Threading Your Eyebrows at Home

Eyebrow threading is a relatively new practice, but it is becoming increasingly popular because it is fairly easy to do and is comparable to tweezing and waxing. It is faster than tweezing, and many find that it is less painful than tweezing. If you are interested in shaping your eyebrows and properly framing your face, you may be wondering how you can achieve this at home. There are a few tips you should follow if you have never done your own threading before.

Positioning the String

The first thing you will need is a piece of cotton thread that is about 24 inches in length. You should form a circle with it by tying the ends together. Next, to properly hold the piece of thread, put all of your fingers and your thumbs inside the circle and make the thread tight by pulling your hands apart. Separate your fingers from your thumbs in order to make the thread a rectangle. If you ever played the string game of "Cat in the Cradle," this will be familiar to you.

Practicing the Threading Technique

You will need to twist the string 10 times, so it forms an "X." Once you have done this, you will then need to move the twisted portion of the string towards the right. You can do that by spreading your left hand out, separating your fingers from your thumb, while also putting the fingers and thumb of your right hand closer together. Practice this a few times so you become more familiar with it and it becomes easy for you.

Removing Hair

When you're ready to remove hair, hold your skin tight, and put the twisted piece of the thread right next to the unwanted hair. To catch the hair in the thread, move it back and forth across the hair by moving your fingers around like you've been practicing. The twisted portion of the thread will move from right to left as your extend the fingers on your left hand and close the fingers on your right hand. You should start this slowly and carefully, so that you don't pull out more hair than you want. Once you have the unwanted hair within the twist, pull!

The least painful area you may want to start with is right between your eyebrows. You can practice on this section before moving to other parts of your eyebrows. After you feel comfortable with the technique, move on to the upper portion of your eyebrows. The most sensitive part will be the lower portion that is above your upper eyelid. You can thread your eyebrows in whichever order you choose, but this order may be more beneficial for you as you do this for your first few times.

Once you are done threading, treat your skin with olive or coconut oil; it will help to treat any burning and will also help your skin to recover more quickly. You can also use a toner or even simply ice. Cold water can also reduce pore size or any swelling if you are a bit overzealous at first.
