30 Most Controversial Moments from Classic TV

Everyone loves TV that initiates conversation and controversy. In the history of television, however, it took some trial and error to figure out what was and what was not acceptable to air. You probably won't see any of these episodes in reruns on syndication. Here are the 15 most controversial moments from classic TV!

1 of 30 "The Bicycle Man"--Diff'rent Strokes (1983)

Anyone that’s seen Diff’rent Strokes would easily call it a wholesome family show, but “The Bicycle Man,” wasn’t as family-friendly as viewers wanted. In this episode, Arnold and Dudley are lured into the back of a bicycle shop where the owner, Mr. Horton, is revealed to be a pedophile. He shows the children pornographic magazines, x-rated cartoons, and asks the children to take off their clothing during photo shoots.

What might be most troubling is that Dudley never really seems to recognize what kind of situation he's in.  During the entire runup to the reveal, jokes are still being made—which just seems unsettling. While the episode may have been trying to make a point that it might be the last person you expect to do bad things, it went about it in all the wrong ways.
