10 Ways You Can Use Essential Oils in Your Life

We’re sure you’ve heard of many alternative or home remedies that call for “essential oils” and are aware of some of their health and beauty benefits, but do you know how to actually use them in your daily life? Essential oils are natural and have a multitude of uses, and they can be a great alternative to traditional medicines and beauty products. And the best part is that they smell amazing! Here are ten out of the hundreds of ways you can improve your life the natural way. Also, as a general rule, before you slather anything on your body, test it out on a small area first to make sure you won’t have an adverse reaction to it.

  1. Non-toxic Sunscreen
You’ll need ¾ cup coconut oil,  2 Tbsp zinc oxide, 2 Tbsp shea butter, 1 Tbsp helichrysum oil, and 10 drops lavender essential oil. Add all ingredients except zinc oxide to a jar. Heat a saucepan with 2 inches of water over medium/low heat and place jar in saucepan until ingredients begin to melt. Then add zinc oxide & stir until combined.
  2. Anxiety Reducer
Add a couple drops of lavender essential oil to several diffusers around the home, and your feelings of stress and anxiety should decrease. You can also rub a few drops of lavender oil on your wrists or neck for further benefits.
  3. Cellulite Reducer
Instead of forking over $100 for some fancy cellulite cream that may or may not work, mix together five drops of grapefruit oil with two teaspoons coconut oil and rub the mixture into the dimpled areas.
  4. Acne Face Wash
To help eliminate acne and prevent new pimples from forming, combine 20 drops of tea tree oil, 3 Tbsp raw honey, 1 Tbsp coconut oil, and 1 Tbsp apple cider vinegar, and store in a bottle. Rub the mixture on your face in the mornings and rinse off with water.
  5. Nausea Reliever
There aren’t very many effective over-the-counter nausea relievers (and the ones that work are quite expensive), so you can try breathing in peppermint oil and applying 1-2 drops to your neck & upper chest for immediate relief.
  6. Homemade Fragrance
Are you sick of buying expensive perfumes that don’t last all day and contain all kinds of harsh chemicals? Try dabbing some eucalyptus oil mixed with 1-3 drops of coconut oil on your wrists. You’ll want to start out with very little eucalyptus oil and gradually increase it if you feel that the fragrance is not enough.
  7. Aromatherapy
Thieves oil (a combination of cinnamon, clove, lemon, eucalyptus, and rosemary oils) is a highly versatile oil, and one of the best ways to gain some benefits from it is to use it in an oil diffuser. Inhaling thieves oil helps with immune support, lung function, sinus function, and eliminates odors in the home.
  8. Skin Tightener & Moisturizer
There are several different essential oils that can help heal and rejuvenate your skin, and some of the most popular ones include: lavender, tea tree, and rose oil. Add a few drops to a carrier oil, like coconut, and rub it into your skin like a lotion.
  9. Hair Growth & Strengthener
For thick, voluminous hair, mix rosemary oil with a carrier oil, such as jojoba. You’ll need 6 drops of rosemary oil for every fluid ounce of jojoba. To use, wet your hair, apply the mixture thoroughly, let sit for 20-30 minutes, then rinse with your shampoo & conditioner.
  10. Hangover Symptom Reliever
If greasy food and Gatorade isn’t cutting it for you, start a warm bath, and add 6 drops each of juniper berry, cedarwood, grapefruit, lavender, rosemary, and lemon oil to it.
