48 Costumes That Turned Heads at Comic Con

Hooters

Hooters

So, we don't know if this woman is cosplaying, but we're assuming she is. And it's an equally hilarious and genius costume all at the same time. On top of the anime-worthy pink wig and the giant gaming headphones, everyone can recognize where she drew her inspiration from. Good one!

We just love to see that even the people who have to work Comic Con get in on the fun! We wonder if this is some form of commentary on misogyny, the patriarchy, or even gatekeeping in the nerdy and cosplay communities...or perhaps she just got off work and didn't have time to change past throwing on a wig.

Princess Leia

Princess Leia

No one will ever beat Carrie Fisher, but this Princess Leia cosplay certainly gives her a run for her money. No wonder she has an armed escort... We wouldn't be surprised if everyone at the convention center wasn't gawking at her throughout the hallways. Not to mention the constant photo ops!

Star Wars is one of history's most popular nerdy film franchises and a popular fandom to cosplay at all types of conventions. There are even dedicated Star Wars conventions for the nerdiest of the nerds. But this picture says it all if you ever needed proof that geeks are just as worthy of attention as jocks.

Albert L. Ortega/Getty Images Entertainment/Getty Images

Daenerys Targaryen

Daenerys Targaryen

She is the Mother of Dragons! The Unburnt! The Queen of Andals! Blah, blah, blah. Once again, no spoilers, but even though the character definitely didn't have the ending she deserved in the series, this cosplayer did her justice. The dragon even looks real. Where in the world did she score that thing?

Half the battle of good cosplay is good makeup skills. If you have no creative talent—we're talking zip, zilch, nada—then it's time to start practicing. Even the most novice of cosplayers can pull off some simple character makeup, but it takes serious talent to achieve this Mother of Dragons look.

Mat Hayward/Getty Images Entertainment/Getty Images

Loki

Loki

We can see why this Loki cosplay made people do a double-take. It also makes us wonder what it would be like if Loki had been a woman instead… Not that it matters at all. Either way, this costume is jaw-dropping, and the creator is totally deserving of endless praise.

Not to give away any spoilers, but we guess the Loki point is moot now after Avengers: Endgame. If you didn't know, the character Loki is inspired by Norse mythology, along with the rest of the Asgardian cast. Loki is known as a trickster god prone to shape-shifting and enacting revenge on his enemies.

Harley Quinn

Harley Quinn

Oh, you thought we were done with our crazed little firecracker? Ha! What a hilarious joke! We told you she was one of the most worn characters ever. Here, it looks like Harley Quinn is getting ready for her wedding day, but hopefully not to that toxic boyfriend of hers.

To be honest, Poison Ivy and even Batman treat Harley Quinn better than The Joker. All that aside, this costume is another example of how creative you can get with cosplay. The incorporation of the cotton-candy red-and-blue colors swirling on the dress and bouquet are ingenious details that we love to see.

Ollie Millington/Getty Images

Scar

Scar

Not everyone has to cosplay as a human, you know. This Scar cosplay proves that. With a little imagination, anything can be possible. Isn't that how Disney comes up with all their characters? Seriously though, the best way to make cosplay your own is to come up with original costume ideas.

Sure, if you want to be the 1,000th Harley Quinn iteration in the arts hall, go right ahead. No one is stopping you, and no one wants to prevent you from achieving your dreams. However, the costumes that get noticed are exceptionally creative ones, even if they're a little niche.

Neilson Barnard/Getty Images Entertainment/Getty Images

Ana

Ana

Every Comic-Con, tons of people dress up as Overwatch characters. One of the best is unequivocally Ana. While she may be a grandma in the game, she has some serious firepower. Also, age doesn't come into play with cosplay. Neither does race, gender, sexual orientation—whatever!

If there's a character you want to cosplay, go for it! The costume-making and convention-attending community is undeniably accepting of everyone. You kind of have to be if you're dressing up as a video game character on the weekend after a long day of professionalism and productive work at the office.

Wonder Woman

Wonder Woman

We've been focusing on the female villains of the comic book world for quite a few slides, so how about we switch gears a little? And if we're going to consider any female comic hero, we have to start with the legend herself. Is there an icon that's stronger than Wonder Woman? Uh, no.

