These Fashion Trends Should Stick Around in 2024

Twee

Twee

Peter Pan collars coming back is a new trend younger generations are calling “twee.” It sounds all new and unique, but in all honesty, it’s like the hipster of the early 2000s. One of the people that spearhead the whole twee aesthetic is Zoey Deschanel, so that tells you exactly what’s “in” as far as fashion.

It’s like a manic pixie dream girl meets Chanel. Out of all the collar options, Peter Pan collars have always been our favorite because they’re delicate, feminine, and can go with literally any outfit (other than a T-shirt, at least). Nowadays, you can even get a collar insert to go with your existing closet, so it’s never been easy to hop on a trend.

Tapestry Coats

Tapestry Coats

While coats that resemble your grandmother’s old dusty couch abandoned in the storage unit aren’t to everyone’s taste (especially when described in that way) but the vintage trend embraces eclecticism once more.

But why tapestry coats, you say? They’re a break from the airy, lightweight fabrics of the summer with the ornate fabrics dominating the runways. All it takes is a little confidence, and you’ll be taking the streets like your own personal catwalk.

Turtlenecks

Turtlenecks

Turtlenecks used to get a lot of hate…for no reason! This year, turtlenecks are in, and we’re loving it! From sweaters to knits, these can dress up any look for a chic and stylish vibe.

Try out a chunky knit sweater during the cooler months, or a simple black turtleneck for a morning brunch look.

Vivid Yellows

Vivid Yellows

Yellow is the color for the new year! It’s bright, colorful, and makes a statement. Wearing yellow just makes any day that much more wonderful. We’re seeing yellow in all shades this season, but our favorite is vivid mustard.

Pastels were in last year, and we got a taste of yellow. But this year…we’re going bold! From yellow summer dresses to yellow handbags and scarfs, find a way to sneak it in your wardrobe this year and you won’t be sorry.

Sherpa

Sherpa

Finally, Sherpa is back! Everyone get excited! Can you tell that we’re super excited about Sherpa? Why? Well, because it’s the epitome of warmth. On a freezing cold day, a Sherpa coat really hits different. It warms you up without making you look super bulky (like puffer coats often do).

Don’t get us wrong, we love puffer coats, but they don’t create the sleek silhouette that you can get with Sherpa-lined jackets. Alternatively, you can also get a jacket that’s full-on Sherpa. Not only are these jackets warm, but it’s also almost like walking around with a blanket. Who doesn’t want that?

Joggers

Joggers

It’s the season of WFH, which means virtual meetings, ‘round-the-clock childcare, and routine exercise to prevent going stir crazy. A staple of comfort and functionality joggers are the obvious solution for practical pandemic fashion.

Like turtlenecks, joggers are versatile. But instead of going straight from work to a bar with friends, joggers are the staple of all day. From home office to grocery pickup to walking around the block, productivity would fly out the window without these bottoms.

Vintage Handbags

Vintage Handbags

These days it’s all about new, new, new! We’re taking a breather from newness and enjoying a throwback moment in the handbag department. Every great handbag collection must have a few vintage pieces, and if your collection doesn’t…now’s the time to change that!

Stop by your local vintage stores first, it doesn’t have to be a designer label to be fabulous, it just needs to be unique! However, if you’re a label lover, there are plenty of amazing online designer consignment sites where you can find vintage pieces.

Soft Clutches

Soft Clutches

If you’re tired of carrying clutches that make your hands cramp, we have the trend for you: soft clutches.

Cushy clutches are just the comforting accessory the public needs going into 2024. Not only are they extraordinarily soft, but typically big enough to hold your phone, wallet, keys, and a mass-market paperback of your choice.

Simple Gold Jewelry

Simple Gold Jewelry

Last season was all about heavy hardware, but this year we’re going simple and timeless. Jewelry trends come and go, but simplicity and elegance are always good choices. Gold jewelry is timeless. This season, try scaling back the jewelry with something that will last you a lifetime!

If you have the budget, consider saving for a few nice pieces rather than a lot of cheap ones. Even if it’s as simple as a gold pendant necklace, the quality will be noticed. Gold signet rings are also becoming a popular trend.

Bike Shorts

Bike Shorts

Bike shorts are the weirdly classier version of joggers, serving the same overall purpose, yet trendier in nature. These shorts were initially created for cycling, as their name implies, but have branched out into the athleisure sphere.

Simultaneously sculpting your legs and keeping casual, wear bike shorts if you’re trying to look your best while running errands without sacrificing comfort.

Sorbet Tones

Sorbet Tones

Pastel had a huge moment a few years ago but was quickly replaced by saturated whites and neutrals that have dominated the trendy color palette. In 2024, sorbet tones have sprouted from what we thought was the end of the pastel movement.

