Look Flawless: How to Do Your Makeup for Wedding Photos

Your wedding photos are lasting memento from your wedding day so you want to make sure you look your best in them. When you’re getting ready for the big day you need to keep these photos in mind. Not every makeup look translates as well to the camera as it does to real life. Follow these tips for bridal makeup that will look good the day of and every day after that you look back on your wedding photos.

When planning to do your own wedding makeup, keep a few essential rules in mind. First, focus on your best feature and remain you. In other words, do not look for a dramatic change right before your big day or you will look back on your wedding photos wondering who that woman in the white dress is. Second, remember that you will be wearing white, and thus need to compensate for this lack of color by bringing some to your face. Otherwise the photos will look washed out and dull.

Prep

With these two thoughts in mind be sure to prep your skin the week before the wedding by moisturizing and toning. Don’t neglect your lips either, and be sure to slather on the lip balm. All this prep work will pay dividends when the time comes to apply your makeup.

Foundation

Apply your liquid foundation with fingers in a circular motion, and do not forget your neck. You want a clean, connected look for your pictures. Apply concealer with a brush where needed, especially under the eyes, around the nose, and on any red spots. Any breakouts should also be handled with foundation and if necessary a matte concealer. Dust a loose powder over your foundation to set the look.

Bronzer and Blush

If you are applying bronzer you need to tread lightly. Apply it to the forehead, the perimeter of face, under the jaw line, and under your cheekbones. This will create a natural bronzed look. You should only apply blush on the apples of cheeks and at least two finger-width distance away from your nose to avoid looking like a clown.

Eyes

Be sure to stick with natural looking eye makeup for your photos and choose a long-lasting eye shadow base. Before applying shadow, put a layer of concealer on your lids to brighten them up. Then pick a waterproof mascara to protect against an smudges or tears.

Lips

Opt for a lip color that is one to two shades darker than your normal color. This will appear better in your wedding photos. Keep in mind that neutral browns and pale pastels tend to look washed out so you should choose something with more color.
