How a Straight Talk Plan Works

If you’re considering signing up for a Straight Talk cell phone plan but aren’t sure where to start, this is the place for you. Here are the basics of the Straight Talk plan, the pros and cons, and what you should know before you sign up or change plans.

The Phone/Tablet

First and foremost, you need a phone. You can either buy a new phone from Straight Talk or you can use the phone you already own. If you choose to use your own phone, you may have to purchase a SIM card form Straight Talk, but most devices are compatible with their plan.

The Plan

If you buy a phone from Straight Talk, you are eligible to choose a no-contract Service Plan. They start at $30 a month, or if you want to have unlimited data you can pay $45 a month. They also have an unlimited international plan for $60 a month.

If you use your personal phone, you are eligible to choose a no-contract plan starting at $45 a month. The unlimited international plan’s price is still $60 a month with your personal phone.

Payment

There are four different payment plans. The first option lets you sync your debit or credit card during activation and have the payment auto-deducted from your account and your account will be refilled automatically. The second option is called Straight Talk Reserve, where you can buy a plan and either use it now or later. Your third option is called Refill On Demand, which allows you to pay as you go and refill your plan as you need it. And lastly, you have the option of purchasing a prepaid Straight Talk Service Plan Card at any participating Wal-Mart.

Activation

Once you decide on a plan and a payment option, it’s time to activate your phone. You can activate your phone online or you can call a toll free number and a Straight Talk system will activate for you over the phone. During activation you have the option to change your phone number or transfer and keep your old phone number.

Other Options

Straight Talk also has plans for tablets, home phone services, mobile hot spots, safe driver car connections, and remote alert systems for extra fees. They work solely through Wal-Mart and their website has plenty of self-service options, customer support, and plan explanations. If you’re thinking of using Straight Talk, a visit to their user-friendly website is recommended.
