21 Famous People Who Don't Think COVID-19 Guidelines Apply to Them

Josh Brolin

Can you blame Josh Brolin for wanting to visit his family during lockdown? Especially considering that his stepmother is Barbra Streisand? I’d absolutely break lockdown to see her and we’re not even related.

Despite the fact that Brolin lives next door to Streisand and his father, James Brolin, people got huffy when he was spotted on Instagram, lounging by the pool, un-distanced from his family. He gave a halfhearted apology, which is probably more than his social media detractors deserve.

Ted Cruz

While Texans are stuck in the great snow storm of 2021—in the midst of a pandemic, mind you—Ted Cruz, a senator from Texas, thought it would be a good idea to jet off to Mexico. After pictures surfaced of him at the airport, he put out a statement about wanting to be a "good dad" to his daughters, who he claims wanted a trip to Mexico with their friends while school was cancelled.

He also changed his flight back home from Saturday to Thursday once the news broke, according to MSNBC. But at least he was wearing a face mask I guess?

Kylie Jenner

As much as I don’t want to say it, Kylie Jenner has done some pretty impressive stuff with her life. She might have started out as just another obnoxious face on Keeping Up With the Kardashians, but at the very least, she’s managed to make herself extremely rich.

And as the rich will so from time to time, Kylie Jenner decided the rules didn’t apply to her. This is why in April she was spotted hanging out with a friend, despite LA’s shelter-in-place order.

Tom Brady

Quarterback Tom Brady makes his living with his body, so it’s not unusual to learn that Brady wanted to keep up his exercise routine, even in lockdown. Unfortunately, he resorted to technically breaking lockdown rules.

Brady was spotted in a closed Tampa park working out in April of 2020. He might have been breaking lockdown rules, but he was also completely alone - so we’re not exactly sure who he was allegedly harming.

Cardi B

All things considered, musician Cardi B hasn’t had the worst 2020. From her still-hilarious coronavirus video at the beginning of the year to her divisive, mid-summer hit, “WAP”, she’s clearly found ways to keep herself busy in lockdown.

Specifically, she spent the end of November hosting friends and family for a massive Thanksgiving party, even though these have been discouraged by authorities. I’m not going to say she did the right thing, but I’m also not going to say that her party didn’t look like a blast.

Gavin Newsom

California governor Gavin Newsom has imposed some of the most onerous lockdown rules in the country on his fellow Californians. I’ll bet you $100 you can guess what happens next.

Of course, he was spotted maskless and non-distanced at a swanky private birthday party in Napa Valley. The only thing less surprising than that was his condescending apology once he was caught.

Nancy Pelosi

Most people have had some serious hair problems during lockdown but none have gotten tangled up more than the US Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. She decided that a DIY haircut was just not going to suffice.

So, she decided to head to a San Francisco salon for a little indoor haircut on August 31st. The only problem? San Francisco salons were shuttered at the time and would only be allowed to resume outdoor hair services on September 1st. Unfortunately for her, security camera footage of her visit was leaked to the press shortly afterwards.

Kim Kardashian

Kim Kardashian operates in her own universe of her own rules. This is not new information. So, it should come as no surprise to know that the reality star and aspiring First Lady decided she’d had enough of lockdown.

That’s why she shipped 30 of her closest friends and family to a private island where she hosted a mask-free, non-distanced bacchanale. Regardless of the ethics of her actions, Kardashian clearly lives by the rule “Go big or go home.”

Steve Adler

As coronavirus cases rose in November of 2020, Austin mayor Steve Adler gave a grim message to his constituents. “We need to stay home if you can. This is not the time to relax. We are going to be looking really closely....We may have to close things down if we are not careful.”

However, it seems that this advice was even too challenging for Adler himself to follow. For you see, the good Mayor did not send this message hunkered down in his Austin home; he sent this grave message from Cabo San Lucas where he was vacationing at his timeshare.

Andrew Cuomo

I don’t know what New Yorkers like about Andrew Cuomo, but it’s a mystery to the rest of the country. That being said, New Yorkers sure hated him once it became clear that he was flouting his own lockdown advice.

Despite telling New Yorkers to stay home for Thanksgiving, Cuomo planned to invite friends and family to his own gathering. Those plans were cancelled (sans apology) once it came to light what he was going to do.

