30 Rules the Kardashians Have to Follow While Filming ‘KUWTK’

They’re American royalty, and as such they must follow a very strict set of rules. From the outside looking in, the Kardashians are a glimpse of a near-perfect mix of sisterly drama and stunning beauty. However, behind their beautiful faces and lives is a list of strenuous demands that keeps the show on its toes. As Dolly says, “It costs a lot of money to look this cheap,” meaning what you see doesn’t just happen on its own!

On the surface the show seems like this perfect family effortlessly has it together, but the truth is it’s much more complex than it seems. From strenuous beauty regimens to behind-closed-doors agreements, this is the reality behind one of our favorite (and longest-lasting) reality TV shows. If you like to get the inside scoop or shocking facts about your favorite stars in Hollywood, check out the article we picked just for you at the end of this one!

Rule 1: Kim is totally the most important, get over it.

Rule 1: Kim is totally the most important, get over it.

Kim and Kourtney (but mostly Kim) fall between 50 and 60 percent of the entire family’s contract for the show.

Poor Kylie and Kendall get the leftover scraps. But, it all checks out because they don't appear on the show as often as Kim.

Rule 2: Bible, Kloe is next in line.

Rule 2: Bible, Kloe is next in line.

Even though Kim allegedly makes more than Kloe from the show, her salary is not too shabby. In fact, all of Kris Jenner's daughters make $22.5 million each for 'KUWTK'.

Khloe followed in Kim's footsteps, with her fashion brand Good American, and her net worth is at a whopping $60 million.

Rule 3: Swear to God, NDA’s must be signed.

Rule 3: Swear to God, NDA’s must be signed.

The Kardashians take their privacy very seriously.

So seriously that they make it rain NDA’s when you're lucky enough to be in the same room.

Rule 4: There is a literal stack of NDA’s at Kris’s front door.

Rule 4: There is a literal stack of NDA’s at Kris’s front door.

You get an NDA, you get an NDA, and you get an NDA! Kris has a hefty stack of NDA’s at her front door.

It’s just signing your rights away, just sign it. Right?

Rule 5: You seriously must cover your shoes when you come into Kris's House.

Rule 5: You seriously must cover your shoes when you come into Kris's House.

An article in the New York times revealed that Kris makes production assistants wear shoe protectors in her house.

The reason why is simple, GERMS ARE GROSS!

Rule 6: Kris’s Glam Squad has to be on stand-by every day.

Rule 6: Kris’s Glam Squad has to be on stand-by every day.

Many reality stars also have their own glam squad, but Kris takes it to a whole other level.

Her beauty team always demanded to be on standby. Period.

Rule 7: Kim gets two hours of glam per day, minimum.

Rule 7: Kim gets two hours of glam per day, minimum.

Kim takes her beauty in her own hands, or so she says. She only gets a meager two hours of glam time per day.

She told Paper Magazine, “There’s nothing we can do that’s not documented, so why not look your best and amazing?”

Rule 8: Kris demands Kylie and Kendall to have their nails done weekly.

Rule 8: Kris demands Kylie and Kendall to have their nails done weekly.

Kris can’t have her kids looking a mess! Kylie and Kendall told Elle that their mother would have a nail artist come to their house once a week.

We’re sure that hasn’t changed since then.

Rule 9: Nannies, get zero screen-time.

Rule 9: Nannies, get zero screen-time.

If you’re wondering how the Kardashians have all this time to run amuck and still raise children, here’s your answer. Like any other rich person, they have nannies!

The nannies, however, don’t get any screen time.

Rule 10: Filming is non-stop, for real.

Rule 10: Filming is non-stop, for real.

The Kardashians are basically never off. In fact, the New York Times revealed that Kris had production cameras installed on her ceiling at home!

Smile, you’re on camera!

Rule 11: Filming outside of the home is seriously unreasonable.

Rule 11: Filming outside of the home is seriously unreasonable.

KUWTK is usually filmed in their homes, but every now and then they need to film out in the wild.

Apparently, the New York Times was going to go with Kris to Costco but she cancelled on them by saying “they have to keep up good relations with the businesses where they tape.”

Rule 12: Production doesn’t pay for their vacations, at all.

Rule 12: Production doesn’t pay for their vacations, at all.

Seriously, the Kardashians never get a break, they even have to front the vacations for filming!

Kourtney even bitched about it when she got the tab for their vacation to Costa Rica.

Rule 13: Kim can totally rat you out to production.

Rule 13: Kim can totally rat you out to production.

Usually Kris is the mastermind behind everything drama, but Kim is known to snitch to production when her siblings have their own personal drama going on.

We need to see the drama!

Rule 14: Kris can hire anyone, at any time.

Rule 14: Kris can hire anyone, at any time.

What Kris says, goes. Kris can hire anyone she wants for any reason.

Case in point is French Montana’s run on the show.

