Our Favorite Fall Camping Activities

Camping in the fall provides unique opportunities. There is so much to do, and the activities you enjoy doing during other seasons take on new life when the leaves start the change.

Hunting

Fall provides campers the opportunity to hunt different game than they might during the summer. Turkey hunting is one of the most popular types of hunting for this time of year. Some state parks allow hunting, but not all of them. If you are planning on staying in a state park to hunt, call ahead and make sure it is allowed and that you have all the necessary permits.

Hiking

An integral part of camping, these scenic walks become so much more beautiful in the fall months. Wildlife tends to be more active during this time, so spotting animals is easier than ever. With the changing leaves and cool air, you and your family are sure to enjoy a nice hike this fall. Just make sure to bring a sweater!

Warming Up by the Fire

To most, a campfire is a necessity for every camping trip. However, making a fire in the cooler air can be so much more rewarding. In the fall, your fire becomes the perfect way to warm up when the short days become cool nights. Warming up next to an open flame is undeniably wonderful, and it doesn't get much better than cooking fall comfort food by a fire.

Events

Most state parks offer various events throughout the year—fall included. Check listings for events or your park’s website for information regarding their event schedule. You won’t regret it!