Evangeline Lilly

Evangeline Lilly had harsh (and sometimes misspelled) words for lockdown restrictions when they were first implemented in early 2020. In an instagram caption, Lilly said, "Where we are right now feels a lot too close to Marshall Law for my comfort already, all in the name of a respiratory flu.”

When her fans got angry at her, the Canadian actress doubled down and revealed that both she and her father have compromised immune systems. At least she’s got skin in the game?

'80s superstar Madonna did a little traveling from the UK to New York during the outbreak. The real shocker? She flew days just after she revealed she had tested positive for coronavirus antibodies.

Despite the test, Madonna still managed to make it to photographer Steven Klein’s birthday party, which was live-streamed for anyone to see.

Justin Bieber

I never thought I would be defending Justin Bieber, but the man just wanted to see his family. The Canadian singer had the audacity to want to visit siblings and other relatives, whom he was not previously quarantined with.

Considering some of the outrageous things on this list, this is as close to a non-issue as humanly possible. People have always had an axe to grind about Bieber, and it seems like things are gonna stay that way for a while.

Kendall Jenner

Kendall Jenner found herself getting a little stir crazy. So, to mix things up, she and several friends took a road trip from California to Arizona - the guest list included NBA athlete Devin Booker.

A source told TMZ that the group had all been practicing the same health guidelines before the trip. But people were still unhappy that the group was spotted in public places.

Gordon Ramsay

Despite coronavirus, Gordon Ramsay's son, Jack, managed to graduate from the Royal Marines. And the elder Ramsay technically broke rules to be there.

Ramsay flew from the US to the UK, and was then spotted at the graduation only 24 hours later. However, UK guidelines at the time required people to quarantine for two weeks after travel from the US.

Lori Lightfoot

Chicago mayor Lori Lightfoot told her constituents frankly, “You must cancel the normal Thanksgiving plans,” when cases began to surge in the city. Any guesses as to how long it takes for her to embarrass herself?

If you answered, “literally none,” then you’re a winner! Chicagoans didn’t have to wait any time for Lightfoot’s hypocrisy, because it was already there. Not a week before her somber pronouncement, she was spotted and maskless and non-distanced at a celebration rally for Joe Biden.

Lana Del Rey

Singer Lana Del Rey wasn’t going to let coronavirus stop her tour for her book of poetry, Violet Bent Backwards Over the Grass. So, she arranged a book signing for fans at a Barnes and Noble.

The kicker? She showed up wearing what looked like a very loose mesh mask. Lana claims that there was a plastic lining sew into the mask underneath the glittery mesh, but no one has been able to confirm. Not going to lie, it might be dangerous, but it absolutely looks fabulous.

Rita Ora

British musician Rita Ora wanted something big for her 30th birthday. Unfortunately, that birthday fell right in the middle of coronavirus.

But hey, a girl only turns 30 once, right? That’s probably why she was spotted partying the night away with 30 guests at a restaurant, despite the lockdown rules for the UK.

Kendall Jenner (Again)

Kendall Jenner is not the most egregious corona rule-breaker in the Kardashian clan, but she’s the only one of the bunch who made the list twice! In true family style, she broke the rules by throwing a massive party too.

This time, Jenner was busted hosting her 25th birthday party for 100 friends. Realizing this could give her some bad press, she had a strict no social media policy at the party. However, she didn’t realize that banning social media just made people want to post about it more. Maybe try thinking two steps ahead next time instead of just one.

Dr. “Mike” Mikhail Varshavski

Dr. “Mike” Mikhail Varshavski rose to fame for being “the sexiest doctor alive.” And I’ve got nothing snarky to say about that - I’d take the title in a heartbeat.

Despite publicly urging Americans to mask up when going out, the good doctor was spotted flouting his own rules. Footage was released showing Dr. Mike partying it up on a boat without a mask in sight. If it makes things any better (and it should), at least he was shirtless.

Laurence Fox

British actor Laurence Fox has not been one to mince words about his negative feelings towards lockdown. Are you really surprised that he put those words into action?

In November, Fox tweeted that he had a large group of friends over where they ate and hugged, despite UK restrictions. Never content to let someone else play the fool, Twitter puritans immediately tattled on him to the Metropolitan Police.
