The end has finally come. The final installment of The Hobbit movie trilogy, and last film about Middle Earth we’re likely to have has hit theaters. Unless we get lucky enough to see The Silmarillion projected onto the big screen (fingers crossed). As we come to the end of this geek-tastic era, here’s a look back at all of the things we’ve loved about Middle Earth and will miss dearly.
- Hairy Hobbit Feet
Even though they’re mostly gross, there is also something endearing about those knobby, dirt covered, too large feet.
- Adventure, Glory, and Sacrifice
Who doesn’t love a dangerous, long-term quest across unknown lands to save the entire world from falling into destruction?
- Gandalf’s Biting Insults When People Are Dumb
Gandalf is the wizard of all wizards, and there’s nothing better than listening to him call lesser-minded individuals fools.
- Funny Dwarf Comments
Have you ever listened to the dwarves talk? Aside from the small glimpse we got from Gimli in LOTR, the Hobbit movies have immersed us in dwarf world. And we are thankful.
- Legolas and That Hair
Those glorious locks of icy hair are, arguably, the best visual on the screen, and we’ve been blessed with six movies to enjoy drooling over them. Not many men can pull of braids, you know.
- Mankind Screwing Things Up
Lets face it, aside from Aragorn and Bard the Bowman, the men of middle of Earth ruin everything. They’re usually greedy, dumb, or evil.
- Gandalf’s Last-Minute Escapes on the Back of an Eagle
Honestly, those eagles deserve some respect. They’re always saving Gandalf and friends from certain death. At least in The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies the eagles have a chance to prove their more than an emergency taxi service.
- Gollum’s Cute Creepiness
Yeah, he’s gross and dirty and his teeth need some serious help, but you can’t help but have a soft spot for this…creature? It’s not his fault the ring took advantage of his greedy, slimy little heart. We’ll miss that throaty hacking he always does.
- Elvish Riddles and Wisdom
Do I really need to give a reason to miss the Elves? They are everything that is good about Middle Earth. Plus, they’re pretty.
- Cross-Species Love Affairs
Everyone wants to root for the underdog, which is exactly what all these star-crossed lovers are. Gimli the dwarf loves Galadriel the Lady of the Forest, Aragorn and Arwen are madly in love (thank God that one worked out), and now Tauriel the elf and Kili the abnormally tall dwarf can’t take their eyes off each other. So many feels.
