Women's Fashion
These ladies look like they’re on a fun girls' trip and ready for a day out on the town. We could really learn a thing or two from women’s fashion in the '50s.
Scarves were all the rage back then, as you can see. Two of these classy ladies wear a patterned scarf around their neck, and one wears a headscarf. All the scarves are bright, fun colors that pair perfectly with their more neutral outfits.
A Beach Day
This photo is of a sunny beach day in 1950s Honolulu, Hawaii. People sit on their towels in the sand to soak up the sun, and a little boy looks through a telescope to see the faraway horizon.
Women are dressed modestly in one-piece bathing suits. A lot of the men are wearing swim trunks that are a little shorter than we’re used to now, but that was the style then.
Disneyland
This is a vintage Kodachrome photo of people at Disneyland in Los Angeles in 1959.the white picket fence is just so American. Everybody is dressed up for a fun day at the park!
Disneyland had only opened four years earlier in July 1955. Can you imagine being one of the first people to ever see Disneyland? The wonder that must have inspired countless generations to come.
Vegas Slot Machines
Can you believe this row of slot machines is actually at the Las Vegas airport? Before catching your flight you could spend a little time gambling in your nice airport outfit.
Here you can see a couple as they metaphorically roll the dice on a couple games. It’s also nice to see an airport that isn’t filled to the brim with people. This might actually be a fun place to spend a little time.
London Traffic
This image of London traffic looks like it could be in a museum. The colors are stunning, and the city signs look so bold. We can nearly hear the honking of the cars and the chatter of the people.
1950s cars are so prettier than cars today. They’re sleek and stylist, and you know they’re going to get you where you need to go. We also love seeing the iconic red double decker buses lined up on the roads.
Ready for the Big Game
This picture is just so stinkin’ cute. This little baby is dressed to the nines and sitting on the sidelines of a football game. His suspenders and hat have him looking very dapper!
A soldier on the field looks into the camera as he waits for the football game to start. It’s crazy to see that the yards aren’t painted on the field. Instead, there’s little signs set up to mark the yardage.
Diner
Having milkshakes at the local diner as a teenager was a staple in the 50s. This picture is giving us all the nostalgic feelings. Not to mention those prices on the posters behind the kids!
We love the waitress’s retro uniform, fitted with the little hat. We’re imagining a jukebox in the back softly playing all the hits of the time.
A Lovely Picnic
As a society, we’re not having nearly enough picnics nowadays! This triple date could not look more fun. Everybody is a little dressed up, and they all look so happy!
These three couples are gathered around a table in the great outdoors to have a delicious lunch together. The car tailgate is down and holding the ice chest and a lot of the food.
Gathered Around the TV
In the 1950s, watching television together as a family was an event and a privilege. Here’s a beautiful family all dressed up to watch a black-and-white program together.
The kids and mom are loving the puppet show in the screen. The dad is reading the newspaper, which is also a lost art. What a fun way to relax as a family after a big day together.
The Magic of Christmas Morning
Christmas just isn’t what it used to be. This vintage photo really captures the magic of Christmas with the tree and the train set in the background. These kids are happily ripping into their new toys.
The little one in the white is holding a stuffed rabbit, probably thinking about what to name it. The child in the back is flipping through a book. Not a cellphone in sight.
A 1950s Kitchen
This woman sits proudly in her beautiful 1950s style home. She might not have stainless steel appliances yet, but everything’s spic and span. We’d love to look out of that gorgeous window while we cut vegetables.
Her elegant outfit even matches the color scheme of the room! It’s the little details that really bring this kitchen to life. The baby blue backsplash tiles that have what look to be hand-drawn designs on them add color and whimsy.
Dad's Home!
This beautiful picture captures the feeling of dad coming home from work after a long hard day. Mom and the kids are running to embrace him as he gets out of the car.
They seem like the perfect all-American family. Now it’s time to have a warm meal together around the dinner table and talk about their days. We wonder what's for dinner!
A Brand New Bicycle
Being a kid in the 1950s meant you had a whole lot more freedom than kids do today. You were able to ride your bicycle up and down the street, only coming inside when the streetlights came on.
These kids are standing proudly in front of their shiny new bicycle. We’re sure this brother and sister argued over who got to ride it first! Soon enough, they’ll be trading this bike in for one of those classic cars parked in the back!
Hanging at the Hair Salon
Back in the day there was nothing better than getting your hair done with your bestie. Nowadays, people are stuck sitting silently while they scroll on their phone and avoid talking to anyone.
These beautiful ladies are having a great time gabbing while they wait for their hair to finish drying under those domes. They probably made a day out of going to the salon together and getting pretty for a night out on the town!
Classy Air Travel
In a world filled with sweatpants and Crocs at the airport, it’s hard to believe people actually used to dress up to get on an airplane. Flying wasn’t something to dread. It was an experience.
Here you can see men in long coats and, trousers, and fedoras boarding a plane. They’re also walking on the tarmac, which would never happen today. We wish we could fly with people who appreciate the magic of being in the air.