This princess of butt-kicking and bullet-blocking looks especially good. Power pose! Half the battle of pulling off a costume is getting into character. This includes learning their facial expression, iconic poses, and common catchphrases to embody who you're trying to portray. This gal has that down pat.

The Witch of Dathomir

The Witch of Dathomir

Isn't this a sight that could bring anyone to their knees? The Witch of Dathomir, aka a Nightsister, is lying on the cold floor in front of R2D2. We all know (at least, you should know) that R2D2 is the lovably sassy and nonsensical robot from the Star Wars franchise, popping up in nearly every movie.

But what about this mysterious witch character? The Witch of Dathomir is also part of the Star Wars universe, but they don't pop up in the OG films. These witches are force-sensitive natives of the planet Dathomir (get it?) and pop up in plenty of literature and episodes of the hit prequel TV series The Clone Wars.

Albert L. Ortega/Getty Images Entertainment/Getty Images

Fembots

Fembots

Okay, so this one may be a little more obscure, which are honestly some of the best costumes at conventions. Nothing beats seeing that one minor character you loved come to life! As for this costume, remember Austin Powers? Well, you should remember this one, or you seriously need to rewatch the film.

Bring in the FEMBOTS! Certainly one of the most efficient androids we've seen. This feminine squad proves that cosplay isn't merely a solitary activity characterized by sewing until 4 in the morning and crying over your glue gun. No! An entire community of nerds is waiting to collaborate with you on your next amazing idea.

Matt Winkelmeyer/Getty Images Entertainment/Getty Images

Powerpuff Girls

Powerpuff Girls

So this one is straight out of our childhoods. The Powerpuff Girls was our jam, and these girls do them justice. "Wait, weren't there three?" You are correct. You probably noticed there's an extra gal in the squad. The one in yellow is Princess Morbucks, but money can't buy sugar, spice, and everything nice.

The great thing about cosplay is you can reuse costumes for many different occasions. From convention halls to artist alleys, break out that costume you poured months of work and paychecks into for Halloween and random Friday-night costume parties. Everyone deserves to see your craftsmanship brought to life, not just the nerds!

Albert L. Ortega/Getty Images Entertainment/Getty Images

Joker

Joker

If you thought Harley Quinn was cosplayed a lot, take a step to the right and take in the sheer quantity of Joker costumes at any convention, male or female! This Femme Joker has Joaquin Phoenix shaking in his boots. Everything about this cosplay screams suave and classy while also being scary. Tell us a good joke?

After the cinematic disaster that was the original Suicide Squad, DC comic fans were desperate for a new depiction of the Joker that came anywhere close to the raving success of the late Heath Ledger. Joaquin Phoenix to the rescue! The 2019 release of the Joker origin story, appropriately titled Joker, took the world, and the cosplay genre, by storm.

Jun Sato/WireImage/Getty Images

Major Motoko

Major Motoko

You would think that you would have to have a certain type of figure to pull off this cosplay, and it certainly helps for accuracy, but it's not required. This girl is dressed as Major Motoko Kusanagi from Ghost in the Shell.  Say what you will, but she pulled it off (and well).

However, cosplay isn't merely about accuracy. No matter how cheesy the saying is, it's really all about having fun doing what you love and making nerdy memories with friends. A character you want to cosplay might be a few sizes larger or a few sizes too small; no matter what, you can pull off the costume.

Black Cat

Black Cat

Felicia Hardy is a great Marvel character, and we’d love to see a movie about her. Too bad the male superheroes get all the attention. We're seeing some good progress with the release of Wonder Woman, Captain Marvel, and Black Widow! But nothing in the works for our gal Black Cat so far.

For now, we’ll just settle for this cosplayer. Black Cat, AKA Felicia Hardy, has a complicated history as part of the Marvel universe. Sometimes a villain, sometimes a lover, she's best known for her antics alongside Spider-Man and powers of negative tychokinesis, otherwise known as her ability to cast bad luck on others.

Ollie Millington/Getty Images Entertainment/Getty Images

Gandalf

Gandalf

Normally, we wouldn't call Gandalf sexy. Some of y'all might want to interject on that, but have you seen this Grey Wizard? Look at this picture before you speak, and your opinion will either completely change or be confirmed with utmost certainty. Flaunt it if you got it.

