The Worst Celebrity Hygiene Habits

Jessica Simpson

Jessica Simpson

Everyone should be brushing their teeth at least twice a day, or ideally after each meal. Many of us have learned this since we were kids. Evidently, not all of us do it and Jessica Simpson is one example. The singer and actress has noted her hygiene habits, or rather lack of, in the past.

Notably, she’s not in the habit of brushing her teeth, explaining on The Ellen DeGeneres Show that she often doesn’t brush her regularly but rather three times per week! Her oral care routine is as such: she flosses, rinses with Listerine, and rubs her teeth with her shirt.

Brad Pitt

Brad Pitt

Brad Pitt is one A-list celebrity we just couldn’t keep off the list. In Hollywood, the handsome actor is well-known for his foul odor, and it’s certainly a stench he’s complicit in. The busy actor claims that he doesn’t have time to shower, as he told Inglourious Basterds co-star Eli Roth.

Allegedly the actor told Mr. Roth, “I got six kids. All you’ve got to do is just take [baby wipes], a couple quick wipes under the pits. I’m getting [peed] on all day. I don’t have time to take a shower.”

Now we understand with having six kids, he has his hands full, but to forgo bathing altogether??? There’s no way he doesn’t have time for a 5- or 10-minute shower.

Post Malone

Post Malone

Post Malone may seem like a nice guy, but we wouldn’t recommend approaching him unless you don’t mind smelling like Post-BO. His rough appearance is no show; the singer’s hygiene is just as bad as it looks. He doesn’t use deodorant, preferring his “natural” scent.

Allegedly, a tour manager quit over Post Malone’s funk. The manager explained in an interview with Huzlers that Post Malone smelled like a mix of “cat p***, expired milk, and moldy cheese that has been sitting out in the heat." Sounds like Post Malone prefers his pre-shower smell.

Eva Mendez

Eva Mendez

Eva Mendez has a nasty habit—as many anxious people do—and that’s nail-biting. Eva Mendez apparently suffers from excessive nail biting, which is really kind of gross, because you can never really know what’s on your hands before putting them in your mouth.

So, you’ll never see Eva Mendez with long clean nails, however, you probably won’t see her biting her nails. She told Maxim, “I honestly do bite my toenails. I used to be addicted. I’d sit in front of the TV and chew away. I don’t do it in front of people because it’s private.”

Kelly Clarkson

Kelly Clarkson

Kelly Clarkson seems to always be wearing something new, looking sharp in some fine clothes. She seems to care enough about her appearance and hygiene from the look of her, but it seems not entirely, as the singer often doesn’t wear underwear.

Having reportedly gone commando during the entirety of her stint on American Idol. But in addition to sanitary concerns, Clarkson was also prone to a wardrobe malfunction, recalling one incident: “One time in my quick change they forgot to do something, they zipped me but didn’t do well. I jumped around a lot on that tour and so my dress almost came completely off. And I was commando. So that would have gone real European beach real quick. I caught it!”

Mila Kunis

Mila Kunis

Mila Kunis may be beautiful, but that doesn’t really excuse the hygiene habits that both her and her husband, Ashton Kutcher share. Reportedly the actress does not shower regularly and uses soap on only certain parts of her body. According to the actress on the podcast Armchair Expert:

I wash my armpits and my crotch daily, and nothing else ever. I got a bar of Lever 2000 that delivers every time. … I do have a tendency to throw some water on my face after a workout to get all the salts out.

Jake Gyllenhaal

Jake Gyllenhaal

Jake Gyllenhaal is yet another A-list star with poor hygiene. Whether you think he’s a good actor or a bad actor may be debatable, but one thing you can’t debate is his hygiene or lack of. His cleanliness is quite questionable, telling Vanity Fair, “More and more I find bathing to be less necessary, at times.”

He adds, “I do also think that there’s a whole world of not bathing that is also really helpful for skin maintenance, and we naturally clean ourselves.” Now we aren’t really sure what he means, but for the love of all that is good in the world, don’t tell my kid that.

