10 Reasons We Should All Bow Down to Queen Nicki

1. She stands for something.

1. She stands for something.

Between her tear-inducing duet with T-Swift at the 2015 Video Music Awards and countless empowering lyrics, it’s safe to say that Minaj is a feminist. She’s also an advocate for racial injustice; most recently, she recited Maya Angelou’s “Still I Rise” at A&E’s Shining a Light concert for racial progress. It. Was. Brilliant.

2. She's business-savvy.

Nicki certainly hasn’t limited herself to the world of music. She’s a part owner of Myx Fusions, a co-owner of Tidal, and has several fragrance lines. And Nicki’s not stopping there; the queen is producing (and appearing) in an autobiographical sitcom set to premiere on ABC Family/Freeform.

3. Every song she touches turns to Barbie-pink gold.

Just listen to her guest verse on Kanye West’s “Monster.” It was so good that Kanye admitted to nearly omitting the legendary lines from his 2010 hit—he didn’t want to be upstaged on his own album!

4. Nicki’s success can be attributed to herself—not a guy she dated or hooked up with.

It’s hard out there for a female rapper. The genre is notoriously male-dominated, and Nicki had to fight for her spot at the top. And she made sure not to ride on the coattails of any man.

5. She’s overcome a lot.

5. She’s overcome a lot.

I could write an unauthorized biography (tentatively titled Hail Onika, Full of Grace) and detail the highs and low’s of Minaj’s life, or I could let her speak for herself. She’s talked about growing up with an alcoholic, abusive father who burned her family’s house down. The first track of her latest album, “All Things Go,” is a candid confession of her life. Minaj discusses everything from failed relationships to the loss of her child.

6. She looks good in every color.

In case you were wondering, yes, I am talking about hair. She’s worn wigs of every shade under the sun. Personally, I’m a fan of blonde Nicki, but she slays in every color.

7. She can rock any look.

Nicki’s personal style has seen several phases. Whether she’s flaunting a wild look or opting for classic glamour, no one can pull it off like her.

8. She isn't afraid to speak her mind.

Do I even need to quote the clapback of 2015? Or is “Miley, what’s good?!” still echoing in your memory?

9. She's a great role model.

Believe it or not, Nicki’s very mindful of her younger fans. She’s always sure to release clean versions of her albums for little Barbz to enjoy, as she doesn’t want swear around them. Mother Nicki is also extremely passionate about education—she takes every chance she can to encourage girls to go to school and be the boss of their own lives.

10. She's iconic—and she's here to stay.

10. She's iconic—and she's here to stay.

Whether she’s spitting rhymes, acting on the big screen, or flexing her entrepreneurial skills, Nicki isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. Besides, she’s been immortalized as a Barbie doll.
