Easter is an especially fun holiday for children, filled with candy, egg hunts, egg decorating, and new, dressy attire. Yet, between the church service in the morning and the evening feast, your children may become bored and long for some other Easter-themed activities during the day. Easter crafts are the perfect idea. They’re fun for all ages, easy, and will keep your kiddos occupied so you can enjoy a quiet Easter afternoon with your spouse or friends while eating all the delicious foods you gave up while fasting during the Lenten season.
Easter Crayons
What’s more fun that Easter coloring books? Coloring them in with bunny-shaped crayons of course! Children of all ages can help make and use these with supervision.
You’ll need:
- Crayons
- Silicone bunny mold (available at craft stores or online)
Directions:
- Break the crayons into small pieces. To stick with the Easter theme, pick bright and pastel colors.
- Fill the molds with broken crayons. You can mix and match the colors in each or stick to a single color per mold.
- Bake crayons at 300 degrees Fahrenheit for 10 minutes.
- Let cool completely before using.
Yarn Easter Eggs
This is a new, inventive take on paper mache, and it's suitable for children age 5 and up.
All you need is:
- Yarn or embroidery floss
- Balloons
- Water
- Flour
Directions:
- Mix one cup of flour with two cups of water. Stir well.
- Blow up the balloon to the size you want them and tie the opening (If you want a treat or prize in the middle of the egg, place a piece of candy or small toy in the balloon before blowing it up).
- Dip the yarn or floss in the flour/water mixture and wrap it around the balloon in whatever design or pattern you like. You can do all vertical, all horizontal, or a mixture of both.
- Let dry for several hours, then pop the balloon.
Peeps Houses
Gingerbread houses for Christmas is such old news, so why not give this idea a fresh take with a Peeps House for Easter? This activity is suitable for ages 5 and up.
You’ll need:
- Marshmallow Peeps
- Graham crackers
- Frosting
- Newspaper
- Easter decor (Easter grass, candy eggs, sprinkles, etc)
Directions:
- Lay out newspaper.
- Break 3 graham crackers in half ( 6 halves per house).
- “Glue” the walls (3) of the house to the floor with frosting and let dry. Glue the two halves of the roof together to form a point and let dry.
- After an hour, you can glue the roof to the walls.
- Place some Easter grass inside the house so your Peep and some candy eggs will have a nest to sit in.
- Add some sprinkles and any other decorations you want to the roof with more frosting.
