Cher: 10 Accomplishments That Prove Age Is Just a Number

1. 'Stuck on You'

1. 'Stuck on You'

Many people have trouble laughing at themselves, but Cher certainly does not. In the 2003 comedy film, Stuck on You, Cher plays herself and mocks her own public image whilst in bed with a younger lover. Cher also sang her song "Human" for the film, and while the film itself was not a huge hit, critics and fans alike raved about her performance.

In 2010, Cher and Christina Aguilera starred in this Golden Globe-nominated musical that became a huge hit across the globe, grossing over $110 million. The almost cliche storyline of a small-town girl trying to make it in LA would not have been so successful if it hadn’t been for Cher and Christina’s performances that brought new life to this age-old story.

Also in 2002, Cher announced that she would be embarking on the last tour of her career. This historical tour became the single most successful tour by a woman in music history. Over 2.2 million fans saw her perform! Cher has long been paving the way for women in a male-dominated industry, so it's fitting that she holds this high honor.

In 2008, Cher took up a three-year performance residency at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas. Performing at a casino may not sound like much compared to some of her other accomplishments, but considering that she pulled in $60 million a year for this gig and got to perform with some of the best dancers and aerialists in the world, it was certainly something special.

One of Cher’s songs from Burlesque, “You Haven’t Seen the Last of Me,” became a great success in its own right. This song won the Golden Globe for Best Original Song, and it reached #1 on Billboard’s Dance Club Songs chart, making Cher the only artist in history to have a number-one single on a Billboard chart in every single decade from the 1960s until now.

In 2013, Cher dove headfirst into the world of documentary filmmaking by producing a heartfelt documentary about her mother, Georgia Holt. This show of love towards her mother went on to win the Women’s Image Network Award for Outstanding Documentary Film and featured a duet between Cher and Georgia that will never be forgotten.

Almost a decade after Cher said she was done with touring, she surprised fans with the announcement that she would be embarking on yet another tour. The first leg of the show was very successful and had 49 sold-out shows in North America! Unfortunately, Cher fell ill before she could finish the tour, but that doesn’t take away from how amazing her (possibly) final tour was.

At the 2002 Dance Club Music Awards, Cher was thrilled to win Dance/Club Play Artist of the Year, but that night was made even sweeter when Cher was presented with the Artist Achievement Award by none other than Steven Tyler. This prestigious accolade has only been awarded to seven people in history, including Madonna and Janet Jackson.

9. The Face of Marc Jacobs

Most of the time, younger models and actresses are featured as the faces of different companies. Well in 2015, Cher broke that stereotype by appearing as the face of Marc Jacobs for the brand’s fall/winter advertising campaign. Cher said of this accomplishment, “This has been a dream of mine for a very, very long time.”

Cher is currently working on a Broadway musical about her life, which she has slowly given hints about since 2012. She has said that three different actresses will play her during different stages of her life, and she herself may appear as a fourth version who gives advice to the younger ones. We can’t wait to watch!