Matthew McConaughey

Matthew McConaughey

Matthew McConaughey is yet another celebrity that thinks he’s above underarm deodorant. Despite suffering from underarm sweat like the rest of us, he won’t use deodorant or antiperspirants of any kind. According to BroBible Kate Hudson once asked Matthew McConaughey to rub a salt rock on his body:

She always brings a salt rock, which is some natural deodorant, and says, “Would you please put this on?” I just never wore it. No cologne, no deodorant. The women in my life, including my mother, have all said, “Hey, your natural smell smells, one, like a man, and, two, smells like you.”

Leonardo DiCaprio

Leonardo DiCaprio

Leonardo DiCaprio has two bad habits: he rarely showers, and he doesn’t wear deodorant. Ew! As if a man dating women half his age wasn’t gross enough, he apparently believes his not showering regularly is working wonders for the environment. It’s just too bad it's not doing anything for human decency.

Allegedly he believes that showering less has a great impact on the environment since it uses less water and he skips deodorant due to the chemical production processes required to make it.

Romeo + Juliet co-star Miriam Margolyes said of him on a UK daytime show This Morning, "He was a bit smelly because it was very hot in Mexico and young boys don't make themselves fragrant, they don't wash all the bits.”

Alicia Silverstone

Alicia Silverstone

Alicia Silverstone’s hygiene habits are just downright looney. The actress reportedly gives off a foul odor that fellow yogis can attest to. She refuses to wear deodorant and bathes without soap allegedly, preferring not to strip her body of its natural oils. However, she has begun preaching the use of natural deodorants in recent years – but maybe they aren’t working.

The strangest and most disgusting hygiene habit came from a video she herself shared with fans. In the video, she showed herself feeding her son mouth to mouth, pre-chewing his food for him and dropping it into his mouth as if he were a baby bird. It was easily one of the most disgusting things I’ve ever seen and we think you’d agree too.

Robert Pattinson

Robert Pattinson

Robert Pattinson might be an immortal sparkly vampire and the Batman, but apparently is not the best role model when it comes to hygiene. The actor allegedly does not shower regularly, according to a crew member on Twilight: New Moon, telling E! News “He stinks. I mean, it's awful. He never showers, and it drives people on the set crazy.

In an interview with Extra, Robert Pattinson admitted to not washing his hair. When asked if there was any truth to a claim that he once hadn’t washed his hair for six weeks, the actor said, “Probably. I don't know. I don't really see the point in washing your hair.”

Ashton Kutcher

Ashton Kutcher

Aston Kutcher and Mila Kunis’s poor hygiene habits are evidently something they are passing on to their kids, teaching them about poor hygiene at a young age. Yikes! According to the actor himself, he doesn’t give the kids a bath until they are visibly dirty.

According to Kutcher on Dax Shepard’s podcast Armchair Experts, "Now, here's the thing: If you can see the dirt on them, clean them. Otherwise, there's no point." And even Kutcher himself, never gets a thorough cleansing, saying "I wash my armpits and my crotch daily, and nothing else ever."

Kristen Bell

Kristen Bell

Like her husband, Kristen Bell doesn’t shower daily and doesn’t even bathe the children regularly either. According to the actress who appeared on The View, "I'm a big fan of waiting for the stink," she said on the morning program, commenting on Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis’s bathing habits.

She added, “Once you catch a whiff, that's biology's way of letting you know you need to clean it up. There's a red flag. Honestly, it's just bacteria, and once you get bacteria you gotta be like, 'Get in the tub or the shower'…So I don't hate what Kunis and Kutcher are doing. I wait for the stink."

Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift may bathe, but she doesn’t bathe everywhere. Apparently, she only bathes the top half, believing that shaving cream is a suitable substitute for soap, as she told Ellen DeGeneres on her daytime talk show. I guess she thinks she’s shaving the dirt off along with all the hair.

And then the water gets the rest of it. On top of that, Ellen seemed to agree with her replying, “Yeah. It is. I think that’s the reason that most women wash their legs. Because we have to because we shave our legs.” But let it be known: shaving cream is NOT soap.

