DIY Self-Tanning Ideas

It’s no secret that tanning is a major no-no for your skin. Sun exposure leads to skin cancer and premature aging, which is why sunless tanning is becoming more popular than ever. But instead of shelling out hundreds of dollars on self-tanners that leave your skin splotchy and orange, try these all-natural DIY sunless tanning options.

The Cocoa Powder Lotion Tan

All you need for this DIY self-tanner is a tablespoon of cocoa powder and a few pumps of your favorite lotion. Mix the concoction together and apply to your skin – and voila! For a darker color, throw a little more cocoa powder into the mix.

The Tea Bag Tan

Black tea is rich in antioxidants, which makes it a great choice for a natural self-tanner. All you’ll need is a spray bottle, two cups of water, and four black tea bags. Simply bring the water to a boil, add your tea bags, and let them steep for five to ten minutes. Pour the tea into your spray bottle, but make sure it’s not scalding hot so you don’t burn your skin. Then stand in your shower – or somewhere you don’t mind getting a little messy – and spray your entire body with the black tea. For a darker tan, apply more coats.

Another option for the tea bag tan is to fill a bathtub with hot water and ten teabags, and soak in the mixture until you achieve the color you want.

Tip: For a more even tan, shower and exfoliate before each DIY self-tanning option.
