Embrace Your Inner Sloth With This Drinking Game

I’ve recently become strangely obsessed with sloths. I know it may seem incredibly random, and I agree. It came out of left field. I wasn’t prepared for it. They do say you’ll find love when you least expect it. However, looking back I guess you can say it was a long time coming.

The first sign was several months ago when my roommate, Beth, came home from a day of student teaching and wanted to show me a funny youtube video she had used in her kindergarten classroom. She was teaching her students about animals all over the world, and she found a video of baby sloths. Beth opened Youtube, and for one minute and 38 seconds I laughed at how adorable and weird these little babies were. Okay, we watched it twice. I thought that was the end of it, but it was only the tip of the iceberg.

Fast forward four months, and that same roommate and I are at home on a Friday, mentally preparing ourselves to get ready for a night out with our friends. My amazingly random roomie was like “Let’s watch this show I found on Youtube. It’s called Meet the Sloths." I’m not one to turn down a good Youtube video so we turned it on.

My. Life. Changed.

Meet the Sloths is not only educational (I’ve learned so much about sloths!), but it’s also entertaining. Is it a little odd? Yes. Is it mind-boggling that sloths can have such drama-filled lives? Yes. Is it over-the-top hilarious that there’s a princess sloth? Yes. But is it also everything I’ve been looking for in a TV show? Absolutely. I’ve watched every episode. I’m emotionally attached to the sloth stars. It’s normal for me to feel excitement, anxiety, depression, and wonder all within one episode. I’ve even tried to buy the DVD (Amazon won’t ship to the U.S.). And then I had this brilliant idea. I wanted to share my love of Meet the Sloths with everyone I know, and there’s no better way to do that than create a drinking game for my favorite show.

Voila! You’re welcome.

Also, #SlothSunday is a thing I’m starting. Feel free to join me on Sunday evenings with a glass of cheap wine. Don’t forget to tweet me with it!

Take a sip:

  • When a momma sloth doesn’t reject her baby.
  • Every time a sloth makes an adorable noise.
  • Every time the narrator makes things super dramatic.
  • For every wonderfully-acted flashback that clearly wasn’t filmed spur-of-the-moment.
  • Every time you feel ridiculous for being emotionally invested in a sloth soap opera.

Take a drink:

  • When you hear “mona lisa smiles” in the intro.
  • If there’s a forbidden romance or a sloth booty call.
  • When a sloth is rescued in the nick of time.
  • When they talk about sloth poop.
  • If Princess Buttercup is being a demanding royal.
  • When the caretakers and scientist discover something new about sloths.

Take a shot:

  • When a sloth dies. Two shots if it’s a baby sloth.
  • When you think of Jesse.
