Lebron James – Freddy Krueger

Lebron James – Freddy Krueger

Lebron James is one of the most prolific players in the NBA, and many consider him to be one of the greatest players of all time. The Los Angeles Lakers basketball player is the only player to have won NBA championships with three different franchises as an NBA Finals MVP. He has competed in 10 NBA finals and won eight of them consecutively.

For 2021, Lebron James dressed up as Freddy Kreuger for Halloween with this frightening Nightmare on Elm Street costume. Of course, Lebron James is consistently out there every day scaring his opponents with his mere presence on the court. The player holds the record for all-time playoff points.

Anthony Davis – Candyman

Anthony Davis – Candyman

Anthony Davis is another LA Lakers player who plays the power forward and center positions. He is an eight-time NBA All-Star, named to four All-NBA First Teams and four All-Defensive Teams. In 2020, he won an NBA championship and for 2021, was named one of the 75 Greatest Players in NBA History.

Anthony Davis sported this Candyman costume for 2021. The Candyman series of films was adapted from the 1985 short story about the ghost of an African-American man who was murdered for having an interracial affair in the 19th century. He is an urban legend that manifests when his name is spoken in front of a mirror. And then the killing starts.

Aaron Rogers - John Wick

Aaron Rogers - John Wick

Aaron Rogers is a renowned quarterback for the Green Bay Packers, one of the most popular American football teams in the NFL. He was a Super Bowl champion and MVP at the Super Bowl XLV. Additionally, he is a three-time NFL Most Valuable Player. While he’s had a somewhat rough year on the field, that hasn’t stopped him from having a good time.

Aaron Rogers celebrated Halloween this year by dressing up as everyone’s favorite assassin: John Wick. His John Wick costume caught everyone’s attention when he posted it on social media. The John Wick action film series has earned millions of dollars worldwide and have made Keanu Reeves a star again.

Cleveland Browns – Jabbawockeez

Cleveland Browns – Jabbawockeez

The Cleveland Browns are a professional American football team established back in 1944. They play in FirstEnergy Stadium in Cleveland, Ohio. They are unique among the NFL in that they are one of the few teams that sports no logos on their helmet. But that doesn’t mean they don’t have team spirit.

The Cleveland Browns did a group costume for 2021 as the Jabbawockeez, a hip-hop dance crew that rose to prominence as the winner of the first season of America's Best Dance Crew back in 2008. Dances are choreographed entirely as a team unit and there is no group leader.

Odell Beckam Jr. – Michael Jackson (Thriller)

Odell Beckam Jr. – Michael Jackson (Thriller)

Odell Beckam Jr. is an American football wide receiver who plays for the Cleveland Browns. Odell Beckam Jr. is easily one of the most scrutinized on the team. Training on his own, rather than with the rest of his team, there’s a media image of him as not a team player. He is also quite outspoken.

Fittingly, Odell Beckam Jr. did not dress alongside his team as Jabbawockeez. Instead, he dressed as another highly scrutinized celebrity – Michael Jackson. Here his costume depicts Michael Jackson in the classic music video for the song Thriller. This costume is easily recognizable and one of the best on this list.

Myles Garrett – Grim Reaper

Myles Garrett – Grim Reaper

Myles Garrett is an American Football defensive end for the Cleveland Browns. Previously having played college football in Texas, he was selected by the Browns in 2017. He became a first-team All-Pro in 2020. Since then, he has become a somewhat controversial player, having gotten into a brawl with a Pittsburgh Steelers player and having been suspended.

Miles Garrett may have dressed up like Death for Halloween in 2021, but his career is certainly not dead. In a game against the Chicago Bears, he broke a franchise record for having the most sacks in a single game. In a game where the Browns won 26-6, Garrett earned the title AFC Defensive Player of the Week.

Mike Davis – Squid Games Guard

Mike Davis – Squid Games Guard

Mike Davis is a running back for the Atlanta Falcons. But before running – or rather flying – with the Falcons, Mike Davis started off with the San Francisco 49ers in 2015. Upon signing with the Atlanta Falcons, Davis struck a $5.5 million deal, which makes his costume here a bit ironic.

The highly popular Netflix sensation Squid Games was a popular costume for 2021, but Mike Davis going as a Squid Games Guard is slightly unsettling. Here Mike Davis dresses up as middle management for the Squid Games, keeping the lowest ranking players out of the circle. And as a rich celebrity, this seems a bit of a slight to the rest of us.

Paul Pogba – Skeleton

Paul Pogba – Skeleton

Paul Pogda is a French soccer player who plays for the Premier League club Manchester United and the France national team. His primary position on the field is as the central midfielder. His most recent win occurred when providing four assists in a 5-1 victory over Leeds United.

