5 'Walking Dead' Deaths That Left Us Feeling (Un)Dead Inside

The Walking Dead  isn’t shy about making you become attached to a character and then shamelessly killing him or her off. When this happens, you just can’t help but enter the grieving process! Here are the five deaths that left us utterly and completely depressed. (Spoilers through season six!)

5. Sophia

The first real depressing scene in the entire series was Sophia’s death. Death of children within the show is hard, but Sophia? We became attached to her very quickly and we saw how the other characters looked out for her. Daryl spent days looking for the little girl. Then there was the dreaded barn scene. When we thought all the walkers were dead, Sophie came staggering out as a walker. No one could shoot her, and we felt the pain of the characters. Carol wailed, and we cried with her.

4. Dale

Before Hershel, Dale was the one that looked after the group. He was our grandfather and he made sure everyone was alright. So when he died in the middle of the night in season two, we were left dumbfounded and broken. For a while, he held his own against a walker, but this edge-of-your-seat death upset thousands of fans. We weren’t sure what to do after his demise, but we knew things wouldn’t be the same.

3. Hershel

Hershel had gone through a lot of difficulties since the start of the apocalypse. He lost most of his family, his leg, and then was ultimately captured by the Governor. We knew things weren’t going to end well, but when the Governor killed Hershel, we were left speechless. We loved him. Hershel was like our grandfather. The fact that the Governor killed him with Michonne’s sword only hurt us more.

2. Lizzie and Mika

Lizzie and Mika were two huge shocking deaths within the episode. Carol, Tyreese, and the whole audience was left watching the scene unfold. It broke our hearts watching two beloved children die in the show. The fact that it came out of nowhere was the real hardship. Carol was forced to kill a living person, which helped her character development but left the death of these two girls etched in our minds.

1. Whoever Negan Kills.

One of our most beloved characters of the show may have died in the finale of season six. “May have“ are the worst words in that sentence. Negan's disturbing game of "Eeny meeny miny moe" may have landed on a minor character, which would still make us sad, but realistically a fan favorite's face may have been Lucille's target. The Walking Dead is notorious for making us believe characters are dead. It’s the not knowing that is, in a word, killing us. Show us and let us go on with the grieving process.