Oh, yeah, the Jon Snow looks good too, we guess. But the grey beard, the leotard, the hat? What more could you want for a cheeky Gandalf gag cosplay? As much as there's a culture of seriousness surrounding how well-crafted and accurate your costume is, plenty of people merely want to make people laugh.

Jerod Harris/Getty Images Entertainment/Getty Images

Pikachu

Pikachu

Detective Pikachu, set aside! This cosplay is so great that even Ryan Reynolds was probably blown away (don't worry, we'll explain). Consider us thunderstruck. You have to have heard of Pokemon games and the most famous little creature associated with the franchise, Pikachu, but did you know the little lightning bolt also has a role as a private investigator?

Detective Pikachu is a Nintendo adventure game developed for the Nintendo 3DS handheld gaming systems. It is a spin-off of the Pokémon franchise where players works with a talking Pikachu who has a mysteriously low, serious voice to solve various mysteries.  In 2019, Rob Letterman directed a movie inspired by the original game featuring the voice of, you guessed it, Ryan Reynolds.

Roy Rochlin/Getty Images Entertainment/Getty Images

Bunny Barnes

Bunny Barnes

Bucky is one of the cosplay community's favorite characters, especially within the Marvel comics genre, but this cosplayer took it to a whole new level. Remember what we said about creativity? She's scoring major points for that. This Bunny Barnes certainly had people taking more than one (or two) looks.

Sensuality and cosplay sometimes go hand in hand, which isn't usually the fault (or the intention) of the original creators of the characters, but that's just what happens! Cosplay tends to bring out the confidence in even the most bashful folks, and we all know that anime artists are completely intentional with their depictions.

Jen Azarian/Getty Images for ABA/Getty Images Entertainment

Poison Ivy

Poison Ivy

As if this character needs an introduction, Poison Ivy is the second most-beloved female villain of the DC franchise, specifically the Batman adaptations. We’ve seen a lot of variations of Poison Ivy over the decades, but this one is pretty amazing. She certainly looks better than Uma Thurman did in Batman and Robin.

Poison Ivy AKA Dr. Pamela Lillian Isley, is a favorite to cosplay due to her unique costume. Artists behind the character ditch the leather bodysuits in favor of sensually placed ivy and bare feet, which connect her more to nature. She's an occasional love interest for Batman and Harley Quinn, best known for her misanthropic ideology paired with environmentalist leanings, she uses her master of botany and biochemistry to possess a poisonous touch, an enhanced physique, and control over plant life.

Girls of DC

Girls of DC

What do you do with villains like this? Dress up, of course! Harley Quinn and Catwoman is a pair-up we'd like to see in movies. Batgirl is looking pretty great, too. Comic book villians such as these gals are some of the most popular fictional characters to cosplay, hence the name "Comic Con."

Not all conventions are called "comic" conventions, obviously, but they're heavily inspired by the set up of comic cons. San Diego Comic Con is one of the most well known American conventions, which was first known as the Golden State Comic Book Convention in 1970 and founded by four native Californians, Shel Dorf, Richard Alf, Ken Krueger, and Mike Towry.

Harley Quinn

Harley Quinn

Forget what we said about Harley earlier. Sure, she's overdone. But everyone has such a great take on her and there's a reason she's such a popular character to cosplay. No doubt that Harley Quinn from Suicide Squad was super popular. This girl made us do a double-take because she looks just like Margot Robbie in the film. We wonder if she has voices in her head, too...

Well, we need her voice whispering in our ear on where she gets her amazing wigs! Wigs are a vital part of most serious cosplays because they make a picture come to life. Natural human hair is usually too thin to capture well on camera and you can't expect to have the same haircut of every character you cosplay.

Matt Cowan/Getty Images Entertainment/Getty Images

Arkham Catwoman

Arkham Catwoman

Arkham City is hands down one of the best Batman games in the whole franchise. There's really no arguing this one; personal preference goes out the window with this one, sorry not sorry. And when fans got to play as one of the best characters, Catwoman, we all jumped at the chance.

Not to mention all of us hopping on the trend of desperately wanting to dress as the Arkham Catwoman. Not only is it sleek and sexy, but it's undeniably fierce. Anyone's confidence level probably shoots up 500% once you slip into that leather bodysuit and tote around that terrifying whip.

