1. Fashion Magazines
Flipping through magazines can be a fun way to get fashion or fitness inspiration, but if you find yourself growing envious of the (obviously airbrushed) models, it’s time to cancel that subscription. Looking at those magazines are doing more harm than good. If you still need a fix, try one that promotes a wide variety of healthy bodies like Women’s Health.
2. Ill-Fitting Clothes
You may still be hoarding clothes you wore two years ago in hopes that you’ll one day fit into them again, but it’s probably time to throw them out. All those clothes are going to do is taunt you, and even if you could fit into them, they’re probably out of style by now anyway! If it makes you feel better, go ahead and treat yourself to some new, well-fitting clothes that will work wonders for your self-esteem.
3. Bathroom Scale
It’s good to keep track of your weight to make sure you’re staying in a healthy range, but you really shouldn’t step on the scale more than once every month or two. If you find yourself checking your weight almost every day, it’s time to trash it! Chances are, you’ll end up going to the doctor or the gym often enough to use their scale whenever you actually need it.
4. Your Facebook App
This isn’t technically a household item, but it can damage your body image more than anything else. Browsing through, you’ll see all of your friends' beach photos and even old photos of you that could potentially make you feel bad about yourself now. So, delete the app, and focus on real-life friendships and the future you.
5. Pocket Mirrors
Whenever you’re out, it’s tempting to check your makeup every so often to make sure you didn’t smudge your mascara or get lipstick on your tooth. Unfortunately, it’s easy to become obsessed with judging your face in that little mirror. You look fine, and if you really need to know if your eyeshadow still looks okay, ask a friend!
6. Weight-Loss Pills
Weight loss pills don’t work, and if you have to see them every day in your cabinet, they can subtly start to while away at your self-esteem. Even if you spent a decent amount of money on these pills, it’s in your best interest to throw them out. Eat healthy food and exercise on a regular basis. You’ll find that you never needed them anyway!
7. "Diet" Everything
Low-fat sour cream and Smart Ones frozen lunches are fine in moderation, but if you eat these “diet” foods all the time, you may start feeling guilty anytime you eat something that isn’t. There are plenty of regular foods out there that are good for you but aren’t “fat-free." Try eating some eggs or an avocado; You'll feel healthier and more satisfied.
8. Waist Trainer
Nearly all of the Kardashians have been touting those infamous waist-trainers that are supposedly the secret behind their flawless hourglass physiques. What they don’t tell you is that genetics play a much bigger role than those gimmicky waist-trainers! You may find yourself suffering for hours at a time with hardly any results. You know what will actually trim your waistline? Cardio and bicycle crunches!
