Birkin Bangs
If you are looking for a glamorous new look this fall but don’t want to sacrifice length, Birkin bangs are in! This look has already transcended generations so its not a shock to see it making its welcome return this year. Combining wispy layers and curtain bangs, you’ll look like a dream.
Named after French actress and singer Jane Birkin, Birkin bangs will give you bohemian chic elegance while exuding carefree confidence. On the downside, this won't add much volume, but worry not if you don’t quite have the length to pull this off – it’s nothing some extensions can’t fix!
Bixie
The bixie haircut is a stylish middle ground between a pixie and a bob, offering the best of both worlds. It usually sits just below the ears or grazes the jawline, with soft, feathery layers that create movement and texture.
Unlike a sharp bob, the bixie feels more relaxed and tousled, with choppy ends that give it an undone, modern edge. Many versions include long, side-swept bangs or curtain fringe to frame the face, adding softness. It’s lightweight, easy to maintain, and can be styled sleek for polish or with waves for a more playful, lived-in look. Perfectly versatile.
Goddess Braids
Goddess braids, sometimes called Bora Bora braids or boho braids, are laid-back, glamorous, and a little bit extra in the best way. They combine the structure of traditional braids with free-flowing strands, giving off that “I just stepped off the beach but still made it to the holiday party” kind of vibe.
The mix of neat braiding and loose curls makes this style feel playful yet polished, which is exactly why it’s trending this season. What makes these braids stand out is their ability to look effortless without sacrificing impact. They’re protective, low-maintenance, and last through winter while still giving off summer energy.
Curly Pixie
The curly pixie is proof that short hair doesn’t mean short on style. This cut takes the classic pixie and amps it up with natural or styled curls, creating a playful yet sophisticated look that works in every season—but especially in the cozy layers of fall and winter. The texture softens the boldness of a cropped cut, giving it movement and personality that straight pixies sometimes lack.
What makes the curly pixie so fun is how low-maintenance it can be. A little mousse or curl cream, and you’re out the door looking like you spent hours with a stylist. It frames the face beautifully, works with different curl patterns, and can be dressed up with accessories like headbands or clips. It’s chic, versatile, and just edgy enough to say, “Yes, I chopped it—and I love it.”
Fairy Waves
Fairy waves are the answer for anyone who wants to look like they just stepped out of a woodland storybook—but with better lighting and great hair products. Unlike tight curls or beach waves, this trend leans into soft, airy movement that feels effortless and whimsical. Think flowy, delicate bends that catch the light just right, giving your hair that “magical but I still use dry shampoo” kind of energy.
The best part? Fairy waves are surprisingly easy to create. All you need is a large-barrel curling wand or flat iron, a few gentle twists, and then a quick finger-comb to keep things from looking too polished. Finish with a mist of shine spray or lightweight hairspray, and voilà—you’ve got a style that looks equal parts romantic and modern.
“Chelsea Park” Claw Clip
The Chelsea Park claw clip hairstyle may have blown up on TikTok, but here’s the truth—it’s really just a chic remix of a classic updo that’s been around for ages. It’s the kind of half-up, half-down moment that makes it seem like you’ve mastered French-girl hair without even trying.
To nail the look, start by gathering your hair into a low ponytail at the nape of your neck. Twist the ponytail upward against your head, leaving the ends free to spill out at the top. Secure the twist with a claw clip—preferably a chunky, on-trend one—and adjust any loose strands for that perfectly undone finish.
Three-Tiered Layers
By stacking layers in distinct sections—usually top, middle, and bottom—this style adds volume and shape without losing length. It’s perfect for anyone who wants a haircut that feels full and dynamic, whether your hair is straight, wavy, or curly.
To achieve three-tiered layers, a stylist will section the hair horizontally into three zones: crown, mid-length, and ends. Each section is cut slightly shorter than the one beneath it, building natural volume and flow. Styling is simple: blow-dry with a round brush for soft body, or finger-comb with a light styling cream for a relaxed, tousled look.
Butterfly Cut
The butterfly cut is a whimsical, face-framing hairstyle that combines layered texture with a soft, feathered finish—think of it as your hair’s very own wings. Perfect for adding movement and dimension, this cut works on straight, wavy, or slightly curly hair, giving a natural lift and a playful bounce. It’s ideal for anyone looking to refresh their look without sacrificing length,.