Neilson Barnard/Getty Images Entertainment/Getty Images

Catwoman

Catwoman

Another one bites the dust (but in a good way). Yeah, needless to say, Catwoman is a cult classic both in terms of the comic book world and the cosplay sphere. The best Catwoman that ever was and ever will be is Michelle Pfeiffer from Batman Returns. Does this cosplay prove our point?

That was a rhetorical question; of course it does! This catwoman costume has dimensionality and character that all the other iterations of this costume simply can't compete with. Plus, constructing and pulling off this costume requires significant skill, time, money, practice, and experience functioning successfully in the comic con world.

Laura Cavanaugh/Getty Images Entertainment/Getty Images

Harley Quinn Classic

Harley Quinn Classic

Dun, dun, dun! Another Harley Quinn is in the books. Like Catwoman, Harley Quinn has had tons of costumes over the years between multiple films, TV spots, and comics. While the Suicide Squad one is apparently everyone's favorite, our personal champion of the competition is the corset costume. Talk about head-turning!

Like we said before, anyone has the potential to pull off any costume as long as they have the confidence and passion to invest in creating something truly transformative. This cosplayer isn't wearing a wig like most others would do, but not everyone has the money for that. Her modeling confidence completely makes up for this lack of resources!

Albert L. Ortega/Getty Images Entertainment/Getty Images

Ahmanet

Ahmanet

Ahmanet -- or better known as the Mummy from the 2017 film of the same name -- is a cosplay only for the brave. If you managed to make it through the film without multiple trips too the powder room, you probably couldn't escape the feeling of really wanting to cosplay as the horrifying character.

The character is literally just covered in scraps of cloth, so no doubt she turned some heads at Comic Con. And it also poses a technical challenge for seamstresses and costume creators. Just because there is less fabric doesn't make the costume any easier to create; if anything, it's harder! You don't want any unfortunate slips while walking casually through the convention center.

Daniel Zuchnik/Getty Images Entertainment/Getty Images

Jinx

Jinx

Jinx from League of Legends is a toughie, from costume to firepower to that giant weapon and hit personality! This high-flyin' crazy girl has huge weapons and is pretty scary when you get down to it. And the woman cosplaying her? Could not have picked a more perfect fit ourselves.

While comic conventions or anime cons sound like they're exclusive to those genres, they're really all about anything nerdy. From cartoons to drama TV and, as featured here, video games, geeky conventions cover all the bases. This cosplayer was inspired enough by the game League of Legends AKA League that she spent an ungodly amount of time making her favorite fighter come to life.

Matt Cowan/Getty Images Entertainment/Getty Images

Elvira

Elvira

Elvira is a classic that anyone can get behind and thousands of people long to meet every year. Considering the original Elvira goes to so many conventions (especially Comic Con), it's the perfect place to meet your idol. That makeup is ah-may-zing. And you can't miss those stiletto nails or higher-than-the-heavens hairdo!

Cassandra Peterson, American actress, writer and singer, is popularly  known for her portrayal of the horror hostess character "Elvira, Mistress of the Dark." She gained fame for the persona on L.A. netword KHJ-TV for wearing the iconic wearing busty, tight-fighting, black gown as a host of Elvira's Movie Macabre. And the rest is history!

Lollipop Chainsaw

Lollipop Chainsaw

Lollipop Chainsaw wasn’t the best game out there, but it also wasn’t the worst. It was fun, and that’s exactly what this person had in mind when they were designing this cosplay. Who wouldn't want to dress up as a bodacious blonde wearing a breezy cheerleading uniform and a GIANT chainsaw for keeping your enemies in check?

The beautiful thing about cosplay is that even if the series or game you're inspired by isn't that great, you can still have a ton of fun and make friends with your costume. Whether it's through mutual hate for how the series ended up or a shared guilty pleasure for the mediocre gaming experience, nothing is off limits. And we mean nothing.

Daniel Zuchnik/Getty Images Entertainment/Getty Images

Mercy

Mercy

Another jaw-dropping Overwatch character for the books, Mercy is the game's primary healer. A healer is just what we need right now, for just about everyone, if you catch our drift.  As the most healing-oriented member of the Overwatch clan, she's an invaluable support character for any online game rivalry.

