13 Things We Expect to Learn at San Diego Comic-Con 2016

1. 'Star Trek': The Upcoming Television Series

1. 'Star Trek': The Upcoming Television Series

CBS announced last year that a new Star Trek series will air in 2017, but few details have emerged. It's Star Trek’s 50th anniversary, and the series will be the centerpiece of the CBS All Access streaming service. For these reasons, we expect more details to develop this week, as well as a big reveal.

2. 'Star Wars: Rogue One'

2. 'Star Wars: Rogue One'

Disney prefers to focus on their own Star Wars Celebration event and will not be hosting Star Wars panels at Comic-Con. However, Hasbro will be revealing their 2017 Star Wars toy line, which should expose many of the characters, ships, and gadgets we can expect in December’s Rogue One release and from Star Wars: Rebels. Grand Admiral Thrawn, please!

3. 'The Walking Dead'

3. 'The Walking Dead'

While they most certainly won’t reveal who Negan killed in the season six cliffhanger, we can expect to see clips and season seven previews that will hopefully hint at who survived. Expect every answer from the cast and crew at The Walking Dead panel to be dissected for clues as to who met their end!

4. 'Harry Potter': 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them'

4. 'Harry Potter': 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them'

Warner Brothers always goes big at Comic-Con, and we expect to see an extended clip from Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Hopefully, we’ll get a peek at the Massachusetts-based Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry featured in the flick that was revealed in print on Pottermore!

5. Wonder Woman

5. Wonder Woman

Gal Godot as Wonder Woman was the breakout star of the recent Batman v. Superman movie. Since it is Wonder Woman’s 75th anniversary in comics, we expect Warner Brothers/DC to bring something huge to the show. We especially want to see Sean Bean as the villain, Ares.

6. Pokemon GO

6. Pokemon GO

Just a few weeks ago, Niantic and Nintendo game designers were scheduled in a 480 seat breakout room. Since the game exploded, frantic rescheduling moved them to the famous “Hall H:" the giant auditorium reserved for the largest panels. We’re bound to find out a secret or two on what’s to come in the game (and when).

7. 'Game of Thrones'

7. 'Game of Thrones'

The television show has already passed the source material in the novels. Will we finally find out when the Winds of Winter novel is scheduled for release? The Game of Thrones announced panel is missing several main stars (Emilia Clarke, Kit Harington, Peter Dinklage), so we’ll be waiting to see what we can learn about season seven.

8. 'Power Rangers' Reboot

8. 'Power Rangers' Reboot

Go, Go Power Rangers! The Power Rangers have been around since 1993, but there is new excitement surrounding the 2017 movie reboot. We want to see Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa and Bryan Cranston as Zordon. At least, we are hoping for photo stills, but we would love (please, please) a full trailer.

9. 'Supergirl' and the CW

9. 'Supergirl' and the CW

The Supergirl television series heads to The CW next season, which already airs Arrow, The Flash, and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. Expect to find out how and if Supergirl will cross over with the other shows, and what other superheroes and villains we can expect to appear next season.

10. 'Aliens': 30th Anniversary

10. 'Aliens': 30th Anniversary

The fifth installment of the franchise, Alien Covenant, has been described as a dark horror movie. It is expected to build heavily off of the Prometheus film next year while trying to recapture the intimate horror feel of the 1979 release. We can expect a trailer that should give us an idea on how the director intends to do both.

11. 'Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2'

11. 'Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2'

Very little has been revealed about the sequel to the surprise Marvel hit, Guardians of the Galaxy. With the recent casting announcement of Mantis, could other cast announcements be expected at the show? Supporting fan theories that he could be Star-Lord’s father, we’re hoping it’s the comic series’ Adam Warlock. Stay tuned…

12. 'Spider-Man: Homecoming'

12. 'Spider-Man: Homecoming'

Tom Holland’s wisecracking, teenage Spider-Man stole every scene for which he was present in Captain America: Civil War. With the new partnership between Sony and Marvel, we’re hoping to see which Marvel heroes will appear in the film (Iron Man is already expected) and find out who the villains will be.

13. 'Justice League'

13. 'Justice League'

The movie has already had several behind-the-scenes shakeups, and fans are wondering where this leaves the film’s proposed 2017 release. It was originally not listed on the program, but Ben Affleck said that Justice League is coming to San Diego Comic-Con! As one of the most anticipated releases of next year and with a lack of information about the invited guests, this panel will be one of the most watched.