Paul Pogda has chosen to go with the classic skeleton costume or at least a skeleton face. Or perhaps he’s a biker – I’m not sure, but whatever it is it looks pretty cool. Let’s just say he’s a spooky guy and leave it at that and he did a really good job with his makeup – but let’s get real: someone did that for him.

Trevor Ariza - Joker

Trevor Ariza - Joker

Trevor Ariza is an American basketball player for the Lakers who won a championship in his very first stint with the Lakers in 2009. He previously played for several other teams including the Washington Wizards, Phoenix Suns, Sacramento Kings, Houston Rockets, New Orleans Hornets, Miami Heat and Portland Trailblazers – among others.

Trevor Ariza didn’t pick the most original costume for 2021. Instead, he went as the Joker. But as a player who seems to switch teams so very often, it’s fitting that he chose someone with no real allegiance to any team but himself. But in the world of sports, it just be like that sometimes.

Stephen Curry – Mr. and Mrs. Smith

Stephen Curry – Mr. and Mrs. Smith

Stephen Curry is a professional basketball player for the Golden State Warriors. He plays the point guard position and is considered one of the greatest of all time in that position as well as being one of the greatest shooters of all time. With that said, he and his wife dressed up as some legendary actors for Halloween.

Stephen Curry and his wife are Mr. and Mrs. Smith from the action-comedy film starring Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. The film received mix reviews at the time and is somewhat of a cult classic but it will always be remembered as the film that broke up Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston, since Pitt allegedly fell in love with Jolie during the making of the film.

Marcedes Lewis – Bane

Marcedes Lewis – Bane

Marcedes Lewis is an American football tight end for the Green Bay Packers. He originally played for the UCLA Bruins in college before joining the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2006. In March 2021, he signed an $8 million contract for two years, showing how clearly valuable of a player he really is.

Ironically, he dressed up as Bane from the Batman film The Dark Knight Rises. And if you remember in that film, Bane blows up an entire football stadium in the film, killing numerous football players in the explosion. With that said, the choice seems a bit odd, because clearly Bane did not care about football or anyone finishing that game.

Patrick Mahomes – Jasper (101 Dalmations)

Patrick Mahomes – Jasper (101 Dalmations)

Patrick Mahomes plays for the Kansas City Chiefs in the NFL. He started off as a clear winner in college, with a total of 53 touchdowns for Texas Tech University. Unlike many of the players on this list, Patrick Mahomes has never been traded. He’s remained loyal to the Chiefs.

But Patrick Mahomes decided to switch it up and dress up as someone with no integrity – Jasper from 101 Dalmatians. Here he is with Cruella de Vil, a woman with a complete disregard for the lives of puppies and Jasper who is helping her catch them. The good news is that Jasper was never as good as poacher as Mahomes is a football player.

Elena Delle Donne – Genie (aladdin)

Elena Delle Donne – Genie (aladdin)

Elena Delle Donne is an American basketball player for the Washington Mystics in the WNBA. During her career, she has won two WNBA Most Valuable Player Awards and has been selected for six All-Star teams. As one of the most prominent women in the NBA, everyone is dying to know what she went as for Halloween.

And of course, she went as Genie from Aladdin, because why not. Because, who doesn’t like Genie from Aladdin? Her talent on the field is as equally supernatural and she makes millions of fans dreams come true. She’s a role model for women, although her height seems to be a huge advantage not everyone has.

Russell Westbrook – Chucky

Additionally, he has set a record for the most triple-doubles in a season - 42. He previously was part of the Houston Rockets and the Washington Wizards before getting traded to the Lakers.

Westbrook went as Chucky for 2021. Chucky is, of course, the killer doll from the 1988 classic horror film Chucky. The film is about a doll that becomes possessed by the soul of a serial killer. It stars Brad Dourif as Chucky and also stars Susan Sarandon. When you think of creepy dolls, Chucky is one of the first that comes to mind.

Rajon Rondo - Wolverine

Rajon Rondo - Wolverine

Rajon Rondo was a four-time All-Star player with the Boston Celtics. An ACL tear had completely changed his life and had a major impact on his career.  But he had a major comeback, going on to play for the Lakers, then the Atlanta Hawks and the Clippers. As of August 2021, he has returned to the Lakers once more.

Rajon Rondo, fittingly choice Wolverine as his costume – a superhero that gets injured time and time again but heals quickly, gets back up and lives to fight another day. Wolverine is one of the most popular X-Men characters in the Marvel universe and Rondo is quite becoming a legend himself.
