4 Gardening Apps You Need

Whether you’re an avid gardener or a beginner, a smartphone app is always helpful for reminders and helpful tips.  Here are four gardening apps that you should download to help you keep your thumb as green as possible.

  1. Garden Compass Plant/Disease Identifier
This app is free, first and foremost and is rated 5 stars in the iTunes app store.  The cool part about this app is that you can take a photo of any plant in your garden, send it to the app, and the app team of “expert horticultural garden advisors” will help you identify your problem, give you helpful tips on how to cure your problem, and keep you updated on your photo’s process along the way.  Most of the reviews are from very impressed users, give rave reviews that the team is helpful, fast, and thorough, but most importantly, almost always accurate in identifying plant problems.  This is definitely an app to add to your list!
  2. Garden Time Planner
Another free one, this app lists every vegetable you could ever wish you plant and gives you specific instructions on when, where, and how to plant each one.  The app also gives you local weather updates, links to gardening videos, a complete database of plants for a reference guide, and a task list to remind you when to plant, sow, or harvest.  The drawback for this app is that it doesn’t list any fruits or flowers, so you’ll have to stick to veggies and herbs for this one.
  3. Organic Gardening Magazine
This app is free and allows users to view beautiful screenshots of Organic Gardening Magazine on their mobile devices.  This app gives you access to all of the issues of Organic Gardening Magazine, but you do have to have a subscription or succumb to the in-app purchases in order to access all of the available information.  Having a digital version of a gardening reference is helpful and easy for on-the-go reading, and each issue can be bought individually on the app.
  4. Organic Gardening Guidelines
This app costs $2.99, but is worth it.  It’s chock full of information about organic gardening, and is perfect for the beginner or the expert.  It’s a very in-depth app that explains why growing organic is important, how to get started, why it matters, and how to approach your garden when you want to make the switch to organic gardening.  Other information ranges from pest control, plant diseases, compost, soil care, and harvesting times.  3
