10 Games to Play If You Love 5 Nights at Freddy's

With the success of 5 Nights at Freddy's, many people are beginning to realize the joy of playing horror games. The only downside is once you've beaten it, you aren't sure where to go next. Well, if you're a fan of the horror genre, here are 10 games you have to play.

  1. Outlast
Outlast is easily one of the best horror games I've ever played. It will scare the crap out of you and leave you shaking, but somehow you just can't stop playing. You control a reporter who is stuck in an insane asylum while he pieces together what went wrong. Where are all the patients? You'll find them soon enough. Outlast is on Steam for $19.99.
  2. Resident Evil Series
Resident Evil is one of the best-selling franchises of all time. Not only are these video games terrifying, but they're also incredibly difficult. You will traverse through towns, trying to solve mysteries involving cannibalistic murderers and grotesque zombies and monsters. Resident Evil games are available on Steam for $5.99–$39.99.
  3. Silent Hill Series
Silent Hill is another series that has made its name in the horror genre. It's so popular that it became a movie in 2006. Each game has its own macabre plot that’s sure to terrify you. Every game unfolds with a group of characters that has become trapped in the West Virginia town of Silent Hill. Silent Hill Homecoming is on Steam for $39.99.
  4. Slender Series
Slender started as a myth to keep kids and teenagers up at night. It began on YouTube where a video would be uploaded that centered on a guy trying to find his missing best friend. Slowly, the mystery unfolds as it is discovered he was captured by a man with no face who wears a black suit. Clues came in the form of pages left in various places. In the game, you look for these pages while trying to avoid Slender. Be careful of the drums. Slender: The Arrival is on Steam for $9.99 or Slender: 8 Pages for free at Softonic.
  5. Kholat
Set in Russia, you play a character who is retracing the steps of nine college students who went missing in 1959. The game is about a real-life incident (The Dyatlov Pass incident) where nine hikers were found dead in the northern Ural Mountains over a span of four months. It's your job to solve the mystery. Did I mention people go missing there all the time? Kholat is on Steam for $19.99.
  6. Betrayer
Betrayer is easily one of the scariest games to come out in 2015. It's a first-person shooter that takes you to the New World in the year of 1604. This game's unique color scheme only increases the terrifying survival aspect. You must battle against ghosts as you attempt to figure out what happened to the original 142 settlers who tried to colonize the area and went missing. Betrayer is on Steam for $9.99.
  7. PuniTy
You may have seen PuniTy on YouTube. If you haven't, I suggest you don't investigate. You should experience this story for yourself. The plot is difficult to pin down. What I can tell you is that you wake up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat. As you walk around the house, the mystery of a man who killed his family begins to unfold in a way that will leave you sweating. Another plus: The game is entirely free.
  8. Amnesia: The Dark Descent
Released in 2010, this gruesome game will keep you on the edge of your seat. You play a man named Daniel as he explores the dark depths of the Prussian Brennenburg Castle. For some reason, Daniel cannot remember what happened to him, and it's your job to figure out why he lost his memory. Sometimes, people are the least of your worries. It's available on Steam for $19.99.
  9. Dead Space Series
If you have a fear of space, this game will scare the daylights out of you. In Dead Space, you are in control of an engineer named Isaac Clarke who is in search of a missing mining vessel. It's your job to extract and rescue any survivors. Unfortunately, Isaac is in for a crash landing. He quickly finds out that humans aren't the only species aboard the vessel. Dead Space 1 and 2 are sold together on Steam for $34.99.
  10. Nevermind
This game isn't one of the cheapest ones you'll ever come across, but it's easily the scariest. The actual game itself is $19.99 on Steam, but the expensive part comes with the biofeedback sensors. Nevermind's website has links to sites that sell the sensors separately if you’re looking to take the game play up a notch. The sensors pick up when your pulse increases due to fear, and the game's response is to enhance the fear factor. This feature makes the game unique to each player. The sensors aren't necessary, but for $55 on Amazon you can get the Polar H7 Heart Rate Chest Strap—and the best gameplay possible.
