10 Best Dr. Seuss Books

Question: if you didn’t read Dr. Seuss as a child then did you even have a childhood?

Dr. Seuss wrote over 60 children’s books and has sold over 222 million copies. Basically, he’s everyone’s favorite and for good reason. While it’s not easy to choose the best Seuss books, I took on the challenge. Here are my (and my coworker’s) votes for the ten best Dr. Seuss books ever.

  1. How the Grinch Stole Christmas
It might seem weird that a child would love this book so much, but I wanted to read the book and watch the movie year round. I just really connect with the grumpy green guy.
  2. Green Eggs and Ham
It rhymes and talks about food. There’s a car chase. I mean, Dr. Seuss really knocked this one out of the park.
  3. One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish
My coworker adores this one because of the colors. I don’t entirely get it.
  4. Hop on Pop
7-year-old me was a sucker for some sick rhymes. Plus I totally understood those kids. I just wanted my dad to play with me too.
  5. Thidwick the Big-Hearted Moose
Thidwick tried to do something nice and then everyone took advantage of his kindness. It's a cautionary tale we all should take to heart.
  6. On Beyond Zebra
This is where it all started. It's basically an ecyclopedia for Seussian animals.
  7. Dr. Seuss's ABC: An Amazing Alphabet Book
Each letter has an alliterative sentence. Plus half the words are made up so when you read it to your nieces you look like a fool.
  8. McElligot's Pool
A kid gets bullied and Seuss was rewarded by it being named a Caldecott honor book.
  9. If I Ran the Zoo
This book brought us the word "nerd" and for that I am forever thankful. Nerd-power!
  10. I Am NOT Going to Get Up Today!
It's like Seuss read my mind with this book. You can find me reading it from the comfort of my bed.

In addition to these books, there’s a NEW Dr. Seuss book released July 28th, 2015 called What Pet Should I Get?. Head out to your closest book store to snag your copy before they're all gone!