On top of her angelic appearance, beautiful blonde hair, and pink outfit that's to die for, Mercy's abilities are numerous and highly  coveted.  She may be a passive character rather one who's always in on the action, but the shoot-em-up folks need some support sometimes. From health regeneration to complete resurrection, Mercy shouldn't be underestimated.

Ollie Millington/Getty Images

Domino

Domino

Not everyone loved the new Domino, but we adored her. Everything's a matter of opinion, and if this confident lady had listened to the critiques of others, we wouldn't be blessed by her amazing costuming skills. That's why we wanted to include this amazing cosplay. Girl, you deserve the grand prize!

Domino AKA Neena Thurman is another Marvel-based character who originated as part of the Wild Pack team, yet is best known for her appearance. Because she's a mutant, she has her own unique abilities, including the ability to manipulate probability in her favor that gives her incredible luck.

Quinn P. Smith/Getty Images Entertainment/Getty Images

Zero Two

Zero Two

Zero Two is probably one of the most popular anime characters out there, so she had to be included on the list. This cosplay is brave and outstanding – complete with tall stilettos! Female fictional characters -- especially those originating in comic books or anime -- are usually dressed in gravity-defying outfits, but that doesn't stop passionate cosplayers.

Zero Two is a main character in the anime DARLING of the series FRANXX. On top of being apart of a human race with klaxosaur blood, she is an elite pilot. Many people love Zero Two for her alluring personality, fun long pastel pink hair, and pair of red horns on her head.

The Queen and Her Raven

The Queen and Her Raven

Just another Disney cosplay? Not a bad guess, but you lose this guessing game! This group cosplay is the Evil Queen and Raven. Yes, they were adapted by Disney into original characters, but these two are cosplaying the original German tales in all their creepy glory with just a tad of Disney inspiration.

From period-accurate costumes, braided wigs, ornate crowns, and a poison apple to top it off, cosplays on the source material for many modern children's fairy tales make elevate costumes from child's play to seriously fun and mature cosplay. If you love Disney but want to avoid clichés, take a page from these women's storybooks!

Spider Gwen

Spider Gwen

With the release of Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse, Spider Gwen has gotten a lot more attention, fortunately for fans of the comics who desperately wanted to see her appear on screen. She’s a great character and totally deserves the spot light. Who knows, maybe we’ll see her in her own film soon!

Yes, that's a hint, Marvel Studios. Plus, fans are so desperate for more female hero representation that even if the film is terrible, we'll still buy it and rewatch it religiously. That's not an excuse to do a bad job, however. But if it turns out anything like Harley Quinn from Suicide Squad, it'll be a worthy pursuit regardless.

Sean Harris/Getty Images for ABA/Getty Images Entertainment

Robin Buckley and Demogorgon

Robin Buckley and Demogorgon

One of the most beloved characters from Season 3 of Netflix's original scarily supernatural series Stranger Things is Robin Buckley, who is pictured here next to the show's terrifying plant-lizard monster. Now, it's been a while since we've seen that season, but we are pretty sure they aren't supposed to be friends.

We aren't sticklers for accuracy or anything. Just look back through this slideshow and you'll see how much we appreciate creativity. If anything, this is one of the cutest renditions of a horrifying source material we've ever seen. The little Demogorgon, we admit, is much cuter than the show's. But we still wouldn't get too close... just in case.

Steampunk Batman

Steampunk Batman

When you are looking to create a unique version of your favorite character, steampunk is always sure to work. And this one is particularly cool – because it's Batman! Why be yourself, when you can be Batman? And why be regular, old Batman, when you can be futuristic steampunk Batman?

Steampunk is a subgenre of science fiction characterized by retrofuturism that blends technology and aesthetics to create a world of 19th-century inspired steam-powered machinery. As evidenced by this dedicated steampunk Batman cosplay, you can incorporate steampunk elements in any capacity to your costume. This person just added the iconic goggles, but you may taken on the whole shebang. The possibilities are endless!

Daniel Knighton/Getty Images

Steampunk Catwoman

Steampunk Catwoman

Hey, we did warn you. The possibilities are infinitely endless. Repetitive? Yes, but we have to get the concept through your head. Every good Batman costume has to have a complementary Catwoman costume and this one is it. That mustache on Batman though feels like it's going to give away his identity. Just saying.