To achieve the butterfly cut, a stylist layers the hair in a way that the shortest layers fall around the cheekbones and jawline, gradually extending into longer layers toward the ends. The layering is often feathered for a soft, airy effect, creating the illusion of weightless movement. Styling is simple: blow-dry with a round brush for volume, or let it air-dry with a bit of texturizing spray for a soft, tousled finish.
Bantu Knots
Bantu knots are bold, playful, and undeniably iconic—a hairstyle that makes a statement while protecting your natural hair. Originally rooted in African traditions, these mini coiled buns can be worn as a full head of cute, spherical knots or unraveled for a gorgeous, voluminous curly look. They’re perfect for fall and winter because they keep your hair tucked away, reducing breakage while looking effortlessly stylish.
To create Bantu knots, start with clean, detangled hair. Divide your hair into small sections, twist each section tightly from root to tip, and then wrap the twist around itself to form a small coil. Secure each coil with a small elastic or hairpin. For a polished look, you can apply a bit of styling cream or gel to smooth edges. Wear the knots as-is for a chic updo, or let them set overnight and unravel them for soft, defined curls with tons of body and texture.
Banana Clips
Banana clips are back, and yes—they’re officially cooler than you remember from the ’90s. This retro-inspired hairstyle instantly transforms flat, lifeless hair into a voluminous, sleek, and playful look. Perfect for fall and winter when you want a quick style that still feels polished, banana clips give your hair lift and shape without hours of teasing or heat styling.
To achieve the look, gather your hair into a low or mid-level ponytail and slide the banana clip over it, allowing the hair to fan out along the curve of the clip. For extra volume, gently tug sections of hair along the clip or loosen the top layers. Banana clips work on almost any hair type—straight, wavy, or curly—and can be dressed up with accessories or left simple for a chic, everyday style.
Blurred Roots
Blurred roots are the modern, low-maintenance answer to the classic grown-out hair dilemma. Instead of harsh lines between your natural color and highlights, this technique creates a seamless, soft transition that looks natural and lived-in. It’s perfect for fall and winter because it adds depth and dimension to your hair while letting you stretch salon visits without sacrificing style. Think effortless chic meets “I woke up like this” vibes.
To achieve blurred roots, a colorist typically blends your natural hair color with highlights or balayage using soft, feathered strokes. This creates a gradual, diffused effect from root to tip, rather than a stark contrast. Maintenance is minimal: you can let your roots grow out without visible lines, and styling is flexible—air-dry for a relaxed, natural look or smooth with a flat iron for polished shine. The end result is a sophisticated, lived-in finish that feels modern and effortlessly stylish.
Sleek and Straight
People with straight hair now have a reason to shout from the rooftops with joy. Their style is finally in! Let your natural locks dry and strut your stuff. For those of us that don’t have straight hair, we can straighten our lovely locks using a flat iron or blow dryer.
Of course, the amount of heat necessary to make your hair pin-straight depends on how curly your natural hair is. Before dialing up your flat iron to 400 degrees, make sure you do your research. Most people should stick to the lowest heat setting to protect the integrity of the strands. Additionally, invest in a quality heat protectant spray for added protection, especially if you're trying to maintain your color.
Cowboy Copper
Cowboy Copper is the fiery, rugged-handsome hair color that’s perfect for fall and winter—it’s warm, bold, and a little rebellious without trying too hard. This shade combines rich copper tones with sun-kissed highlights, giving your hair depth, shine, and that perfect “I just rode in from the desert” glow.
To achieve Cowboy Copper, a colorist will blend deep copper and golden tones throughout your hair using balayage or highlights for a natural, dimensional effect. Maintaining the color involves using color-safe shampoos, conditioners, and occasional gloss treatments to keep the vibrancy alive.
Blunt Bangs
Slick backs are the ultimate “power move” hairstyle—polished, sleek, and ready for anything. Whether you’re rocking a high ponytail or a tight bun, this style screams confidence while keeping hair out of your face. It’s perfect for fall and winter when you want a chic, low-fuss look that works for everything from Zoom calls to holiday parties. The clean lines also highlight facial features, making your makeup and accessories pop.
