10 Things That Would Be Different if Bruce Lee Were Still Alive

He would be starring in terrible movies.

He would be starring in terrible movies.

It happens to even the biggest stars. Once you reach a certain age, even if you were one of the most popular names in the industry, you start taking roles that are beneath your talent level. We might be able to see Bruce Lee play someone’s grandfather in a cheesy drama.

He wouldn’t have maintained icon status.

He wouldn’t have maintained icon status.

Bruce Lee wasn’t nearly as popular as he is today, before he died. While he was extremely talented, much of the mystique of his legend is due to the fact that he died young. His work would not be nearly as talked about if he were alive today.

He would have never been in a cell phone commercial.

In case you forgot (or just blocked it out of your memory), Bruce Lee was inserted into a Nokia commercial a few years back through the magic of shoddy CGI. There is no way that he would have starred in it, or even have let Nokia use his likeness to plug their product were he still alive.

In an effort to spread their artistic license or just to get another paycheck, many people involved in the film industry take on other roles related to their field. Bruce Lee would have been able to promote the work of other artists while having his creative control behind the camera.

He would have been part of a major scandal.

Bruce Lee was infamously promiscuous, even though he was married. He also had a wild temper. Given enough time in the public eye, something would have risen to the surface that would have tarnished his reputation.

He would have opened up a chain of dojos.

Can you imagine how many kids would want to train at one of Bruce Lee’s dojos? He probably would have been an instructor, but he would have at least paid to give others a place to become skilled in the martial arts.

His son would still be alive.

His son would still be alive.

Brandon Lee famously died while filming The Crow. However, if his father were alive during this time, it’s unlikely that Brandon would have ever been in the movie in the first place. He would probably make movies with Bruce (we can only hope, anyway).

He would have started his own exercise program.

He would have started his own exercise program.

Many people would want to know the secret of how to look like Bruce Lee. He would have patented a system to give exercise tips. Everyone has their own workout plan, but you couldn’t go wrong with Bruce Lee’s.

He would receive much more criticism.

He would receive much more criticism.

As we’ve already discussed, there were many skeletons in Bruce’s closet. If he hadn’t died young, people would feel more comfortable calling him out for some of his failings on and off set. Now, however, no one wants to disrespect the legend.

He would have collaborated with Jackie Chan.

He would have collaborated with Jackie Chan.

Jackie Chan has been very vocal about the inspiration he drew from Bruce Lee. Young Chan famously got his butt kicked by Lee in Enter the Dragon, but it would be legendary to see the two martial arts legends in a rematch today.
