5 Fun Thanksgiving Activities For The Whole Family

Thanksgiving is a time filled with love, laughter, food, and family. When everyone comes to town, you may be just a little overwhelmed while searching for activities that will keep everyone happy and entertained. Here are five fun activities you and your family can enjoy during this holiday season.

Watch The Macy’s Day Parade

This is probably something your family is already familiar with. The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is a family favorite. It’s interesting, low-key, and really makes you feel the holiday spirit.  Kids will enjoy watching the oversized balloons and colorful floats, while adults will enjoy the commentary and the feeling of nostalgia from memories of watching the parade as children.

Bake Turkey Cookies

Don’t fear… these cookies are not made of turkey! They do, however, look like a turkey and are very easy to make. You can either make your own sugar cookies from scratch, or you can buy the slice and bake kind.  Once your cookies have baked and cooled, you can create your masterpiece. Use icing as glue and stick candy corn to create a fantail around the top arc of the cookie.  With black icing, create the turkey’s eyes, and use orange icing for the beak and feet. The whole family can join in on the decorating and the eating.

Go On A Nature Walk

After you’ve eaten your weight in turkey and green bean casserole, head outdoors for a walk in the beautiful autumn foliage. If you’re taking little ones along, help them pick out the prettiest fall leaves or pick out shapes in the clouds. This will help you recuperate from the Thanksgiving feast as well as allow you to spend some quiet time out of the house with your loved ones.

Play Football

If the weather is nice, you can always pass the time waiting for your Thanksgiving lunch or dinner with a game of tag football. Everyone can participate, or at least watch and cheer from the sidelines.  It’s one way to work up an appetite and to have a couple of laughs with your relatives. You can even place a few bets on which team will win. The losers have to clean up after dinner!

Volunteer

One of the best ways to celebrate Thanksgiving is to volunteer. Spending time helping out those in need is one of the best ways to remember why you should be thankful for all you have. There are plenty of local homeless shelters, women’s shelters, and soup kitchens that need volunteers around the holidays, and it’s a great way to help your family give back to your community.
