How to Make Your Own Beauty Products from Scratch

When you want to look your best, there are plenty of beauty products to choose from. However, store bought cosmetics are expensive, and leave you wondering what exactly you’re putting on your skin. As more people become health-conscious, many are foregoing beauty products found in stores and instead making their own beauty products at home.

Luckily many of the ingredients needed to make beauty products can be found in your neighborhood grocery store. You can find some of these items, such as bananas and avocados, by taking a stroll through the produce section. Other items commonly used are mayonnaise, eggs, milk, oatmeal, olive oil, brown sugar, and yogurt.

Solve Dryness with Olive Oil

Moisturize your hair or skin, by simply taking a small amount of olive oil and rubbing it directly into your hair or skin. It's also a great way to reduce the appearance of dandruff, if used regularly. The parts of your body that often have dry patches of skin, such as feet and knees, can be softened by regularly applying olive oil to them.

Exfoliate with Olive Oil and Brown Sugar

If you want a good exfoliate, combine olive oil and brown sugar into a thick paste. Exfoliating with this mixture will give your skin a refreshing glow and rid your skin of harmful toxins.

Moisturize with Banana or Avocado

If you want to clear up dry skin on your face or other spots on your body, mash up a banana and mix in some olive oil. You can then rub it over the dry area and then wash it off after its been absorbed.

Avocados can also be used for this purpose. Just mash up an avocado, mix it with some olive oil, rub it on your skin, and let it sit long enough to soak in before washing it off.

Treat Razor Burn with Honey

Honey is another natural ingredient that can be used for a variety of beauty issues. To treat razor burn, put 2 drops of honey onto wet fingertips and rub it into the affected area. Rather than feeling sticky, it will actually make your skin feel moisturized and give it a healthy glow.

Homemade Hairspray

To make chemical free hairspray, mix one teaspoon of plain gelatin to one cup of boiling water, stirring until the gelatin dissolves. Put the solution into a spray bottle and immerse the bottle in hot water prior to use. Now you've got an all-natural hairspray that won't harm your hair or the environment.

By taking the time to use a few common and inexpensive natural ingredients, you can save money on the beauty products you want and spare yourself the chemical exposure of store bought products.