To achieve a slick back, start with brushed, detangled hair. Apply a lightweight gel, mousse, or styling cream for hold and shine. For a ponytail, gather hair tightly at your desired height and secure with a hair tie; for a bun, twist the ponytail and coil it around the base, securing with pins or an elastic. Smooth any flyaways with a fine-tooth comb or hairspray.
‘90s Supermodel Layers
The '90s supermodel layers haircut is a timeless and iconic style that continues to inspire stylists today. Made famous by supermodels like Cindy Crawford and Naomi Campbell, this trend redefined hair fashion in the '90s. The haircut features cascading layers that frame the face with soft, voluminous waves, adding texture and depth to any hair type.
The look of '90s layers effortlessly blends sophistication and chic, making it perfect for both casual and formal occasions. Whether worn with a full face of makeup or something more subdued, the '90s supermodel layers haircut will capture everything you want in a glamour hairstyle.
Blunt, Shoulder-Length Lobs
Lobs are in like Flynn. This is great news for anyone that got a bob during the summer because they can keep growing it out instead of scheduling another expensive trip to the salon. For those with fine and medium hair, this cut is perfect because it's cool without being messy.
Plus, lobs give us a little extra length to do a little something if you feel like dressing up. You can curl it, braid it, straighten it, make a formal updo or a casual half-up, half-down look. The possibilities really are endless with the shoulder-length lob. Layers are also encouraged for those with fine hair.
Shaggy Lob
Picture yourself with tousled waves cascading down your shoulders, exuding an enchanting aura of confidence and playfulness. A cross between a shag and a long bob, the shaggy lob will give you an edgier look this fall. It doesn’t get much better than this.
Offering a low-maintenance style that’s plenty warm for the fall season, you can choose from an array of variations such as casual beach waves to sleek and chic evening elegance. The choppy layers of the shaggy lob provide a relaxed look without sacrificing elegance. It’s an excellent choice for a youthful appearance.
Italian Bob
With Italian husbands trending on TikTok, it's no surprise to find the allure of Italian style permeating the world of fashion. This chic hairstyle embodies the essence of Italian elegance and flair. With its precise chin-length cut, the Italian bob frames the face beautifully, accentuating your jawline and flattering your facial features.
This hairstyle is surprisingly versatile and can be tweaked ever so slightly to your preferences. Whether you are dressing up for formal occasions or dressing down for a weekend getaway, the allure of the Italian bob knows no bounds. If you are looking for a little more volume in a shorter haircut, this is a fantastic option.
"Bangs with Benefits"
This hairstyle started as a Korean trend, then moved over to TikTok where it got the name "Bangs with Benefits." It's a unique cut, very similar to Jlo's classic hairstyle in the early 2000s. It features curtain bangs with a little extra hair on the side that frames your face.
Unlike your typical face-framing bangs, this uses less hair to create the bangs, meaning it'll be fuller on the sides. Additionally, it looks good whether your hair is tied up or if it's left down. Either way, this is quickly becoming one of the top hairstyle trends of the year.
Mullets
Topping the list as the most surprising haircut to make a comeback is the mullet! In previous years, we've denied that mullets were actually creeping their way back into salons. Instead, we called them "shaggy pixies" or "layered shags." Well, it's finally happened folks. Where last year was the year of the shaggy pixie, mullets are back in most of their former glory.
We know what you're thinking... Mullets are reserved for people in the deep southern backcountry. But forget that feathered-up mullet for a minute. We're talking about the rocker mullet here. Sometimes it looks like a glorified shag, but there's no denying that this revamp embraces the age-old tradition of keeping business in the front and partying in the back.
Center-Parted Curtain Bangs
This year is all about bangs, bangs, bangs! And even if you've been stuck at home recently, you know all about the curtain bangs craze. Blunt has been the go-to lately, but several experts suggest that curtain bangs are best for those with center parts.
That's great and all for the hip and young middle-part lovers out there, but what about us oldies? What can these bangs do for us that traditional blunt fringe can't? Center-parted curtain bangs are especially ideal for those with thinner hair that find it difficult to pull off blunt bangs or trendy wispy fringe. Plus, it's super easy to style so that it blends into your layers and becomes practically nonexistent.
