Fun Family Costume Ideas For Halloween

Halloween is such a fun holiday for children and what better way to celebrate than with a family themed costume? Here are some cool and fun family costume ideas for families to try this Halloween to keep everyone in good spirits.

Bees and Beekeepers

As a funny metaphor for children and parents, why not go as beekeepers and honeybees? This is a great costume for little children and babies as well. Simply buy a black or yellow onesie or leotard and attach some black fairy wings. You can also make the wings out of cardboard and black spray paint. Each parent can wear a white jumpsuit with a beekeeper’s hat.

S’mores

S’mores are the perfect fall treat, so this makes for a perfect family Halloween costume. To make the graham cracker costumes, just take two flat pieces of cardboard and use a black marker to draw the dotted lines down the middle. Use string to hold the cardboard around your neck. The cardboard is already the color of graham crackers, so this couldn’t be easier. For the marshmallow costume, just use two small white pillows and white rope or string. Tie a pillow around the front and backside of each person who is going as a marshmallow. The chocolate can be made the same way with brown pillows, or by painting a flat piece of cardboard brown.

Surfers and Sharks

To create this look, simply dress up an adult as a surfer using board shorts and flip-flops. Make this costume extra funny by wrapping some white gauze colored with red marker around various body parts on the surfer to represent shark bites. A surfboard can be made out of Styrofoam. Cut out a jagged bite mark to use as a prop. Dress each little one as a shark using cardboard for fins and gray and white face paint for teeth.

Wizard of Oz

This costume is great for a larger family. It can be tricky, but it’s very cute and easily recognizable. You can easily make a Dorothy by finding a blue gingham dress or fabric. You can buy ruby red slippers at any big box store. To make a lion costume, it’s as easy as using a brown grocery bag. Turn it upside down and cut out a hole for a face. Using yellow and brown yarn, create a mane on the paper bag and use face paint to create a lion’s nose and whiskers. The tin man can be created using grey face paint and a grey sweat suit. Use a funnel for the top of his head. To create the scarecrow, use brown sweat pants, a green long sleeve shirt belted with a rope, a pointy black felt hat, and glue some straw to the bottom of the sleeves and pant legs. Don't forget to paint your scarecrow's face. You can bring along the family dog to be Toto as well.
