'Fear The Walking Dead' Confirmed and Coming for You

As of March 9th, AMC has given a two season commitment to The Walking Dead’s spin-off series: Fear The Walking Dead. The pilot is set to air at some point in 2015. As far as release dates are concerned, that’s all we know. There’s still quite a bit we don’t know about the show itself, but the details that have been confirmed reveal that it will be quite different.

For starters, it’s in Los Angeles. The original series had a good deal of its first season set in Atlanta, but since then, the survivors have avoided big cities. As a distant viewer, it will be refreshing to see some of that classic big-city chaos again. After the details of the new setting were released, Joshua Yehl and Chris Carle from IGN dug into the potential that this change of scenery could have in terms of affecting the show.

The series will start as somewhat of a prequel. Apparently, we’ll get to see the time just after the outbreak—the time Rick spent comatose at the beginning of the original series. It’s also been said that though it may start as a prequel it will eventually catch up with the original.

How much they add to one another is yet to be fully determined. The overlap, however, will be minimal, with the spin-off having only “six seconds that reference the mothership. Six seconds,” according to executive producer David Alpert. He added: “As far as references and things, there will only be a few Easter eggs—and those six seconds.”