The steampunk fans incorporated the brassy and technological aesthetics through meticulous detailing rather than "in your face" pieces of complicated machinery. For instance, take a look at Batman's cape. What is usually made of a leather material has been painted and designed to resemble a heavy metal material. Practical? Probably not, but definitely aesthetically appropriate.

Albert L. Ortega/Getty Images

Hawkman

Hawkman

This costume is a little hard to miss for multiple reason. I mean, it's totally outlandish. He looks like he's about to fly off at any minute–back to wherever he came from. From the bright green tights to the zebra-striped wings and giant...scepter?...There's nothing subtle about his guy.

Hawkman AKA human archaeologist Carter Hall is a DC originated comic book character and is actually the name for many different iterations of DC heroes. Every version of the bird-like character has common aesthetic elements, including archaic weapons and large, artificial wings attached to a harness. The character has appeared in multiple screen adaptations such as Justice League Unlimited and a few DC animated originals.

Albert L. Ortega/Getty Images

Watchdog

Watchdog

Wow, this costume is incredible. Look how life-like it is! He almost looks like a real dog. Or maybe it is a real dog? Nah… It couldn't be... There are so many amazing, talented, unmatched cosplayers out there that we would not be shocked if someone actually handcrafted this dog themselves with a mix of robotics and a creative hand.

Funny costumes are some of our favorites, and this creative twist on what it means to be a cosplayer or costume maker. Also, not all cosplays have to be inspired by existing medio. For instance, lots of people dress up as OCs (Original Characters) they've created for themselves through writing or Dungeons and Dragons. This watchdog, Luna, is simply rocking her style. Talk about a hip pit!

Daniel Knighton/Getty Images

Children of the Forest

Children of the Forest

These creepy kids aren't actually kids at all, as you can see. Hopefully, they aren't planning to summon any ice zombies this time around. They seem to be a bit preoccupied with their devices, so we are probably safe. What was that? You're mesmerized by their mind-blowing makeup and costuming abilities? Uh, duh.

Children of the Forest originated from the Game of Thrones franchise, of which you first hear of them in Season 2 of the show or book 2 (A Clash of Kings) if you're a true fan. Just kidding, those books are huge, so we don't blame you for skipping them for the TV show. However, we do recommend waiting for the release of the last books to get a better ending.

Daniel Zuchnik/Getty Images

Moon Knight

Moon Knight

Moon Knight is a comic book character from Marvel comics (we know, big surprise!) and if you don't remember the movie for this guy because there are so many of them, that's probably because it hasn't come out yet. But this one's all ready to combat the plague. *Ahem* You're late.

Like we said, Moon Knight AKA Marc Spector originated in the Marvel comics Werewolf by Night and is constantly compared to the DC Batman comics. Why? They're both millionaires, entrepreneurs, and like to get dressed up in funky costumes to embody their secret hero alter-ego by night. Being rich has never been so fun.

Daniel Knighton/Getty Images

Dude Vader

Dude Vader

Dude Vader is some strange steampunk samurai…thing. We really have to words that will adequately explain what we both are looking at right now. There's really a lot going on here, but people seem to enjoy it and have the resources to go over the top. May the force be with him, or whatever.

Dude Vader describes themselves as a charity cosplayer on their Facebook page, and he was pictured not long ago with the San Diego Star Wars Society at the San Diego Blood Bank for a "May the Fourth Be With You" blood drive. Did Captain America happen to be there, too? These people seriously make us want to give blood...

Daniel Knighton/Getty Images

Corpse Bride and Mandalorian

Corpse Bride and Mandalorian

This happy couple doesn't seem to have much in common, but that doesn't seem to stop them from having a good time. Embrace your differences. This is the way! We'd love to see them as the face of a dating website, like eHarmony with the headline "Opposites Attract" or something like that. Hey, we'd click on it.

The Corpse Bride is a 2005 Tim Burton-directed film, so you can guess that the plot entails a muted color palette, creepy Claymation, and anything that gives you the heebie jeebies. The Manalorian, however, is a Star Wars spin-off TV series featured on Disney+ that follows a bounty hunter and the adorable "Child" referred to as Baby Yoda. If it works, it works.

Danny Lawson/PA Images via Getty Images

Wolverine

Wolverine

Last, but certainly not least, is the iconic Wolverine. Wolverine is long gone in the film series (spoilers), but some people haven't moved on. He lives on now in the world of cosplay for people who aspire to be grumpy superheroes, which make up a larger part of the cosplay community than you may realize.

