Flaunt It: 4 Tips for Showing Off the Baby Bump in Style

Maternity clothing and fashion has come a long way. Pregnancy doesn’t mean you can’t keep up with the latest trends and stay fashionable. Of course, it takes a little tweaking of your typical wardrobe options but with a few updates you can stay in style the whole nine months. Once you’ve gathered the maternity clothing basics, you can branch out and try some fun styles. Here are four tips to keep your baby bump impeccably dressed.

Invest in stylish cardigans and jackets.

These are pieces that you can use during pregnancy and possibly for years to come. As that baby bump grows you can leave them unbuttoned/unzipped and still have a super stylish look. Cardigans look adorable with a skinny belt above the bump. Long, flowy cardigan and sweater styles also look great with a baby belly.

Don’t hide your tummy.

Show it off in form fitting dresses and tops. It is completely acceptable to wear stretchy, tight tops, just make sure they are plenty long enough to cover your belly completely. You can always layer a long tank top or camisole under your shirts if they are getting to a questionable length. It’s always a good idea to try on clothes a day or two before you plan on wearing them if you are getting dressed up for a big event. Your body can change rapidly during pregnancy and nothing is worse than putting on shirt before heading out the door and finding out it doesn’t fit anymore.

Don’t shy away from patterns.

Patterns can be scary, but in reality most patterns can be really flattering and slimming. You might want to stay away from large horizontal stripes, but other than that you can experiment and try new patterns. Floral can add a really flirty and feminine touch to your wardrobe. A small polka dot or thin stripe can also liven up your look.

Size up in regular clothes to accommodate your baby bump.

You don’t have to shop exclusively in the maternity department during your pregnancy. There are a lot of styles that you can size up in. It will require you to try things on but you have more choices than what’s hanging up in the expectant mom section. Choose stretchy, flowy styles, and avoid items that have a side or a back zipper. Not all styles will accommodate your baby bump so be selective about the items you try.