Zac Efron

Zac Efron

The hunky High School Musical star Zac Efron may look like he takes care of himself, but it turns out he’s not as clean as he looks. It turns out that even after the hours upon hours he spends at the gym to stay in shape and everything else he does to stay active, he doesn’t always shower afterward.

Zac Efron allegedly has a tendency not to shower for weeks after a workout and uses just wet wipes after physical activity in order to save time. According to the inside source on the set of High School Musical 3, “It’s so gross, because Zac loves to work out and plays basketball all the time – and then goes days without showering. When he gets lazy, he likes to clean himself with baby wipes.”

Johnny Depp

Johnny Depp

While Johnny Depp hasn’t had the best press in recent years, he’s always been associated with he’s dreamy good looks and rebel heart, but one thing you’d never imagine when looking at the good-looking actor is that he doesn’t smell good – and yet he doesn’t.

While he’s cleared his name when it came to accusations of abuse, there’s still one thing he needs to answer for: his hygiene. According to past partners, the actor allegedly goes days without showering or washing his hair. His hair must be really greasy!

Shia LaBouf

Shia LaBouf

While we can speak for his usual hygiene habits, Shia LeBouf went full method for the 2014 film Fury by practicing some very poor hygiene during filming. In order to mimic the suffering of the WII battlefield, LaBouf elected not to shower for weeks at a time to get that grizzled unclean soldier look.

Allegedly Shia LaBouf smelled so terrible, he had to be housed away from everyone else because they couldn’t handle the stench. Apparently, Shia was not aware that audiences cannot smell him through camera lens, because as far as method acting goes, this seems a bit overkill.

Julia Roberts

Julia Roberts

If you always thought Julia Roberts would smell like roses and sunshine, you’ll be sad to learn that couldn’t be further from the truth. Like Leonardo DiCaprio, she doesn’t seem to believe in showering due to its environmental impact.

To address concerns about the environment, she uses as little water as possible, and so she forgoes showers for as long as possible. And to make matters worse, she also doesn’t use deodorant, so there’s little protection for those around her from her body odor.

Dax Shepard

Dax Shepard

If you’ve read this far, you won’t be surprised to learn that Dax Shepard is also on our list. While his wife Kristen Bell washes more often to clean the makeup off her face, Dax Shepard has the same bathing habits that his kids have, meaning he doesn’t shower often.

In fact, they all bathe at the same time, in order to conserve water. Using the same water to bathe is at least slightly less gross than not bathing at all, so I guess we can’t complain too much? Hopefully, he doesn’t wait every time to bathe with the kids though…

Kim Kardashian

Kim Kardashian

Kim Kardashian does bathe regularly, but she definitely has some questionable hygiene habits that pertain to everything above her shoulders. For one, she only washes her hair every five days, according to her Into the Gloss blog entry she wrote.

She had also confessed to not washing her face at one point, going to bed in full makeup, which is really bad for your skin! Luckily, that’s changed. She says, “Now I really wash it off—first with a wipe, and then I use the By Terry Pureté de Rose Refreshing Cleansing Gel because it smells like rose.”

Cameron Diaz

Cameron Diaz

Cameron Diaz is another member of the unofficial Anti-Deodorant Club. She told E! in 2014 "I don't believe in antiperspirant…It's really bad for you. I haven't used it for almost 20 years. You're stinky because you use antiperspirant. It keeps all the stink in."

That certainly doesn’t make a whole lot of sense, but you do you, Cameron Diaz, just stay at least a few feet away from us so we don’t have to smell your pits. That would be great, thanks. What is with these celebrities and their anti-deodorant advocation?

Bradley Cooper

Bradley Cooper

Bradley Cooper not only forgoes the deodorant stick but he also stays away from cologne. Despite the fact that he always seems to look clean and sharp, apparently he doesn’t care much about smelling too nice. Maybe it's not manly enough? Who can say except the man himself?

The good news is that he does shower often, as he told Esquire. “I don’t use deodorant really anymore,” he told the publication, “I do take a lot of showers, so maybe that helps.” The actor claims to shower up to three times per day, so that does help, but still, there’s nothing keeping the odor away between showers.