Don’t get it twisted; we’re not fawning over sickening baby blues and pinks that are the staple of Easter. Instead, it’s a beautiful, joyous blend of pale lavenders, oranges, and pistachio.

Knee-High Boots

Knee-High Boots

Boots that reach past the knee used to be reserved for the tall fashionistas, but Ariana Grande (5’3) officially declared the style a trend for everyone. Knee-high boots look great with shorts , skirts or with pants. You definitely have options. This trend is sure to stick around in 2024.

Especially comfortable when paired with an oversized crewneck, these boots range from skin-tight pleather to rigid and fall-casual. Moral of the story: don’t worry about your height, wear what you want! And with that said,  find a comfortable pair of boots to get you through any season.

Cinched Waist

Cinched Waist

Confidence comes from a variety of places, and fashion is one avenue to unlocking your own self-esteem. Yet as the oversized trend continues blazing through the fashion scene, our natural figures can get lost under all of the fabric. While stars like Billie Eilish might rock the baggy looks, most of us prefer to accentuate our waists.

Use high-waisted bottoms or a wide belt to tame the extra fabric and mimic the sought-after hourglass figure. We’re not saying that Kim K is the goal here, but the hourglass shape emphasizes balance by distributing weight evenly across the body, ultimately drawing attention to all the right places.

Patterned Sets

Patterned Sets

Pattern mixing had its moment, but now is the era of matchy-matchy looks. Hey, it’s 2024 and we need a little consistency! Just look around and you’ll pick up on all of the matching tops and bottoms being sold as a set or flouncing down the catwalk.

Because the pandemic probably isn’t going anywhere for a while, 2024 should carry on the pattern matching trend. Plus, nothing’s cozier for winter than a matching pair of fleece PJs.

Puffy Sleeves

Puffy Sleeves

Sculpted shoulders and puffy sleeves can drastically change your silhouette. Dresses, blouses, and sweaters with this distinct detailing will keep you looking trendy and bold. This all comes from a trend called "Regencycore." This trend is basically describing anything you'd see in shows like Bridgerton

Naturally, that's where this trend comes from. The only difference is that it's modernized. No one (except maybe fashion designers) expects people to run around in a tight corset and a low-cut top. It isn't the 1800s anymore. Puffy shoulders on a dress look beautiful, especially if it's an off-the-shoulder dress. You could also try puffy shoulders with a short-sleeved shirt!

Mom Jeans

Mom Jeans

Mom jeans were a fashion sin for decades, reserved solely for their self-prescribed wearers: mothers. Yet, once skinny jeans and low-rise waists let out their last breaths, high-waisted and loose-fitting pants shoved their way into the spotlight, becoming a style that has remained a trend since 2015.

Thrift shoppers and vintage fans popularized the look by taking oversized pants from stores and altering them to achieve a flattering silhouette. The best part of this trend is that anyone can do it, even without a sewing machine. There are plenty of hacks out there to quickly alter your jeans so that they fit your body perfectly.

Wedges

Wedges

That’s right, those shoes we all made fun of for years are back! Let’s not kid ourselves, wedges are comfortable and cute! That’s why the naysayers hated them. We can’t have anything comfortable without someone calling them tacky. Well guess what, we don’t care!

Wear your wedges with pride this season! If platforms have a place in fashion now, so do wedges! It’s just the natural progression of things. Instead of those jute-wrapped strappy wedges, find some leather wedges or something a little edgier! That way you’re still keeping this trend fresh.

Modern Victorian Blouse

Modern Victorian Blouse

For the vintage-inclined folks, the Victorian-inspired blouse is wearable yet chic. A step up from the traditional button-down, with its ruffles and embellishments, this blouse will make you stand out from the crowd.

Not only that, but puffy Victorian sleeves are popping up on runways everywhere. Modern trends affect the size of the sleeve, so don’t be surprised if you see sleeves that are a mix between Victorian flare and ‘80s drama in 2021. The bigger the better, right?

Faux Leather

Faux Leather

In the era of climate awareness and sustainability, the fact that faux leather is trendy is equally a blessing and a curse for the earth. From leggings to jackets to boots, pleather is much more durable than leather and spares the use of animals.

Unfortunately, pleather is made out of plastic, which requires the consumer to be conscientious when purchasing anything that is faux leather. Make sure to buy durable boots or trendy trenchcoats that will last a long time to avoid unnecessary textile waste.

Combat Boot, Dainty Dress Combo

Combat Boot, Dainty Dress Combo

One of our favorite trends is combining sweet and punk aesthetics. Dainty florals styled with chunky combat boots give an edge to a traditionally sweet and innocent look.

