Harry Potter Actors: Where Are They Now?

Rupert Grint/Ron Weasley (Then)

Rupert Grint/Ron Weasley (Then)

With red hair and a hand-me-down robe, Rupert played one of the most adored, loyal characters in the series: Ron. He was definitely an adorable kiddo, especially when he was playing giant games of life-or-death chess, defeating a mountain troll, and (very) begrudgingly following the spiders into the Forbidden Forest with Harry.

Since his Harry Potter days, Grint has had plenty to keep him busy--including multiple movie appearances and a recurring role on a TV series. He also became a father after the birth of his first child in May 2020.

Devon Murray/Seamus Finnigan (Then)

Devon Murray/Seamus Finnigan (Then)

Devon's character is most widely known for setting fire to his possessions (and himself) during his first year at Hogwarts. He appears less frequently in the later films, usually onscreen only in groups such as Dumbledore’s Army, Hagrid’s Magical Creature’s class, and at the disastrous World Cup in the fourth movie.

Murray hasn't spent too much time in the limelight since the end of the series. He's only had a few minor acting credits since his time as Seamus.

Josh Herdman/Gregory Goyle (Then)

Josh Herdman/Gregory Goyle (Then)

As one of Malfoy’s closest chums throughout the series, Herdman's character never gained much favor with the audience as he was always on Malfoy’s side, trying to thwart Harry and the rest of the “good guys.”

While Herdman has had a few roles since the films, it seems as if he's found a new calling in life--he officially began his MMA career in 2016.

Hugh Mitchell/Colin Creevey (Then)

Who can forget the equally endearing and annoying Colin Creevey? Hugh's character was most prominent in The Chamber of Secrets, always pestering Harry with a camera around his neck.

Mitchell has had a few small roles since his time as playing Colin, but Harry Potter is definitely the biggest name on his resume. Why mess with success?

Harry Melling/Dudley Dursley (Then)

Harry Melling/Dudley Dursley (Then)

“Ickle Diddykins" was the spoiled brat cousin who constantly tormented and abused Harry for the better part of his childhood. He made an appearance in 5 of the 8 films.

Since his appearances as Dudley, Melling has lost so much weight that he's almost unrecognizable! But his new look hasn't stopped him from continuing in the acting world--most recently he appeared on the 2020 Netflix series, The Queen's Gambit

Jamie Waylett/Vincent Crabbe (Then)

Jamie Waylett/Vincent Crabbe (Then)

Crabbe (played by Jamie Waylett) barely ever uttered a word during the movies, but his facial expressions alone made it very clear that he wasn’t a fan of Harry, Ron, and Hermione. He appeared in six of the eight films.

It seems Waylett's character's bad attitude carried over into the real world. Waylett was sentenced to two years for participating in the 2011 England riots, as well as possession of marijuana.

Chris Rankin/Percy Weasley (Then)

Chris Rankin/Percy Weasley (Then)

Chirs Rankin didn't have the most popular character, and therefore hasn't garnered our love. It was just really hard to root for someone as condescending as Percy Weasley!

Rankin has appeared in front of the camera a few times since the films, including as the Scarecrow in The Wizard of Oz. But now it appears that he also works behind the scenes in film production.

Jessie Cave/Lavender Brown (Then)

Jessie Cave/Lavender Brown (Then)

Jessie Cave got to play the slightly crazy love interest of Ron in the Half-Blood Prince. Fun fact--Lavender Brown has a small, nonspeaking part in the third film, but she is portrayed by a different actress.

Cave has been working on TV and in movies very regularly since saying goodbye to Lavender. And she even has a book of cartoons published too!

Eleanor Columbus/Susan Bones (Then)

Eleanor played a relatively minor character, Susan, in Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Stone. She had an appearance in the second film as well, but that was the last we heard of her in the Harry Potter universe.

Columbus doesn't have many acting credits to her name, but that doesn't mean she hasn't been busy post-Harry Potter. Instead, it seems like she's spend most of her time on the other side of the camera as a producer.

Edward Randell/Justin Finch-Fletchley (Then)

Edward Randell/Justin Finch-Fletchley (Then)

Edward Randell played Justin Finch-Fletchley, who was everyone's least favorite Hufflepuff. While Fletchley is featured throughout the books, he only makes an on-screen appearance in the second film.

It seems like acting wasn't Randell's true calling--Harry Potter is his one and only acting credit. However, he does work as a freelance journalist and a musician now.

Daniel Radcliffe/Harry Potter (Then)

Who was this guy again? Oh that's right, he was the star. Radcliffe became the star of the Harry Potter film series in 2001, and appeared in all eight of the franchise's main films.

After becoming the most recognizable young person in Hollywood, Radcliffe obviously had no trouble finding work post-Harry Potter. He's been no stranger on film, on TV, or on the stage.

Emma Watson/Hermione Granger (Then)

Emma Watson/Hermione Granger (Then)

Emma Watson made her professional movie debut as Harry's know-it-all friend, Hermione, in the original film. Her smarts may have been obnoxious sometimes, but she definitely got them out of trouble more than a few times!

Watson has appeared in several movies since her time on Harry Potter, but she's been keeping herself busy in other ways. She also graduated Brown University with an English degree in 2014.

Bonnie Wright/Ginny Weasley (Then)

Bonnie Wright did not have a huge role as Ginny Weasley in the first Harry Potter film, but her role continued to grow as the series progressed. She appeared as Ginny in all eight films.

Wright has taken more acting jobs since the films, as well as some modelling work. However, her strangest credit has to be as a voice actor on an episode of King of the Hill

Tom Felton/Draco Malfoy (Then)

Everyone hated Tom Felton's role in the Harry Potter series. But considering that he was playing main antagonist Draco Malfoy, he was probably a-ok with all the animosity.

Felton had an acting career before his Harry Potter success, which he has continued after the end of the films. He also released several albums as a musician!

Evanna Lynch/Luna Lovegood (Then)

Luna Lovegood might not have been the brightest bulb in the bunch, but the role was memorable nonetheless and was immortalized by Irish actress Evanna Lynch. Despite rumors about correspondence with J.K. Rowling, Lynch won the role in an open audition.

Lynch has had several roles since being cast as Luna. However, it appears she spends much of her time on charity work and activism these days.
