Rock Your Booties: Easy, Everyday Looks

One of the biggest trends this fall is the ankle boot, or bootie. They come in varying styles and are usually made of suede or leather. These boots can instantly dress up any outfit and be an alternative to regular boots, which can be hot or clunky. Dresses, skirts, jeans, and leggings all match well with ankle boots, but keep these styling tips in mind when you’re putting together your next outfit.

Dresses & Skirts

There are not many guidelines when it comes to wearing a pair of booties with a skirt or dress because they naturally complement this classy attire. Both heeled and flat ankle boots are great alternatives when you don’t feel like donning a pair of stilettos. Unless you are wearing a maxi skirt or dress, it is probably a good idea to wear a pair of tights with your outfit to keep your legs warm. One of the most popular ankle boot styles is a short wedge covered in taupe suede. This style matches perfectly with a cream sweater dress and navy blue scarf, or a black a-line dress with gold jewelry.

Jeans

One of the key style tips to remember when wearing ankle boots with a pair of skinny jeans is to roll up your jeans correctly. Do not tuck the bottom of your jeans into the boots; it will make them wrinkled and look unsophisticated. You have several options for rolling your jeans, depending on how long they are and your personal preference. One of the most popular styles is to double roll the cuffs. This leaves a bit of skin showing between the bottom of the jeans and the top of the booties. Another method is to only roll the cuffs one time, but make it quite a large roll so your jeans are not being crushed by your shoes. If you decide to wear booties with a pair of bootcut jeans, always wear the jeans over the booties and never roll them up.

Leggings

Leggings follow the same basic rules as jeans: make sure your leggings and booties aren’t fighting for space. Since you cannot effectively roll up your leggings, choose leggings that are a tad shorter in length. One style guideline to remember when you’re wearing leggings is to make sure your top is longer than average. Most leggings do not have the zipper and pocket details of ordinary jeans, so they do not look as refined when the upper portion of them is showing. A chunky, cable knit sweater looks great with leggings because of the contrast, and you can balance out the voluminous top with a pair of stacked-heel booties.

Coats

Like all boots, ankle boots pair wonderfully with winter coats and jackets. A belted peacoat in a complementary or contrasting color adds an architectural element to laid-back booties and pull a look together. You can also pair a faux fur jacket with a pair of rugged, suede ankle boots for an edgy look, or a sleek high-heeled pair in black for a night out.
