The Anatomy of the Perfect Bubble Bath

There are bubble baths and then there are perfect bubble baths. You could just take a bath with some warm water and pretend you’re totally relaxed, but the reality is that you’re probably kind of cold and just ready to dry off. Stop this madness! If you’re going to run a bubble bath, then do it the right way. I’m kind of an unofficial bubble bath expert, so I know what I’m talking about here.

The Perfect Bubbles

First, you need to have the right bubble bath. I recommend either a lavender or eucalyptus scented bubble bath because they’re both relaxing. Lavender is best when you want to fall asleep right afterward, and eucalyptus is wonderful for treating aches and pains. As you begin running the bath water, drizzle in your desired amount of bubble bath directly under the stream.

The Perfect Salts

In addition to bubble bath, you can add bath salts. There are all kinds of bath salts on the market, so just choose some with the scent or relaxing properties you want most. Epsom salts are an easy, soothing, and affordable option. If you have sore muscles that need some major relief, toss in about a half cup right when you start the bath. You want to give the salts time to dissolve in the water.

The Perfect Water

The number one downfall people make with bubble baths is not having hot enough water. Lukewarm might feel just dandy over your hand, but it’s not going to be enough when you’re completely naked in the water. Run that water truly hot so you can lay back in the water for about 30 minutes before it becomes too cool. The hotter the water, the better for dissolving bath salts and putting you to sleep.

The Perfect Drink

I’ve learned that soaking in a hot bubble bath quickly leads to severe thirst. Pour a large glass full of ice water to sip on while you soak. You can’t drink bath water, and you definitely won’t want to hop out into the cold hair to grab a drink. You can also pour yourself a well-deserved glass of wine if need be. After all, bubble baths are a time to treat yourself.

The Perfect Music

An important but often overlooked aspect of bubble baths is music. Relaxing in the silence is fun for about five minutes, so background music is crucial. Choose your favorite soothing music, set it to low or medium volume, and let it keep you entertained while you soak.

The Perfect Book

Finally, you need a book. While you don’t have to read a book while you take a bubble bath, it does enhance the experience. Choose a book you enjoy, and settle in for a warm, relaxing evening. Be careful not to get the book wet however, and keep a washcloth nearby to dry off your hands if needed.
