10 Actors Who Dated an On-Screen Family Member

As if dating a co-worker isn't awkward enough, some actors decide they want to date their on-screen family members! Sure, they aren’t actually breaking any social norms, but it can be a little unsettling to find out that two performers who are playing siblings are getting physical off the set. Here are 10 couples who were formed out of fictional families!

1. Michael C. Hall and Jennifer Carpenter

The creepy storyline in Dexter where Deb develops feelings for her brother actually has a basis in reality. Michael C. Hall and Jennifer Carpenter fell for each other while playing siblings. They even got married in 2008! Although, perhaps it wasn’t meant to be. The pair split up after two years together.

2. Emily VanCamp and Chris Pratt

Before he was a household name, Chris Pratt played Bright Abbot on WB’s Everwood. He pursued a relationship with Emily VanCamp, who played his sister in the show. VanCamp would go on to date another on-screen sibling, Dave Annable while the two were on Brothers & Sisters. Kind of ironic, huh?

3. Milo Ventimiglia and Hayden Panettiere

There was a general level of discomfort that came along with the news that Milo Ventimiglia and Hayden Panettiere were an item, and it wasn’t just because they played uncle and niece on Heroes. Ventimiglia is 12-years Panettiere’s senior, and the two met when she was only 16!

Beverly Hills, 90210 thrust Shannen Doherty and Jason Priestley into overnight stardom. So, of course, gossip writers were ecstatic when it was revealed that the two had become intimate. Sure, they played brother and sister, but so much time together was doomed to lead to something, right?

5. Lauren Graham and Peter Krause

Although they had met before while guest starring on an episode of Caroline in the City, Lauren Graham and Peter Krause began to see each other in a new light 15 years later when they started playing siblings on Parenthood. The couple has been together since the show began in 2010, one of the few who are still going strong!

6. Maureen McCormick and Barry Williams

In a turn of events that surprised absolutely no one, Maureen McCormick and Barry Williams developed feelings for one another on the set of The Brady Bunch. There was always a certain level of sexual tension between Greg and Marcia Brady, but as a fan, I don’t know if I can get past their on-screen personas. (If you want more juicy details, check out McCormick's memoir!)

7. Katherine Heigl and Jason Behr

Though they played siblings on Roswell, Katherine Heigl and Jason Behr dated for two years during the show’s production. To make matters more awkward, they actually broke up before the show was off the air.

8. David Tennant and Georgie Moffett

Slightly more disturbing than the rest of the couples on this list, Georgie Moffett played David Tennant’s cloned daughter on Doctor Who. There is actually only an 11-year age difference, so it’s not quite as bad as it seems. In 2011, Moffett and Tennant married and now have three children!

9. Ian Somerhalder and Maggie Grace

While playing step-siblings on Lost, Ian Somerhalder and Maggie Grace took a liking to one another. They kept their relationship a secret until both their characters had been killed off. They weren’t the show’s only on-screen relatives to hook up; married couple Carrie Preston and Michael Emerson played mother and son on the series.

In Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, one of the film’s biggest conflicts was the tension between siblings. However, Matthew Broderick and Jennifer Grey actually became very friendly after meeting on the set and dated for a few years in the late 80s.
