Autumn is the perfect time of year to begin decorating your home for the holiday season. The first holiday on that list is probably the most fun one to decorate for - Halloween! There are endless ways to customize your house or apartment, and one of the easiest, most effective crafts is a Halloween-themed wreath. Guests will immediately notice this eye-catching adornment and you can make it as scary, funny, or cute as you wish.
Monograms are a popular trend right now, and you can incorporate this idea into a cute, customized wreath. For this wreath, you will need:
- 1 brown straw wreath
- 1 roll each of 2-inch black, orange, and white ribbon (can be patterned)
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
- Wooden letter (usually the first letter of your last name)
- Black and orange acrylic paint
- Paintbrush
- Hook
- Fake white berries (optional)
Follow these steps:
- Wrap the black ribbon around the wreath, leaving about an inch between each wrap so the straw shows through. Glue the ends of the ribbon to the wreath.
- Construct five bows in each color of ribbon and secure them with hot glue.
- Arrange the bows in a pattern on the right side of the wreath so all of the colors are evenly distributed. You can spread them out randomly or arrange them in order by color. Be sure to overlap some of the bows, otherwise you will probably run out of room. It is alright if some of them do not show very much; they are needed simply to add volume.
- Once you are satisfied with the arrangement, use hot glue to attach each of them to the wreath.
- If you like, you can also glue the white berries throughout the bows to add to the three-dimensional effect.
- Paint your wooden letter orange. Be sure to paint the sides and back of the letter as well, so it will look finished from every angle. Allow the paint to dry for a couple hours or speed up the process by using a blow dryer.
- Paint a pattern on the front of the letter in black. You can do polka-dots, stripes, or something spooky, such as spiders. Allow the paint to dry.
- When your letter is dry, affix it to the left side of the wreath with hot glue.
- Attach a hook to the back of your wreath so it can be displayed on your front door.
