4 Most Popular Trends from New York Fashion Week

Fashion Month kicked off with New York Fashion Week a couple weeks ago, and many designers brought some fantastic new trends to the table. Its finally starting to feel like spring outside, so we’re excited to start ditching the coats and gloves. Most of the outfits on the runway look as though they would never be suitable for everyday wear, but there are specific elements in each trend that you can easily incorporate into your wardrobe.

Funky Animal Print

No, we’re not talking about leopard print. More like chameleons, jellyfish, seahorses, and any other exotic animal you can think of. You’ll surely see this style cropping up at your local mall, and you can wear it for a number of occasions. For the office, you will want to keep your outfit somewhat tame, so its best to opt for a unique accessory, such as a purse with a crab detail or a fish scale wallet. If you are going out, a seahorse print tank top or a blouse with a flamingo-shaped and printed neckline are both effortlessly chic.

Military Chic

We all know berets and combat boots originated in the military, but there are many other styles that can be modified from armed forces wear. Military-esque, olive green was huge on the New York runway, seen on everything from dresses to blazers. If you’re looking for an out-of-the-box work outfit, consider a military green blazer (perhaps one with a couple pockets!). Pair it with a white button up, black or khaki (another hot trend) pants, and black pumps.

Cool Khaki

We’re probably all scarred from having to wear those horrible, ill-fitting khakis to the fifth grade science fair, but don’t write this color off just yet. Khaki has made a comeback as the hottest spring neutral, and its very easy to include it in an outfit. Don a khaki-colored dress with a brown leather belt and accessorize with black pumps and a silver statement necklace. A great casual option is a collared, khaki shift dress with breast pockets. Add some suede booties, a wide-brimmed hat, and an animal print purse, and you’ll be ready for anything.

Toned Down Sportswear

Sportswear should go beyond throwing on a football jersey during the superbowl. Sports are one of America’s favorite pastimes, so it makes sense to incorporate those styles into the fashion world. Some of the most popular trends on the runway included modernized polos, stylish tennis shoes, and visible zippers. A trendy office outfit you could put together is a color block, chiffon polo in mocha and black, a black leather pencil skirt, and pearl jewelry. Visible zippers are growing in popularity, so don’t be afraid to buy a cocktail dress that has one.
