2015 Style: From The Runway to Your Closet

High fashion may seem like its vastly separated from everyday fashion due to the elaborate outfits and highly priced pieces, but its actually not that far removed. Most of the fashion elements displayed on the runway can easily be adapted to office, day, and night wear. You don’t have to cough up thousands of dollars for a dress to feel trendy; many affordable designers have apparel right now that reflects the same ideas as Louis Vuitton and Versace. With the right colors and accessories, you’ll soon be a pro at putting together the most stylish and modern outfits of the year.

Gingham for the Win

One of the biggest trends set to hit the fashion world this spring is gingham. Gingham was mildly popular last year, so you may already have a gingham shirt or dress. This print is classic and versatile, so it can be paired with a number of other articles of clothing and accessories. Let’s start with the traditional gingham button down shirt. While it’s still chilly outside, you can don a royal blue gingham shirt and layer a black, v-neck sweater over it. This ensemble looks great with a crystal statement necklace, skinny jeans, and black pumps. Another fresh look you can try is gingham harem pants. Stick with a neutral color, such as black or gray, then pair them with a colored crop top and pumps (or Converse!).

Modern Spin on Kimonos

Kimono style coats and cardigans began increasing in demand last fall, and they’re still right on trend this season. The wonderful thing about this piece is that it is one of the easiest articles of clothing to style, and it will bring new life to any outfit. When buying a kimono coat, branch out and pick a fun pattern, such as abstract-geometric or colorful florals. If you have a lot of neutral tank tops or tees in your closet, simply layer your kimono over them and add a long, tassel necklace. You have many choices when it comes to bottoms, including leggings, skinny jeans, and palazzo pants. Kimono coats are also the perfect pieces for pattern mixing. Don a pair of polka dot skinny jeans or leggings, a black tank, and a bright floral kimono for a spring-ready look.

Per-Suede Me

Suede isn’t just for booties anymore. This lovely fabric is being transformed into dresses, skirts, jackets, and more. The key to effectively pulling off this interesting fabric is playing with textures. Silk, patent leather, and chunky knits all provide an interesting contrast to suede. Pair a blush silk blouse with a high-waisted, cognac suede skirt, black tights, and wedges for an effortless ensemble. You can also throw a cropped suede jacket over a light, spring dress, and you’ll be both comfortable and stylish. When it comes to accessorizing, its all about the metallics. Metallic cuff bracelets and necklaces look stellar when worn with suede garments.
