The Weirdest Beauty Trends of All Time

Fashion changes all the time. What’s “in” may be “out” by the time the next season rolls around. Out of every area of fashion, beauty is one of the areas that change often. Something that’s "in" can become dumb in a matter of weeks. Most of it depends on what’s trending on social media sites like Instagram, but cultural beauty ideals inspire others. Just take a look at “Instagram eyebrows.” They popped up and have been in style for quite a while – although you’d be hard-pressed to find them on the streets.

Sometimes, the beauty trends are gorgeous. Red lips have risen to popularity thanks to Instagram and YouTube. Matte lipstick is another that the world embraced with open arms. However, for every time you have something that compliments any face, you have something that’s really… strange, to say the least.

We know that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but some trends are so bizarre that we aren’t sure how anyone could find them beautiful or attractive. Maybe we missed a memo? Wherever they came from, here are the top 10 weirdest beauty trends of all time that leave us questioning the beauty community.

Silvered Hair

Silvered Hair

Many people start dyeing their hair once it turns gray, but now young people are dyeing their hair gray as a fashion statement. You have plenty of time to embrace the gray trend when you’re older, so why not embrace your natural hair color now? Otherwise, before you know it, you’ll be trying to dye your hair back to its original color.

Honestly, we don't hate this weird beauty trend, but we do question it. Why are all these beautiful, youthful men and women spending their precious time and money dyeing their hair gray when it's going to get gray anyway one day? Just wait a few years, and you'll get there youngins, and then you'll wish you embraced the assets that you had when you could!

Toe-Besity Surgery

Toe-Besity Surgery

“My toes are too fat." Yes, some people have apparently had that exact thought, and they’ve done something about it. You can now have surgery to “slim” your toes, but no one’s going to notice whether you have chubby toes anyway, so you might as well spend your money on a good pedicure.

And it might be a creepy thing to say, but there will always be someone out there who loves your toes. Or, at least, they don't care what they look like. Most normal people aren't thinking about toes day in and day out. There are way too many things to pay for that don't have to do with toe surgery. Priorities, people!

Super-Short Bangs

Super-Short Bangs

Bangs are constantly going in and out of style, and super-short bangs are apparently all the rage. How short? About an inch or two, which makes them a million times worse than even those horrid, choppy bangs you had in elementary school. This trend is ridiculous. It has to be bangs or no bangs ... there’s no in-between.

There's a happy medium when it comes to bangs. If you want them long and the option to hide them?  Get curtain bangs. If you want them short, shear them above the eyebrow, but make sure that you're still covering the majority of your forehead... otherwise, what's the point of having them anyway? Bangs are supposed to frame your gorgeous face, not elongate it like a horse.

Tattooths

Tattooths

Tiny, subtle tattoos are becoming increasingly popular, but one of those tiny tattoos stands out from the rest: the tattooth. These tooth tattoos can be astoundingly intricate, but why go through all that effort and pain for it to be seen by no one (if it’s towards the back of your mouth) or for it to be seen at the worst possible moments (if it’s one of your front teeth)? Surely it can't hold up for long, either.

Some pain experts shared that the tooth is among the most uncomfortable areas to experience pain compared to the rest of your body. That's because of the strong concentration of nerves at the root. Jamming a needle repeatedly into your enamel surely can't be worth all the trouble — or the money. If you must make your tooth "glam," glue a rhinestone to it. It's really that simple.

Furry Manicures

Furry Manicures

For some unfathomable reason, many people have taken to gluing faux fur to their nails in the name of fashion. Besides looking like something out of a horror movie, how can people with these nails DO anything? There would be fur everywhere, and every time you wash your hands, your nails would smell like a wet dog.

And are you supposed to brush them every day? Might as well add brushing your hairy nails into your daily routine, or they'll get tangled. While we do have millions of questions — the biggest one being "why?!" — we're not sure if we want the answers. Who knows what the first person who did his look was thinking? Hopefully, this furry trend dies out sooner rather than later.

Bedazzled Lips

Bedazzled Lips

Celebrities, runway models, and women on Pinterest have recently taken to rocking the bedazzled-lip look. Women glue rhinestones or other jewels to their lips, and while it looks fine in photos, it seems like a nightmare in real life. Eating or drinking become a chore, and giving your partner a kiss could literally scar them for life!

If you love rhinestones and everything glittery, leave it to eyeshadow and clothing. There's absolutely no need to spend hours gluing rhinestones to your body unless it's your job. It might sound fun before you go out on the town with the girls, but it's not worth it. Trust us.

Eye-Enlarging Contacts

Eye-Enlarging Contacts

Large eyes are a traditional sign of beauty, so if you want to make your eyes look bigger, you can now buy “eye-enlarging” contacts that make your irises look larger and more defined. This product may be missing the point, though. No one cares about how big their irises are. People care about how big their eyeballs are, and there’s a much more effective way to make them look bigger: eyeliner.

We understand that mimicking Disney Princess eyes makes you look more youthful, and sometimes reads less pretty than creepy. Luckily, this trend hasn't made it to mainstream circles in the United States, but we're not far behind. These contacts will be available for sale right next to your favorite eyeliner in the drugstore before we know it.

Yaeba Teeth

Yaeba Teeth

In America, we manipulate our teeth to make them as straight and perfect as possible, but in Japan, women are doing the opposite. Like their obsession with making their irises larger, they've latched don't another unconventional beauty trend that's knocking at America's door. It’s trendy for Japanese women to have overcrowded, crooked teeth, and many undergo dental procedures to obtain this look.

We all can agree that the slightly crooked, unsymmetrical look does look kind of cute in a childish way, but a painful dental procedure probably isn't worth it if it isn't medically necessary. Who in their right might would pay thousands to make their teeth more crooked? We don't want to think about all o the issues it can cause. Those dentist bills will never go away!

Nose Waxing

Nose Waxing

Everyone has nose hair, and most of the time it's completely unnoticeable. And even if it is slightly noticeable, it can be easily and painlessly trimmed! This raises the question of why people are inserting hot wax into their nostrils and ripping out their nose hair (and likely ripping their soul in two from the pain). We may never know.

It's one thing to get your nose waxed if you're a hairy beast who has nose hair that can't be tamed by the everyday trimmer, but it's a different thing if you're letting your sixteen-year-old daughter get the skin ripped out of her nose when she barely has any nose hair to begin with. The same goes for eyebrow threading. If it's not unruly and can be fixed with a pair of cosmetic scissors, skip the salon and do it yourself!

Bagel Head

Bagel Head

The bagel head trend, which involves injecting saline into the forehead to create a swollen, bagel-shape, has become pretty popular in Japan in recent years. The appeal isn't entirely clear. It seems highly uncomfortable, and who wants to look like they shoved a bagel under their skin?

This trend is just ridiculous. In fact, we refuse to believe that people are actually doing this to themselves. Hopefully, most of us aren't so impulsive... These is very expensive "beauty" mistakes to make! What about bagels are beautiful outside of your morning breakfast? Get them away from the forehead, please!
