Female Olympians To Keep Track of at the 2024 Games

The 2024 Olympics in Paris are set to be the first ever with an equal number of male and female athletes. This means there will be 50% female athletes and 50% male athletes competing for medals. This is a significant milestone for gender equality in sports.

Women were not allowed to compete at the first modern Olympic Games in 1896 held in Athens. The prevailing attitude at the time was that athletic competition wasn't suitable for women. However, women were finally allowed to participate in the 1900 Paris Games. However, they were only allowed to participate in a limited capacity. Just 22 women competed out of over 1,200 athletes, and only in a handful of sports considered appropriate for them at the time. The 5 sports in which they could compete were tennis, sailing, croquet, equestrianism, and golf.

These are some of the women who have qualified to participate in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris and are considered among the best athletes in the world.