Kesha

Kesha

Kesha’s hygiene looks to be as bad as it sounds in her song TiK ToK. The singer actually has brushed her teeth with a bottle of Jack Daniels but it gets even worse from there. Her full-body hygiene isn’t so great, either. And no, it’s not because she takes a champagne bath.

Allegedly, she smells quite bad. She’s even admitted to the fact, saying "One time, someone told me I smelled like a shrimp on a diaper.” She then joked about starting a fragrance line that smelled “a little like a shrimp on a Fabergé diaper.” Yeah, we’ll have to pass on that one.

Jennifer Aniston

Jennifer Aniston

Sure, we all love coffee and the power of caffeine to keep us going during the day, but with great power comes great responsibility. So, if you are going to be fueling up on coffee throughout the day, you should be brushing your teeth afterward, at least.

It is said that Jennifer Aniston has a horrible case of coffee breath, even when she’s on the set, which can make kissing scenes with costars exceedingly unpleasant. Drinking a lot of coffee in and of itself is not so great for your oral health, so please Ms. Aniston, do yourself and everyone a favor by drinking less of it.

Marilyn Monroe

Marilyn Monroe

According to Clark Gable’s autobiography, Marilyn Monroe had quite a few unhygienic habits – at least during the time he knew her, which, granted, was towards the end of her life. In addition to skipping showers and going without underwear, she kept an unclean bedroom.

Marilyn Monroe had a tendency to eat in bed often, which plenty of people do from time to time, but the actress would shove her dirty food plates right under the bed. Did she want ants? Because that’s how you get ants.

Anderson Cooper

Anderson Cooper

Anderson Cooper of CNN always looks his best on the air, and you’d think he’d be pretty hygienic off the air, but that’s not the case. While there’s a debate about just how often you should wash your jeans, washing them only a few times per year seems not enough by any standard.

But that’s exactly what Anderson Cooper does. He wears the same jeans every day and washes them only twice every six months, he told The Today Show. Adding, "The times I've done it, I've worn them and walked into my shower with them and put some soap on them and then air-dried them. Isn't that how you're supposed to do it?"

Russell Crowe

Russell Crowe

Russell Crowe may be one of the most talented actors of his generation but that doesn’t excuse his poor hygiene. The guy is obviously not cleaning himself well, because according to inside sources, he always seems to smell bad and has bad breathe as well.

The actor is said to sweat a lot, which may not be all his fault biologically speaking, but perhaps he could be doing a little bit more to reduce the smell. Like deodorant, cologne, body spray or just about anything. However, Russell Crowe denies these claims, calling it horses***.

Michael Loccisano/Getty Images Entertainment/Getty Images

Uma Thurman

Uma Thurman

The Pulp Fiction actress Uma Thurman may have turned heads in Hollywood during her career of over 30 years, but at times in the opposite direction as she can often be seen wearing unsightly dirty clothes covered in stains, which also turned out to be a nightmare for her stylist.

A former stylist told Kiss FM:

I worked with her on a shoot for a major fashion house. She'd often show up wearing clothes covered in crusty smelly food. I pulled a piece of shrimp off her back that I swear was two weeks old.

Courtney Cox

Courtney Cox

Jennifer Aniston’s Friends costar Courtney Cox has hygiene problems of her own. Unlike her cleanliness-obsessed character, Monica, the cares of hygiene don’t translate off-screen, as Courtney Cox, the actress, is not fond of using deodorant.

Ex David Arquette once said of her, “Courtney may be pretty, but if she’s not on top of it, she smells like a truck driver and I like it.” All we can say is that the Friends set must have been a really stinky place to be. Hopefully, they had some Febreze on hand.

Harry Connick Jr.

Harry Connick Jr.

As if biting your fingernails wasn’t bad enough in terms of unhygienic habits, Harry Connick Jr. takes that one step further by also biting his toe nails. For one, how is he that flexible? Second, you would think using a toe nail clipper like the rest of us would be a lot easier.

Harry Connick Jr. revealed this nasty habit on The Todd and Erin Morning Show. But I have to say, I’m just as impressed as I am disgusted, if I’m perfectly honest with myself. Nevertheless, someone should really get this man some help.
