New movies, shows, and games will be announced at any of the hundreds of cons happening across the globe during the spring and early summer. Not only that, but cons also provide an outlet for another creative hobby to shine: cosplay.

Now, I know a lot of older people or people who aren’t very into the nerdy things associated with cons are probably asking the same thing: what the hell is cosplay? By definition, cosplay is the practice of dressing up as a character from books, TV shows, movies, video games, or animes.

Before anyone starts judging cosplayers, saying that they're ‘too old to play dress up’ or whatever, know that this is something that people of literally every age does. There are two-year-old cosplayers and 80-year-old cosplayers. Cosplay is just an outlet that grants people a chance to be creative and make something they're proud of so they can show it off to a community of other creators.

There are casual cosplayers, the ones who do it just for fun, and then there are these guys. People who have found a way to make gigantic, elaborate, or truly amazing cosplays that range across all areas of geekdom. So, sit back, relax, and take a look at some of these incredible cosplayers who went all out during con season!

Too bad that it was notoriously difficult to maintain on your own at home.
  • When Rihanna debuted her famous red locks in 2010 (around the same time she was featured on Eminem's "Love the Way You Lie"), she started a red-hair trend. Over the next twelve months, she changed her hairstyle 13 times—more than once a month! But that came at a pricey cost. Sources say the annual price tag came out to $1,168,000 on just her hair.
  • Jackie Kennedy is famous for redecorating and renovating the interior of the White House. Actually, on just her first day, she ordered $50,000 in changes for new rooms for the children and upgrades to the kitchen. She later hosted a tour of the White House for CBS News which was viewed by 56 million people and won her an Emmy Award.