Big Chop
Extensions are popular for a couple of reasons, especially as the weather turns colder. The first is that your hair is short and you want long hair. A few expertly placed pieces, and boom! You have long hair again. Second, extensions can bulk up thinner hair. You can get them in any color and style it like real hair.
However, we're seeing a trend of people ditching the long longs in favor of short and chic! The "big chop" is referred to as the act of cutting off the chemically relaxed ends of your hair in order to let your natural texture shine. And because pixie cuts have wormed their way back into favor, it's the perfect time to take the leap!
Big Claw Clips
Ditch those low, messy buns. We aren't trying to look like your ancient high school librarian, right? So act like it! It's time to add an effortless vibe to your look by accessorizing with big claw clips. They don't have to be dressy either! You can wear them when you're dressed up or down because they’re so versatile.
One reason we prefer claw clips over the classic bun is that it doesn't have to be perfect. In fact, the messier, the better! The whole point is to appear free-spirited and youthful, which isn't a look usually achieved with a traditional ballet bun.
'60s Retro
We're not talking about the Farah Flip, although we do dig that style. This one takes the ‘60s flip and transforms it into something a bit more... subtle. The subtlety gives your hair some flair that accentuates your face in the best ways rather than overwhelming your beautiful facial features.
Essentially, this modern rendition of the '60s flip gives your hair the same volume and body without taking over your whole look. There's nothing wrong with rocking a bold hairstyle if you want to, but it's always preferred to coordinate your hair with your makeup and clothes so your natural beauty can shine through as well!
Subtle Brown Balayage
Not everyone is into big bold colors, and we get that, so this one is for you guys. All subtle brown balayage entails is dying your hair a rich brown hair with subtle light brown highlights. We love going a few shades lighter and adding a few caramel pieces in the mix.
You won’t regret this choice! It's literally the perfect hair color for autumn as the leaves change color and pumpkin spice lattes round the corner. Blondes can have fun in fall, too, but they own the summer! All you bodacious brunettes out there better get ready to rock it this season!
Angular Bobs
Angular bobs are kinda like regular bobs but are longer in the front and shorter in the back. This style was all over the runway this season, but that’s not the only reason why we love it. Angular bobs work great to keep your hair out of the way while also providing a bit of length to frame your face.
It's basically a reverse mullet, just without all the feathering. You have all the tools to transform your short and summery bob into a beautifully breezy fall-worthy style. Blondes should consider asking for shadow roots to elevate the look while brunettes always look amazing with caramel highlights!
Barrettes
We're beyond psyched to see this one come back. It's a great way to pull your hair back without damaging any of your lovely locks. That being said, some barrettes can still damage your hair if they're not made properly. Make sure to check your hair after using a new accessory for split ends and breakage.
The best thing about barrettes is the range of colors, patterns, sizes, and materials available. Plus, they can be found in most stores -- including pharmacies and department stores -- for pretty affordable prices. Even when you technically don't need a barrette to hold back your hair, they are cute ways to accessorize!
Wispy Baby Bangs
Baby bangs can be super hit or miss depending on face shape. We’re not saying you should get super short bangs on a whim because it's truly difficult to get some that look good. Always do your research before getting a fresh set of fringe -- we know you just had a breakup, but it's easy to regret hair-related impulses!
Instead, we suggest getting longer baby bangs at first because they give you the "look" while still providing a bit of space for your bangs to grow out. "Long" baby bangs include any type of fringe that hits the eyebrow or above. In other words, make sure you like regular bangs before diving into the wonderful world of baby bangs.
Textured, Graduated Bob
When is texture "out?" Pretty much never! Think about all the products marketed to you that claim they give your hair texture and volume. Textured bobs are especially in this year because they give your hair tons of volume whether you have thick locks or thin layers. We also suggest giving it a little curl.
By doing so, you can give your hair a little bit of poof. That body makes your hair look even thicker than normal without too much effort. Even with the best products, it takes time and knowledge to use them properly. Getting it cut like this the first time takes almost all the thinking out of the situation!
Braided Bun
This is a style we've been seeing all over the streets -- a braided bun. It combines two classic styles into one, making everyone's autumn dreams come true! The style looks absolutely gorgeous because it looks intricate but is actually really simple. Plus, it's great for your keeping your hair healthy!
