Five Places You Can Enjoy on A Weekend Staycation

If you're planning a staycation, make sure you check out all that your city has to offer. Many tourist attractions and cultural spots go unvisited by a city’s own residents. There is a good chance there are many fun and exciting places you've just yet to see. Here are some great places to look for in your hometown to make your staycation a blast!

  1. Museums and Cultural Sites
These are the places most visited by tourists, but typically least visited by local residents. Research if there are any special events or exhibits taking place. You can also plan a day around your visit. Find the best restaurant near the museum and look for other neat places to explore. If your museum is in an urban area, take a walk after your visit and just wander to see what you find. In our fast paced world, people have forgotten how to slow down and take in their surroundings. A staycation is a perfect time to notice the places around you and try new things.
  2. Amusement Park or Zoo
These are great places to visit with your children, a significant other, or friend. Staycations are all about having fun, and there's no better way than to visit a place that makes you feel like a child again. Be adventurous and try rides that you normally wouldn’t. It’s ok to be silly and let loose a little. It’s a good way to refresh and get out of your comfort zone.
  3. Restaurants
Since you aren’t blowing your budget on expensive hotels, and travel, it won’t hurt to spend a little more on your food. You can check out new or highly-rated restaurants in your area. You can even travel a little bit to a nearby town to try the best restaurant there. This can be another opportunity to take yourself out of your comfort food and try a new cuisine or dish that you wouldn’t normally consider. Staycations are a great time to indulge in desserts as well. You can spice things up by doing a progressive dinner. Choose three great restaurants, do appetizers at one, main courses at the next and finish with dessert at the last restaurant.
  4. Spas
If you are feeling overwhelmed and planning a staycation to get refreshed, then some pampering needs to be on your agenda. Whether it be a one hour massage or full day at the spa there is something for every budget. If you have never gotten a massage before because you felt like it would be weird or awkward, now is the time to try it. Check reviews or ask friends for recommendations of reputable places so you can feel at ease. Most people agree that it’s something they will do again and as often as possible.
  5. Local Nightlife
Check out local newspapers, or websites of local bars and clubs, to see about any upcoming concerts or special events. You might be surprised at all the fun things happening right in your own city.
