How to Choose Functional and Attractive Office Furniture

Functionality is clearly the top priority for furniture in your office, but attractiveness should be a close second. Working in a space that is visually appealing will create a relaxed environment and will enable you to be more productive since (as crazy as it sounds) you might actually enjoy being in your office if its well-designed. When picking office furniture, there are many options for you to choose from that are both practical and will look striking for years to come.

Desk

A roomy desk is a must, especially for those who work in visual disciplines. Yet, just because you need a roomy desk doesn’t mean you have to buy an 18th century style, bulky one. Instead, you should try out a modern, L-shaped desk. These wonderful desks give you a huge area to work with because of the two work surfaces and the corner. Depending on the style of your office, you can utilize a minimalist, metal and wood one, or a more traditional cherry oak style.

Chair

If there’s one item in your office that you should not skimp on, its your chair. Sitting in an uncomfortable chair for eight hours a day can wreak havoc on your spine. The investment in a comfortable, ergonomic chair is definitely worth not being in constant pain. Find an attractive chair that provides lumbar support, has an adjustable seat, and has arms. If you want a more modern style, ditch the chair altogether and sit on a funky-colored exercise ball.

Bookshelves

Storage space for your books, notebooks, and supplies is essential. If your only storage option is your desk, you probably won’t ever be able to escape the clutter. Buy a tall, sturdy bookshelf, and if you want to branch out a little, find one that has cube-shaped shelves. Remember to decorate too with some photo frames or even small plants.

Lighting

Overhead office lighting tends to be harsh, so if you work better in dim lighting, invest in a couple of fun lamps. Soft lighting creates a relaxed vibe, so you will probably feel more at ease. Buy two matching lamps and place them on either side of your workspace. You can even add some texture to your office decor by choosing an interesting shade, such as burlap or a checked pattern.

Storage

File cabinets have come a long way from the vomit-colored (and inducing) metal ones. These cabinets are essential for storing papers and reports, but you don’t have to sacrifice your style. Choose a stylish wooden file cabinet with metallic handles or a sleek, black metal one for a modern take. Or, if you want a DIY upgrade, you can always mod-podge lace or patterned paper onto an existing cabinet.