Using beads and other accessories can also help jazz things up. Sometimes the braided bun speaks for itself and you don't need any accessories. Other times, like for fall weddings or other fancy shindigs, you want to elevate the look with pins and beads to separate your updo from the crowd.
Bandanas
We have something important to say! We're talking bandanas and braids today! No more tightly pulled-back hair. All that does is damage your locks (if your hair is on the thinner side), but that doesn’t mean you have to nix braids entirely. Braids are still on the table as long as you go with a low, loose braid and make it unique with a cute bandana.
These looks are casual yet elegant. No, we’re not just talking about a French braid. Just a simple three-strand braid is enough to bring beauty to any look! And bandanas can be found anywhere and be made from almost anything. An old piece of fabric works if you want to do some sustainable DIYs.
Invisible Layers
Invisible layers are really great for anyone. Whether your hair is straight or curly, you'll have a jaw-dropping look that'll have people staring in envy. If you have thin or fine hair, you can do a little teasing around the crown of your head to get a little extra va-va-voom.
You might have heard about invisible layers because they're going viral in influencer circles on Instagram right now, but what exactly are they? The goal is for each layer to blend seamlessly into each other, which is only achieved with expert technique. Shaving weight and bulkiness from the ends gives the layers a bounce and allows them to blend properly.
Half-Up, Half-Down
Half-up, half-down styles seem to top these lists every year and are another hairstyle that's become even more popular in the last year. Celebs especially love to wear this 'do because it looks glamorous, but it's easy to do. Personally, we love how this one gives you all sorts of volume in all the right places.
And if celebrities can do it, you can, too! It doesn't take a professional stylist and cosmetologist to pull it off. If you can manage a regular ponytail, you can do this hairstyle. Once you master the half-up pony, branch out into braids, buns, and accessories (our favorites are scrunchies and colorful barrettes).
Low Pony
We all have to stop pulling our hair back for a super tight pony! Yes, all of us! Split ends and breakage are never in, and routinely yanking your delicate strands into a high pony isn't always feasible. This can potentially damage the follicle, which results in prematurely thining and damaged hair.
Instead, try a low pony! Easy enough, right? We're not sure why this style ever fell out of favor... (We're looking at you, Ariana Grande). Higher doesn't equal better. Low pony's keep the focus on your face. You can style it up by wrapping a bit of hair around the band to hide the hair tie for an extra special look.
Double Dutch Braids
Out with French braids and in with the Dutch! This style is by no means easy, but once it's done, it looks amazing. It also looks great in a single braid if you're not feeling like doubling it up. We recommend practicing your French braiding skills before diving into the wonderful world of double Dutch.
Why? Stylists everywhere refer to the Dutch braid as inverted French braids, which implies having enough mastery over French braids to braid the opposite way. And two Dutch braids are the trending style for fall, so one isn't enough! Doubling this braid gives you a youthful glow without looking lazy. They're the perfect style for working out, running to class, and after-work shenanigans.
Choppy Bangs
We adore choppy bangs for two reasons: First, they have a balancing effect on your face. They will draw attention toward your eyes, giving someone something to focus on. Second, growing them out is a lot less annoying than completely blunt bangs. That alone is enough to make it the haircut of the season.
Choppy bangs are a go-to for girls who love staying up late and experimenting with their hair. We all know someone who broke down and cut their own bangs during quarantine when all the salons were shut down. And now celebrities are picking up the choppy, low-maintenance look as well! Keep an eye on the red carpets and you'll spot some choppy locks.
Auburn
Step aside, brunettes, we all know what autumn is really for... redheads! Usually, people go for burgundy reds in other seasons, but fall is different. We're talking all natural! The "Genetic Ginger" was super popular last year, and it's obvious why. The color is beautiful, but it's a dramatic change for some.
Because bright orange isn't everyone's cup of tea, the less-obvious auburn has stepped up to take its place. Most people describe auburn as reddish-brown or even "dark ginger." And what's great about these shades is how flexible they are. Genetic gingers typically compliment pale skin tones the best, but auburn is kind to a variety of skin tones and eye colors.