Look at it this way: if 2022 was a fashion trend, it would be all black and have no soul. So, after a year of complete insanity, we are trying to regain the sense of “good” in the world, and flowy dresses are part of that mantra. Life is all about balance.

Bucket Hats

Bucket Hats

Originating from 20th-century farmers and revived by ‘80s rappers, bucket hats have once again soared to popularity in early 2020. While a controversial look to some who deem the piece unflattering, who can deny how adorable these hats can be.

Doubly practical and cute, the modern bucket hat goes with anything—if you take the right approach. Bucket hats will especially be popular this year thanks to the surge of granny chic fashion that is taking TikTok by storm.

Matching Co-ords

Matching Co-ords

Goodbye jumpsuits and rompers, hello matching co-ord sets! There’s something about a matching set that’s just so stylish. You can use this trend in just about any setting. From athleisure to eveningwear, co-ords are a great way to instantly look stylized.

Too many pieces and patterns on an outfit just looks dated now. And we all know the struggle of going to the restroom in a jumper…so, let’s consolidate these trends into one with a two-piece matching set! Wear a cute coat or jacket over the set to break it up, and now you have an elevated, stylish look!

Square-Toe Heel

Square-Toe Heel

Though not an overly trendy style, the square-toe silhouette has been a go-to shoe style for dressy looks. You should see this trend return in 2024 once the weather starts warming up again. The square toe is wear it's at this year.

While the style is inherently simple, it’s professional working customers stretched their suits to the brinks of fashion with the style. Vogue reports the trend as replacing shoes, “with pointed or round toes,” for “the season's flagship footwear plays with volumes by opting for graphic lines anchored in the minimalist trend.”

Vintage Hair Scarves

Vintage Hair Scarves

Hair scarves have a medley of practical uses. From concealing oily roots to protecting newly quaffed hair from the wind, these seemingly simple pieces of cloth elevate any look to an unmatched level of vintage chicness.

Available in endless patterns, hair scarves should totally stick around for 2024. Who doesn’t want to see the world become a vintage paradise? Granny chic fashion is trending this year and a vintage scarf is the perfect accessory for your attire.

'70s Inspired

'70s Inspired

“Everything old is new again” states the old maxim, and nothing is truer than the return of ‘70s fashion. Bell-bottoms, flowing dresses, and embroidery are 1970s staples making a ginormous comeback far past the expected scene of hipsters and indie chicks.

Let’s just say, we won’t be seeing the fall of corduroy or olive tones any time soon. It appears Scooby Doo is still a thing for a reason and strangely enough the style of the characters is still in full swing.

Platform Sandals

Platform Sandals

Platform sandals and be edgy or bohemian considering the outlet they were purchased from. Released as espadrilles in some cases and spiky black in others, it’s the most versatile silhouette we’ve encountered.

From weddings to punk concerts to a day running errands, platform is the most sought-after style for the new year. Have you seen the new UGG houseshoes? Must have!

Tailored Blazers

Tailored Blazers

This year, we’re giving it the business. It’s time to lean in and take charge! Business wear is often neglected in the fashion world, but designers are breaking into structured garments that are still appropriate in the office!

Prada is a perfect example for some inspiration. Now, we’re not saying to plunge your credit card into duress to afford a Prada blazer, there are tons of dupes, but take some inspiration from the runway show and use it in your style!

Wide Leg Trousers

Wide Leg Trousers

Wide-leg trousers are simultaneously the epitome of comfort and drama. Highly fashionable in the '70s, this vintage style is making a big comeback. Wide-leg pants are fun and flirty and are sure to draw attention wherever you go.

Most flattering for tall and curvy people, the cut balances figures characterized by wide hips and thighs. The high-waisted aspect creates the illusion of a taller and leaner body. But really, anyone can pull them off, provided you find a style that suits your look.

Bucket Bags

Bucket Bags

Where did our fascination with bucket-shaped clothing accessories come from? We're not so sure about the answer to that one; at least bucket bags are a step up from the miniature bag trend happening on the red carpet for the past few years.

Instead, these bags are virtually chasms, begging to be filled up like water with all of your possessions. This is just the epitome of practicality and that's going to be important in this crazy year.

Fringe

Fringe

One of the big textures of the season is fringe. We’re talking about the kind of fringe that moves when you shift your body and shimmies when you walk. Sounds amazing right? Some stylists are choosing to go with full-on fringe dresses while others are choosing accessories like purses or necklaces.

On top of that, you’ll be totally comfy and cozy! Because colors are also huge, a lot of experts are saying you should get a puffer coat that’s a saturated color. It can be hard to style something like that, so we’d say going with white or black would also be okay. Jackets aren’t cheap, ya know!
