Why Pale is the New Tan

Pale skin is officially in. Or, more accurately, it's back in style considering porcelain skin was considered to be a sign of beauty and royalty for thousands of years. Tanning really only became fashionable in the early 1930s, and Americans are only just now starting to realize the severity of the sun’s damaging effects. Skin cancer has become the number one cancer in the United States, and people are finally starting to come to their senses. Still not convinced?

Indoor Tanning is Being Banned

Indoor tanning has been banned for minors in 10 U.S. states so far. Australia and Brazil have banned indoor tanning altogether. All the more reason to get with the times and give up the dangerous trend.

Tanning is Only “Cool” in America

While women in America are literally killing themselves to get the perfect dark tan, women in Asia are poisoning themselves with skin bleach to achieve the opposite skin tone. While there should definitely be a happy medium between the two, this just proves that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Tan is not the only option.

Save Your Money

It’s common knowledge that indoor tanning is expensive. The alternative, self-tanning with lotions, creams, or spray tans, isn’t much cheaper. Can you imagine how many millions the tanning industry makes on girls chasing the perfect Kardashian glow each year?

Embrace your Natural Beauty

The world is always changing and so are its trends. What society deems fashionable today will likely be out of style tomorrow. The moral of the story is don’t kill yourself trying to conform to society’s beauty standards. Learn to love the skin you’re in and set your own trends.
