We promise a front-row seat to the glamour, creativity, and occasional fashion misses that defined this unforgettable night. Join us as we dissect the best and worst dressed moments, celebrating the triumphs and acknowledging the fashion risks that made the 2024 Oscars a captivating showcase.

Best: Margot Robbie

Best: Margot Robbie

Margot Robbie in Versace was a highlight of the night. Her dress truly looks like it was sculpted for her body, beautifully highlighting her figure without being too revealing.

The shimmery black dress was strapless with fabric pooling ever so slightly below her waist. It was formfitting up top to give her an hourglass figure before falling delicately to the ground. When you look like this in black, who needs to wear Barbie pink?

Worst: Andrea Riseborough

Worst: Andrea Riseborough

Andrea Riseborough wore a long-sleeved Loewe gown that just screamed like a picnic blanket. Of all the colors and patterns in the world, this dress was plaid.

Not only did Riseborough choose to wear plaid to the Academy Awards, but the pattern also became blurry at her waist before transitioning into fully black for the bottom of the skirt. The gown is loud and in your face in the worst way possible.

Best: Ryan Gosling

Best: Ryan Gosling

Not only did we see our lovely Stereotypical Barbie tonight, but we got the stunning Ken as well! Ryan Gosling wore a black Gucci suit. The suit and the matching button-down had a shimmery trim.

Although they weren’t together, Gosling’s suit matched his Barbie co-star Margot Robbie’s dress quite well. The outfit couldn’t prepare us for Gosling’s later iconic performance of “I’m Just Ken” that rocked the Oscars stage.

Worst: Dwayne Johnson

Worst: Dwayne Johnson

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s metallic silver Dolce & Gabbana suit looked nothing short of… wrinkly. Seriously, someone get this man an ironing board.

Although the suit fit well, it truly did nothing for Johnson. The undershirt was only buttoned at the very button, allowing his chest to show through. Not even that could save this look.

Best: Emma Stone

Best: Emma Stone

We’ve seen plenty of interesting-shaped dresses in Oscars history, but nobody has pulled it off quite as well as Emma Stone. She wore a custom Louis Vuitton dress paired with high jewelry. The dress was strapless, and the top flared into a structured peplum skirt at her waist.

Stone went on to win the Oscar for Best Actress for her work in Poor Things. In her acceptance speech, she revealed that she had broken the zipper of the dress while dancing to Ryan Gosling’s performance of “I’m Just Ken.” Not to worry, though—she was sewn back into it quickly!

Worst: Erika Alexander

Worst: Erika Alexander

Truthfully, Erika Alexander’s gown had the potential to be one of the best if only it didn’t have the dreadful tulle overskirt. The strapless white dress paired with the long black gloves had so much potential.

The Christian Siriano gown with the sheer overskirt looks unfinished, but we’re not sure we’d want to see it finished. The top of the skirt was a sheer black tulle, while the bottom was a gradient purple to pink to green patch of ruffles. It looks like a child’s drawing come to life.

Best: Lupita Nyong'o

Best: Lupita Nyong'o

Lupita Nyong’o wore an icy blue Giorgio Armani Privé dress fit with sequins, sparkles, and feathers galore! The form-fitting dress had feathers trailing down at her waist, and the bottom of the gown, and it gave a fun touch to this elegant ensemble.

The gown was a nod to the dress Nyong’o wore to the 2014 Oscars, where she won her first Academy Award for her work in 12 Years a Slave. We love a woman willing to celebrate herself and her accomplishments.

Worst: Willem Dafoe

Worst: Willem Dafoe

Willem Dafoe is an iconic actor, but his Prada suit was an absolute let-down. The black suit looked as if it was taken right off the rack at a Men’s Warehouse.

The only word that comes to mind when looking at Dafoe’s outfit for the night is “frumpy.” There’s no way the suit fit correctly, with the suit jacket swallowing him.

Best: Leah Lewis

Best: Leah Lewis

Leah Lewis looked like she was walking in a delicate, blown glass dress. Although the color was somewhat similar to a flamingo, the structure of the dress should go down in history.

The gown was a high-low dress, showing off her legs and clear heels. The fabric accentuated her shoulders before it gathered and flowed down to a sheer train. This dress is a cotton candy dream!

Worst: Melissa McCarthy

Worst: Melissa McCarthy

Melissa McCarthy wore a Christian Siriano gown to the 96th annual Academy Awards. The base figure-hugging red dress oozed elegance, but it was the pink on top of it that made it one of the worst outfits of the night.

The puffy pink fabric was worn almost as a cape and obscured the dress underneath. It felt completely unnecessary to the outfit like it was sewn on as a last-ditch effort to make it more unique.

Best: Florence Pugh

Best: Florence Pugh

Florence Pugh attended the 96th annual Academy Awards in a silver Del Core gown. The sculpted sheer bodice was covered in beading similar to water drops, giving her a soft, dewy look.

Her gown had gravity-defying floating straps that never touched her shoulders. We think this may be just the beginning of a new fashion trend, as Pugh looked ethereal.

Worst: Julianne Hough

Worst: Julianne Hough

Julianne Hough wore Alexandre Vauthier on the red carpet, much to our dismay. Was this a jumpsuit or a fitted sheet? We’re still unsure.

The jumpsuit had a gold and silver metallic bodice that attached to pantlegs so wide that many believed that Hough was actually wearing a gown. She looked like she had fun revealing that the outfit was, in fact, a jumpsuit, not a gown, though, so we’re glad she had a good time.

Best: Simu Liu

Best: Simu Liu

Surprise, surprise, another Ken is one of the best dressed! Barbie actor Simu Liu wore a Fendi suit paired with a Jacob & Co. watch and De Beers jewelry.

His black suit jacket was held together with a beautiful silver broach. His monochromatic outfit matched beautifully with his girlfriend Allison Hsu, who he walked the red carpet with, in her all-white ensemble.

Worst: Mary Steenburgen

Worst: Mary Steenburgen

Mary Steenburgen wore a sleeveless, black Tom Ford gown. Everything about the dress was classic except for the giant… buckle? Steenburgen’s dress somehow managed to look pilgrim-esque while being strapless. Impressive.

The belt and giant gold belt buckle holding up the dress was a completely unnecessary touch that ruined the outfit. We’re truly not sure what the designer was thinking with this detail.

Worst: Ariana Grande

Worst: Ariana Grande

Ariana Grande wore a custom Giambattista Valli Haute Couture gown with Tiffany & Co. jewelry. The matching pink diamond necklace and dangling earrings were elegant and understated. The dress, however? Not so much.

Grande’s It was supposed to be a nod to her character Glinda, the good witch, in the upcoming movie Wicked. Instead, it looked more like a wrinkled bed comforter than anything else.