We don't expect you to be living under a rock, but Wolverine AKA Logan or Weapon X is a Marvel Comics original character part of the mutant X-Men clan. This character is most popularly portrayed by the actor Hugh Jackman in the live-action X-Men films and associated The Wolverine movies.

Laurent Viteur/Getty Images

Black Panther

Black Panther

Black Panther has become one of the most inspiring superheroes for a new generation for plenty of exceptionally valid reason. Expect to see a lot more costumes like these with plenty of interpretations in the coming years. We can't wait to see a steampunk Shuri strutting her stuff. Wakanda forever!

If you are one of the last people on Earth who doesn't know what Black Panther is about, let us give you a little rundown. Originating as a comic book character from Marvel, the 2018 film extends the narrative of Captain America: Civil War (2016) to focus on T'Challa, heir to the hidden and technologically advanced kingdom of Wakanda.

Roy Rochlin/Getty Images

Big Sister

Big Sister

The Big Sister from the cult horror video game series BioShock is one of the creepiest of creepy things in the plot's entirety. We  hope this real-life rendition isn't planning on extracting anything from anyone's corpse, but we haven't heard her say otherwise, so that's probably not a good sign.

The BioShock franchise has its roots in the 2007 FPS (first-person shooter) game of the same name developed by 2K Boston and 2K Australia. Players follow the protagonist Jack after an freak airplane crash into the ocean, eventually leading him to the dystopian underwater city Rapture. Where the city was supposed to be an engineering marvel of architecture and bio-genetics quickly spiraled out of control and created zombie-like enemies.

Iron Warrior

Iron Warrior

If you don't know who this character is – well – we don't really know either. And while he looks pretty tough with all that super thick, chain-linked armor. But what's hilarious is that you never know what could be lurking underneath. It could just be some cats stacked on top of each other.

One of the most popular subgenre's in the cosplay community are those who hand craft suits of armor. No, they typically aren't welders or iron workers of any kind, but instead are masters of foam and the overpowered sculpting material called Worbla thermoplastic. If you're looking for some PVC foam to line the floors of your office, these cosplayers probably already wiped it out.

Mike Marsland/Mike Marsland/WireImage

Anck-su-namun

Anck-su-namun

If you remember the late '90s version of The Mummy you probably remember this costume –- at least, what little of it is actually there. This isn't the same mummy as the horrifying rendition we talked about earlier, but is instead the Egyptian love interest of the films primary antagonist.

Honestly, it took a couple double-takes for us to realize that this picture was not a still from the movie or film set. This cosplayer deserves series props for her skill. We're talking covers of magazines, social media promos, the whole deal. If we don't see that happening anytime soon, we're calling out some foul play.

Ollie Millington/Getty Images

Scarecrow

Scarecrow

Aw, we love the scarecrow from The Wizard of Oz! So lovable and dumb, and such a good companion for Dorothy! Oh, wait, that's not Ray Bolger... This Scarecrow cosplay from the Batman Arkham games is truly something out of a nightmare -- or it's just someone's quarantine outfit -- a dream very different from Dorothy's trip to see The Wizard.

Scarecrow AKA Dr. Jonathan Crane is a long-standing antagonist opposite Batman. Ever noticed how many doctors and millionaires turn evil in Gotham? All those years in grad school for nothing! Well, in the eyes of Dr. Crane, his evil methods are his own form of medical research. The psychologist dubs himself the "Master of Fear" as he uses toxins and unethical psychology to exploit the fears and phobias of his victims and enemies.

Ollie Millington/WireImage

Iron Woman

Iron Woman

Who says Iron Man has to be a man? Much like the debate on deities and that iconic Ariana Grande song, cosplayers around the world are manipulating the gender of their favorite overpowered humans to better fit their own style. Iron Woman spells out a perfect sequel opportunity, if you ask us.

In fact, if you've kept up with Marvel comics lore or caught Pepper Potts in her own suit of armor in Endgame, you know there's already some existing iron women in the universe other than Margaret Thatcher. For example, Ironheart AKA Riri Williams is a young female super-genius who developed her own version of the Iron Man armor. You can follow her adventures in the Invincible Iron Man comics.
