Bride Sets 12 Strict Rules That Divide Guests—and Online Opinions

The Wedding Rules

The Wedding Rules

To explain the rules, the viral bride (and TikToker) made a video that explained each rule.

The videos were in two parts and included a little bit of explanation.

The idea was a bit of a trend, and she wanted to jump on board.

Who knew that it would end up with several publications telling her story?

The rules are as follows:

1. No kids (some exceptions)

Jasmine Cruz starts off hot saying “because everybody gets mad about this one.”

The reason is understandable, in our opinion.

“I don’t want kids running around unattended, their parents not watching.”

The exception? Her siblings are under 15, so they’re naturally coming.

The exceptions also include out-of-towners that cannot secure childcare during the wedding.

2. Don’t wear white

This one is sort of understandable, but what really riled people up was what she said.

“My bridesmaids have specific instructions already to dump a whole bottle of red wine on you.”

Can’t say she didn’t warn them though…

3. Bridesmaids can pick their outfit, just match color

Anyone who’s been a bridesmaid will tell you that it’s probably a dress you’ll wear once (and you may not look that great in it).

Giving bridesmaids the opportunity to pick their outfit is amazing.

The best part? Jasmine Cruz didn’t care whether they wore pants, dress, or whatever.

Of course, there’s a caveat with this one…

Cruz stated that she has to approve the outfit and see it first to make sure “it flows well.”

“They can wear whatever they want basically”

4. No one else wears white

Cruz admits that it being on the rule list twice is a mistake, but it also “sends the message.”

People in the comments rooted for her, saying they could spray tie-dye on the guests who wore white instead of dumping wine on them.

5. If you weren’t invited, you’re not welcome

Not everyone gets the same amount of “plus ones.” Plain and simple.

Cruz stated, “don’t be bringing random people to my wedding.”

At first, this seems like a little much, but in a FAQ, she goes into a little more detail.

Turns out she allotted for around $100 per head.

While that’s less than average, weddings are expensive, especially if you’re paying for it yourself.

As Cruz stated it eloquently, “You wouldn’t go buy just some random person a $100 meal.”

During the FAQ, she also said she’s paying for 200 guests.

That’s $20,000 just for the guests alone!

6. No garter

We’re totally on board with this one – we’re not gonna beat around the bush there.

The garter toss is an old tradition that’s worn out its welcome.

Cruz stated, “You want him to go under my dress and pretend [gagging noises]. No.”

No shame there.

7. Bridesmaids are all :rainbow emoji:

The rainbow emoji means one thing: all her bridesmaids are part of the LGBTQ community.

Later during her FAQ, she also admitted that adding silly rules was a trend, so she threw this one in.

8. My mom has creative say over everything

“Day of the wedding, I don’t want everybody bothering me with like, where do you want this, where do you want that.”

“Ask my mom. My mom has full creative liberty over everything.”

“She designed my quinceañera and she made it [chef’s kiss].”

“And we have been going back and forth about day-of stuff and she’s on the nose. She’s great.”

We get it, but also seems a little strict?

Not sure. What are your thoughts?

9. Take advantage of open bar

Okay, we absolutely love this one. Who doesn’t love an open bar at a wedding?

Cruz explained, “We spent so much money for an open bar. Please, take advantage of it. I want you drunk. I want you wasted.”

That leads onto the next rule, which is super important.

10. No drunk drivers

Pretty clear, right? Responsible. We love to see it.

“You guys can leave your cars there until the next morning, thank you to my venue for that.”

“No drunk drivers. You will be drinking responsibly. But if you’re not driving, we’re getting wasted.”

11. Vendors get treated as guests when they take breaks

One of the biggest mistakes bridezillas make is that they treat their vendors like slaves.

Heck, some of them have a hard time getting paid.

That means, for us, this rule is pretty great.

We’ve heard about some pretty horrible stuff.

Cruz stated, “They can eat, they can drink. Obviously don’t get too wasted until the job is done.”

“But if you’re on a break or when the job is done, feel free to drink as much as you want.”

“Feel free to take home the centerpiece if you want. You are a guest.”

Later with an interview with Insider, she explained why this rule is in place.

A lot of her friends were hired for the wedding, and she wanted them to enjoy themselves.

“I am reserving seats for them [her vendor friends] as well…I just want everyone to be comfortable, happy, and have fun.”

12. No big announcements

“No. If you’re pregnant. Keep it to yourself. If you wanna propose. Keep that to yourself.”

“Do not come to my wedding day taking the attention away from me and my man.”

“You will be tackled. My bridesmaids – um – you don’t wanna mess with them. They’re scary.”

And the Story Caught on Everywhere

And the Story Caught on Everywhere

Cruz went viral after posing these rules, and she was more than happy to explain a little more.

At the time of writing this, the videos combined have over 450,000 views.

There are also over 3,000 comments of people supporting or complaining!

The story was picked up by countless publications online.

Some the biggest include: Insider, Yahoo News, and DailyMail.

It even reached as far as Australia!

Naturally, Jasmine Cruz was pretty shocked that her story was so interesting to the world.

She made a video explaining that she had been messaged directly through the app, asking for interviews.

Welp, why not do an interview or two?

During an interview with Insider, she explained, “We don’t have the biggest budget.”

“We’re just trying our best to keep everything local and also as inexpensive as we can, but still having our dream wedding.”

The couple have been together for 10 years, and they wanted to celebrate it with everyone they loved.

The wedding is set to take place in September 2021.