Rule 15: Everyone gets paid very well.

Rule 15: Everyone gets paid very well.

KUWTK is literally a cash factory. The show brings in so much money that there is enough to go around.

Even the interns get paid pretty well!

Rule 16: You have to earn the Kardashian’s trust to be on the show.

Rule 16: You have to earn the Kardashian’s trust to be on the show.

Not just anyone can be on the show. You must earn the families trust before they allow you to be on their show.

Maybe that’s why Kanye’s not on the show?

Rule 17: Production can’t show the outside of their real homes.

Rule 17: Production can’t show the outside of their real homes.

This is a lesson they had to learn the hard way. Production can no longer use real footage of the outside of their homes.

In fact, the clips of houses you see on the show are just some random houses!

(Image via Ryan Seacrest Productions/Bunim/Murray Productions/E!)

Rule 18: The inside of their homes is totally fair game.

Rule 18: The inside of their homes is totally fair game.

While the outside shots of their mega-mansions are totally fake, the inside is completely real.

You can literally taste the irony.

Rule 19: The Momager has full creative control of the show.

Rule 19: The Momager has full creative control of the show.

Kris is the mastermind behind anything and everything Kardashian.

So yes, the world does revolve around her.

Rule 20: If Kim looks bad, the footage is cut. No matter what!

Rule 20: If Kim looks bad, the footage is cut. No matter what!

Kim’s gone on the record saying she’ll completely axe footage that she doesn’t look the best in.

No wonder she always looks flawless!

Rule 21: Production reserves the right to shoot on their I-phone.

Rule 21: Production reserves the right to shoot on their I-phone.

If there’s drama unfolding and the production cameras aren’t rolling, anyone can whip out their I-phone and record what’s going on.

They’re just keeping it real!

(Image via Ryan Seacrest Productions/Bunim/Murray Productions/E!)

Rule 22: The fam can edit the show if it’s too real.

Rule 22: The fam can edit the show if it’s too real.

If things get too real, they can totally cut it down.

You can’t tell all your secrets to the world, right?

Rule 23: The crew practically lives with Kris.

Rule 23: The crew practically lives with Kris.

Working for the Kardashians isn’t just a full-time job, it’s an around the clock gig!

The crew practically lives with Kris, just so that they can work on any ideas whenever she is struck with an idea.

Rule 24: Everyone must fake a scene every now and then.

Rule 24: Everyone must fake a scene every now and then.

Lets get real, with any filming there will always be retakes. As perfect as the Kardashians are, they are no exception.

They must be willing to fake the drama for a retake, but keep it seeming authentic. Apparently, they’re actors now too.

(Image via Ryan Seacrest Productions/Bunim/Murray Productions/E!)

Rule 25: But REAL drama is also up for grabs.

Rule 25: But REAL drama is also up for grabs.

Some of the drama may be fabricated, but another drama like Kourtney and Scott’s breakup was totally real.

She told the Hollywood Reporter that breaking up with him on film was the hardest thing she’s ever had to do.

(Image via Ryan Seacrest Productions/Bunim/Murray Productions/E!)

Rule 26: They’re always freakin’ miked.

Rule 26: They’re always freakin’ miked.

In the same interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Kourtney revealed that they’re always miked.

She said in season 1 she had to go to the bathroom to cry quietly and off film just so she wasn’t spied on.

Rule 27: Everyone has to film, but Kanye - because he’s Kanye.

Rule 27: Everyone has to film, but Kanye - because he’s Kanye.

Kanye has made it clear that he’s not on this show, so if you’ve ever wondered why you never see Kim’s husband it’s because he just really doesn’t want anything to do with it!

Kim told the Hollywood Reporter, ““Kanye was like, ‘I’m not a part of the show. That’s not what I do. I have my own career and life.’”

(Image via Ryan Seacrest Productions/Bunim/Murray Productions/E!)

Rule 28: What Kylie wants, she gets.

Rule 28: What Kylie wants, she gets.

Kylie is pretty iconic; I mean she’s absolutely rich and totally gets away with whatever she wants!

Apparently when making an appearance on Ellen, she demanded two VIP parking spaces because she didn’t want to walk to the studio.

(Image via Ryan Seacrest Productions/Bunim/Murray Productions/E!)

Rule 29: They keep drama under wraps, until filming!

Rule 29: They keep drama under wraps, until filming!

Despite all the drama and gossip on the show, the family keeps a lot of things a secret until they start filming.

In fact, Like Kim’s Paris robbery, you won’t hear about it until it airs on the show!

(Image via Ryan Seacrest Productions/Bunim/Murray Productions/E!)

Rule 30: The Kardashians time life-events on purpose.

Rule 30: The Kardashians time life-events on purpose.

Like saving the drama for filming, they also plan major life events so they can film them on the show.

You know, for publicity purposes.
