The 15 Minute Clean Up Routine

We’ve all done it: procrastinating and putting off cleaning until someone is literally on their way over to your home. But it’s not too late. When you’re crunched on time, here’s what you need to do for a clean home in less than 15 minutes.

Strategize

Before you begin your crazy cleaning spree, take a minute to come up with a plan. If you have a husband or children at home, divide up the work. If your guest is only going to be in a certain room, focus on that area the most. Then get to cleaning.

Declutter

Find an empty basket and go around the house, picking up everything that’s not in its place. This is especially important if you have children and their toys are everywhere. Just toss everything in the basket and stash it somewhere guests won’t see.

Pick Up Clothes

Repeat the decluttering process, but with clothes. Get a laundry basket and throw all the random articles of clothing lying around your house inside. Hide it in the laundry room. No one will ever know the difference.

Clean the Bathroom

Chances are your guest is going to need to use the restroom at some point during the visit, and nothing is worse than a dirty bathroom. There are two key places you need to focus on when you’re short on time: the sink and the toilet bowl. Pour some toilet bowl cleaner into the toilet, and let it sit while you spray the sink with disinfectant or wipe with disinfecting wipes. Then scrub out the toilet bowl, and your guest will think you’re the cleanest person ever. Voilà!

Do the Dishes

Actually washing the dishes may take up too much time, so put what you can into the dishwasher and stack the rest in the sink. The most important thing is to get rid of any smells that might be lingering around your dirty dishes. Light a candle or spray a little air freshener and your guests won’t even notice.

Wipe the Counters

Take a wet cloth or a disinfecting wipe and give the kitchen counters a quick rubdown. The last thing you want your guest to see is a food-encrusted counter.

Make Up the Bed

Even if you do nothing else to clean up your bedroom, make sure your bed is made up. While your guest may never have a reason to go in your bedroom, it’s still a nice finishing touch, just in case.