Straightener Curls
Flat irons aren't only for straightening! Straightener curls may not seem easy, but when you get the hang of it, it's second nature. Even better, there are fewer hot tools hogging your cabinet space when you master this curling technique! Just wait until the straighter gets hot, section off a piece of hair, clamp the straightener down, and twist away.
Then, bring the straightener down and away from the face. Countless stylists use flat irons to give their clients envy-inducing waves. Curling irons still play a role in the curling game. If you want fuller, tighter coils, then the classic barrel is your best bet. But loose, beachy curls are better achieved with a flat iron.
Air-Dried with Natural Waves
Sometimes it's better to get rid of those heat tools altogether! Or, at least, put them away for a bit. Stylists say there's no need to constantly blast your hair with unnecessary heat. And now is the perfect time to take a break because air-dried is in, especially if you have natural waves.
Embrace your hair whether it’s frizzy, straight, wavy, or curly! Letting go of your hot tools doesn't mean that your hair-dried curls still don't need some love. Try out a few heatless techniques to make your waves silky, shiny, and enduring throughout the day. From scrunching with a cotton T-shirt to using mousse and texturing spray, there are plenty of healthy ways to look naturally chic.
Deep Side Part
We want to talk about the deep side part. What's so great about this style is that it can create a new shape for your hair without any real change. It can be challenging to train your hair to stay that way, but it will create a thickening effect for the portion that’s flipped over.
This can be especially ideal for anyone that has thinner hair and is searching the world for secrets to faking volume and overall thickness. Yes, we know that middle parts are sworn up and down by teenagers as the superior style, but we're not all nineteen with hair as thick as a wooly mammoth. No matter what the youngins have to say, you do you!
Platinum
We're digging the platinum look even as summer comes to a close. It can be paired with any other hairstyle on this list or speak for itself. You can also choose whether it's a flat color or made multi-dimensional with highlights and shadow roots. As salons swarm with girls looking for the perfect auburn shade, blondes should still have their fun!
Winter is perfect for girls looking to rock platinum for the season. Because it's defined by pale silvery shades, you'll stand out at Christmas parties as "that girl" who really knows how to present herself with confidence! Plus, think of the potential winter photoshoots with the girls. Blonde doesn't equal better, but platinum is basically perfection!
Round Layers
Layering seems to be taking off this year, whether it’s in clothing or hairstyles. Round layers are ideal for women that need body in their hair. These layers can help define the shape of your face, and it doesn't hurt that they can even make hair look more voluminous.
Princess Diana was known for her fabulously chic '80s round cut when she entered the British Royal Family. And with the release of numerous Hollywood biopics and series on the royals, her story takes mainstage. From Netflix's The Crown to Kristen Stewart's Spencer releasing in November, it makes sense that round layers are back in style.
Small & Micro Braids
Before we get started, braids are not easy, but they are popular. They've been showing up a lot more than usual during autumn, so it could be worth practicing. If you want to achieve this style, all we can say is don't give up! It’s just like learning to braid for the first time. Eventually, you’ll get it.
From cornrows to Ghana braids, the sky is the limit for this style. Cornrows date back to at least 3000 B.C. when warriors and royalty were identified by their specific braids. Keep this history in mind when deciding if these braids are really for you. Plus, when you're making your braiding appointment, it's the perfect time to try out extensions and new colors!
Curly Ends
Sometimes we just don't have time to curl all of our hair. If you have longer hair, we get it. Who has hours of spare time in the morning? Not us! Instead of curling the whole thing, go for the very ends. It still shows an effort and can honestly look better than full-on curls.
It's a little casual, a little classy, but adds a lot of va-va-voom. Wearing this style down is popular in the fall and winter, but on those weirdly warm days, it can also easily be pulled back into a half-up pony or high messy bun. Because the ends are already curled, these updos will need little to no extra styling!
Finger Waves
Does anyone else remember finger waves? They were super popular in the early 20th century — mainly the '20s — but then fell out of style. Now, they're back! Finger waves are great for women with short hair who have limited choices for fancy hairstyles because updos aren't an option.
You can create finger waves by using gel, a large-toothed comb, and (obviously) your fingers! If you have a special occasion coming up, don’t be afraid to wear finger waves. You will surely stand out from the crowd of Ariana Grande ponytails and slicked-back buns.
