Fall's Hottest Hats and Handbags

Accessories may not be the main components of an outfit, but they can make all the difference between a drab and dashing ensemble. Handbags not only carry your daily essentials; they also add some color or function as the finishing touch for your outfit. Hats are excellent for bad hair days, but they’re also great for any day you want to dress up from (literally) head to toe.

Crossbody Bag

Give your arms a break with a crossbody bag. Unlike oversized handbags, these bags are more comfortable to wear on a daily basis and still have enough room for everything you could possibly need. They’re are especially great for casual, day wear, and since they are hands free your fingers can stay warm in your coat pockets while walking in the cold. Try to keep an assortment of neutral and bold colored bags, so you can accent whichever color you choose. Wear a brown, leather handbag over a black and white striped sweater dress and matching coat, then throw on some black leather boots and a royal blue scarf.

Clutch

When you need a delicate bag to match your upscale attire, a clutch should be at the top of your list. They’re large enough to carry your lipstick and keys, but small enough to not weigh you down. Instead of sticking to a neutral color, find a clutch in a bold color or pattern that will still go with a wide variety of outfits. Leopard print is a great pattern when it is used sparingly, so it would make for an ideal clutch. If you are planning on using this clutch, wear a bright red dress, nude heels, and gold jewelry. Solid color clutches look stunning as well. You can pair a bright green clutch with a dark outfit to make it a little more fun.

Wide Brimmed Hats

Wide brimmed hats are swiftly growing in popularity this season, and for good reason. This style of hat can match with almost any outfit, casual or dressy. Neutral hats, such as cream, taupe, gray, and black are the most versatile and will add a subtle touch of class to your accessory collection. Try a hat with a simple outfit that incorporates pieces you already have in your closet. A taupe wide brimmed hat would look terrific with a soft taupe sweater, black skinny jeans and plum booties. Wide brimmed hats are dramatic, and they pair perfectly with structural coats. Try a swing coat with a wide brimmed hat the next time you step out for errands. Wearing your hair down or in a side braid looks best for this kind of hat. You can keep it simple by wrapping your hair around a wand for soft curls, then let your hat do the rest!

Knitted Hats

Knitted hats come in many different styles, from berets to beanies. You should definitely have a few of these on hand for crisp, windy days to keep your ears warm. Your outfit options are nearly unlimited if you wear a knitted hat. All kinds of sweaters and cardigans perfectly complement this accessory. Layer a blush pink cardigan over a cream tank top and black skinny jeans, then accessorize with cream oxfords, a black knit beanie, and a pearl necklace.

You can also combine a floral print skater skirt, chunky black sweater, tights, suede booties, and a cream knitted beret for a classy look. For a beanie, let your hair fall around your shoulders, and for a beret, either wear it down or style it into a messy bun at the nape of your neck.
