Save Money, Buy Cheap Mascara

For centuries, long, lustrous lashes have been associated with femininity, beauty, and youth. It's no surprise that so many women are willing to spend extra money to achieve beautiful, full lashes, but you can achieve the same look with cheaper, drugstore mascaras.

Mascara Adds Up

The unfortunate truth is that no matter which brand of mascara you purchase, it needs to be replaced every three months. Due to this, mascara can add up quickly. The good news is that most drugstore mascaras are just as good as the pricier, high-end products. When searching for your new favorite mascara, you'll want to consider which features are most important to you. Do your lashes need some help in the lengthening department, or do you need something that will boost volume and thickness?

All Mascaras Are Basically Created Equal

No matter what it is you're looking for, it's important to remember that all mascaras contain the same basic combination of ingredients: wax, oil, and pigment. The specific type of wax and oil can vary from brand to brand, but the overall recipe is almost always the same. Many women use waterproof mascara to avoid smudging, but you may want to experiment with both waterproof and regular mascara to determine which works best for you. Regular mascara tends to have a smoother application, and even though waterproof mascara protects lashes from water and tears, it can be difficult to remove and damage your lashes.

The Secret Lies in the Brush

Frequently, when a cosmetics company comes out with a new line of mascara, what they're really advertising is the product's new brush. Believe it or not, the mascara's wand is almost more important than the mascara itself. Look for brands of mascara that include small brushes with short, thick bristles. You'll find that this type of brush works best to define and lengthen each individual lash. There are countless inexpensive mascaras with this style of brush. However, if you find you prefer the brush of an expensive mascara, simply purchase it once, and save the brush once you're finished with the product. Now, you can use the expensive brush with a cheaper mascara.

Inexpensive drugstore mascaras usually cost anywhere from two to eight dollars. You can use the money you saved on mascara to buy other cosmetics you like and save yourself a ton of money in the long term.
